UUGGHHH!!!!
I am very close to getting the flash arrows in Shadow of the Colossus. The only thing standing in my way is #6(the one w/ the beard). I realy want those arrows. Can somebody please tell me the quickest way to kick his big fat bearded butt? Banghead

If all else fails, I may get myself a GameShark. I would prefer to earn the arrows instead of using a cheat code.

Are you playing on Normal or Hard mode?

I beat the Colossus time trials (Normal mode) #1~11 and #14 (#7 was by far my easiest, and #11 my toughest).

In Hard mode, one hint that will help you reach the colossus's extra weak point is that when he kneels down to search for you, you can jump directly onto the fur on his hands, though climbinb up his arm may or may not be a timesaver. And don't forget that if you toggle the R button, you can descend down his back faster than by simply climbing down. Once at his weak points you just have to hit as hard as you can as fast as you can; learn the colossus's movements and ready a blow right as he calms down.

I'm in normal mode. My quickest time was 3:34. A mere 4 sec too long. I can't seem to do it again though, no matter how many times I try.

Another thing you have to take into account is the time it takes to actually get onto the colossus. I find that for a lot of them that seems to take about a minute or so (though I'd have to look up my record for #6 again).

Basically you just run like hell towards the far end of the dungeon, climbing over the walls as quickly as you can and in as much of a straight line as you can. After that it's an easy matter to climb on and then bring him down (at least without the time limit). Go for the head first -- try to time your strike's between the colossus's movements so you can maximize the blows. Also, since getting thrown around eats time, you can also consider jumping back to his shoulders as he starts to lean his head forward, that will eat up a little bit of strike time but save you the time of having to recover from it later.

Then, for getting to the one on his torso, remember that running across a level section is faster than climbing across, and falling is faster than climbing down. Not much help I can give here except that you have to minimize how often your character gets whipped around while climbing on the colossus.

The good news is I beat him. The bad news is the flash arrows must be a hard mode prize. Oh well, I'll just have to start a hard mode file.
Thanks for your help. My new record is 3:06:83! W00t!

I hear that Hard mode gets all the fun prizes.

Bah, I bought this game ages ago and I still can't beat the one in the arena. You know, the one who shoots out beams of light at you.

I'll have to pick it up again one day.

The wall climbing one right? He's tough one. The best method I found was to shoot him from the third or fourth floor. As soon as he turns toward the wall, head for the nearest stairway. Go down to the bottom level but not out to the center, just onto the stairs that lead out there. Draw your bow while holding L1 to quickly aim at the Colossi. Shoot two of his legs to make him fall to the ground,(you can reliese L1 if you need to). Climb onto his belly as fast as possible. He has two spots, one between his front legs and the other between his hind legs. Pick a spot and use charged stabs to do some damage. When he flips over, make a run for the stairs. From there just repeat the process till you kill him. Hope this helps. Wink

Now here is something really interesting, when the lizard if climbing on the wall, you can jump and cling onto the grates and -- if your positioning is right -- actually strike its weak points through the grate! I wonder if you can kill it doing that....

Another interesting thing: It is possible to kill colossus #3 without breaking the armor on its right arm. I did it, and on Hard mode too. Took about half an hour, not counting deaths and having to restart.

I never thought of that. But I would have two complants about that.
1. You would be vulnerable to his poisonous gas.
2. Not a good method to get used to if you want to challange time trial.

Actually, if you play your cards right, you'd keep him roaming about on the wall, never able to find you.

You have to stand on the plate and wait for him to take a swing at you. Make sure you get out of the way before he hits the plate though. His "braclet" on his sword arm should break. Then you get him to swing at the dirt. When the sword gets stuck, run up it towards the arm and start climbing his arm. When you get to the elbow, you have to go around to the back. You can then take a rest on whats left of the braclet to regain your strength meter. (He has 2 weak points, one on his stomach, and the other on his head. I usualy go for the stomach first.) Once your ready to move on, climb the rest of the way up his arm and across his sholderblade. Make your way down his back till you're standing on his belt. Go around the front start stabing untill the mark goes away. Now for the tricky part. If your timing is right, you can jump from the belt back to the arm and climb up to the head. (If you miss, just get him to hit the dirt again.) Once on the head be ready to hang on and stab when the time comes.

If you want a real challenge, it is possible to beat the 3rd Colussus without first breaking his armband off. When you're standing on his sword, there's this motion he does where he raises his arm and then suddenly lowers it; if you do a running jump right at that moment you can land atop the armguard and continue on from there.

I know, I did it, and on Hard mode, too. Died about a gazillion times trying though.
