Does anyone else notice how there seem to be more and more people on the site either tracing, copying, or straight-up stealing pictures lately?

Is there any way to stop this? It's pretty irritating....... Sad

If you paste your name all over the picture or something (especially where if they erase it, it will be very, very obvious they ripped it off), it makes it easier to tell?

I hate people who steal artwork and then turn around and have the gall to claim it as theirs and whine that they can "take requests". Seriously. They need to be shot or at least smacked around a bit. *growl*

Sad Sadly, I think it is hard to stop this dishonesty. No one can really stop another from stealing pics from other sites or even scan pics from manga and claim them as their own. Even if they are banned from the site, they can still log in as another pseudonym and then, the cycle of copying and stealing continues. I think, the thing they do not understand is how hard it is to draw a pic. Once they've started picking up their own pens, draw their own pics and get them down on the web, they would really appreciate the respect others give by not taking their pics without permission.

Sincerely, if anyone who had once stolen a pic and is reading this right now, I really wish you would visit this website: Online Fanarts Protection . For anyone who strongly disagree with the act of stealing or using others' art for their own credit, I would really hope you could link this to your own fanart site, so that all who visit your site can at least be guilty if they ever steal your art. It is about online fanart protection, set up by some Japs. They do know how to reason. Rolling eyes

There's really nothing that can be done besides emailing Denis (in the case of this site) on an individual basis with the pic that was submitted and the original. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), it's usually only the ones stealing pictures to cause trouble that sign up with a new account such as the various vulgar usernames one person continued to sign up with. People who are stealing for an ego boost tend to go away once banned. Or at least, they don't post obvious rips for quite awhile. But please please please email Denis with the proof instead of posting it on the board (everyone). Some "artists" notice and delete the pictures before Denis can get to them (which may solve the immediate problem, but the user will probably post again later). There will always be stupid people. Watermarks for everyone... Grr!

there have been a few times where I've seen painfully obvious rip-offs, but I didn't know who to e-mail.

Do you have Denis's e-mail address? I'm not sure where to look

thanks! Very Happy

Note, although I read all email, stolen picture reports may not get delt with any time soon. I consider them low priority and I am busy.

Heh, though you wouldn't have to deal with them if you had me do it. I did offer, ya know, after you were too busy yadda yadda yadda. Just makin' life easier. Rolling eyes Not that they'd still get dealt with anytime soon, but it'd take some clutter out of your inbox. (see, I am useful for something, even if Kate wears the pants in the chatroom...usually)

copying a pic is all good how else can you expect to learn new styles as long as the didn't trace or just steal the pic you gives and s**t if they drew it even if it coped they deserve props i tack body positions all the time i change the pic and add my own stuff to it but i tack body positions it's all good why do you think it's called fanart

#1. Contact Denis at the email address I gave above with a link to the picture and to your proof, but like he said, it'll take him awhile to fix it.

#2. We're not talking about "copying" a picture. If that was the case, 75% of my stuff would be gone (though that's from real pictures, not drawings, which is slightly different, but not much). We're talking about reporting someone who entirely copied an existing work, whether they drew it themselves or not. You can be "inspired" by it and take the pose or a certain hairstyle, but blatantly reproducing the image and posting it online is ridiculous. That's someone else's hard work they put into creating that. If someone wants to copy/trace a picture for practice, that's fine, but in my opinion it should be left in a sketchbook and kept off the internet/other public areas. Most copied pictures on FAC are people posting the actual original and claiming they drew it. In which case, I have no respect for them at all. If you copied a picture and gave the source, asking for help or whatever, I can understand that, but claiming it was your idea or that you drew it (in the case of completely stolen pictures) I can't.

Wasn't there a thread somewhat like this on the old board?

Fanart is not always copying the pose, the character, and the entire picture. You'll find that many people will apply their own style, their own composition, etc - the only thing they borrow are the characters. Yes, it's good to copy the picture to get some practice. However, you can't keep doing that forever, as you won't improve.

I'll say this again: there's no excuse for stealing/plagerism (sp). Period. And, I repeat: such people need to be shot or preferable beaten many times. ~_~;

Now, I'll admit that I didn't understand even half of what you wrote. Word of
advice: some punctuation might help.

I believe there was a thread for this, but it's good to get this one up on the board.

Stealing a actual picture done by sombody else is not permitted here (downloading or scanning sombody's pic and uploading it as your own).

I dont really have a problem with reproducing an official picture, I consider that part of fanart (but not the only part). Reproducing another peice of fanart or using another (fan)artist's origional character should not be done without permission form that artist and acknowledgment of the source. Obtaining permission for professional stuff isn't really realistic.

I do agree with "fanart is not always copying the pose, the character, and the entire picture", it can be originoal pictures of existing characters, maybe even originoal characters (Like AngelRaye's senshi children) tho that kinda stuff is pushing it a bit for qualification as fanart.

There is little I can do about all this. I can sometimes ban the users, but not all users are that easy to ban.

I do what I can when I have time. But due to the lack of options the best option is to just ignore it. Those looking for prase will leave with lack of good comments, those who are trolls will get bored and leave if they receive no flames.

Haha, yea... the chat. You know Fallen and I would be glad to help, Denis. Fallen more than me probably since I'm so lazy... but the offer is always open. You can send the people who want to complain about someone in the chat or someone acting inappropriately to me, if you like. Just tell them my email and my aim (which I have to change because it is now Katehumpstrees) and have them complain to me. That should take a little weight off of your shoulders. If you need anything from me or Fallen (you know we loooove you) just ask.
