Go ahead. I dare you. And I want solid proof, not mild conjecture. Something tangible that can actually hold water if held up for scrutiny.
You feel lucky, punk? Do ya? Go on.
See if you can. _________________

BloodSugarSexMagik
Their funk stuff was fun, and their cover of "Higher Ground" is great. I always loved "Fight Like A Brave" too. |

This is mild conjecture. I said I would have none of it, therefore I do not accept this. Here, you can have it back. _________________

The Rolling Stones
Cream
Jefferson Airplane
Simon and Garfunkel
The Byrds
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Led Zeppelin
The Ronettes
Black Sabbath
The Smiths
The Clash
etc etc etc
ALL better than the Red Hot Chili Peppers. _________________ |

And very debatable. Influence is great, yes, but as far as music goes, I would pick RHCP over Sabbath and Zeppelin. Butler is a good bassist, but Flea is better. I prefer Kiedis's voice WAY over Ozzy's and Zeppelin in general is just overrated to me. Good band, but not the best guitarist ever, not the best drummer ever, and Plants voice is not appealing to me. John Paul Jones got hardly any credit, and he was arguably the most talented and most attention deserving member.
Kiedis is a good vocalist, and his lyrics are quirky and often very well put. Frusciante is a good guitarist, and is very flexible in all styles of music. Flea is a great bassist. Granted not the best, but he's good with his fingers. Very fast and accurate. Their drummer ain't nothin' special, but they don't need him to be.
Their early stuff is either pure funk or funk/heavy rock and they really sort of introduced funk rock an a genre. I would have ranked them up in that list for that and for them being a superior band, in my mind, to some of those bands listed. |

A few things I gotta disagree with. First off, Anthony, while he is a good singer, uses the same three notes (or so) for almost everysong. Hes not that talented a singer, he can just do werid shit with his voice. Drummers are VERY important to music, especally live. If your drummer bites balls, it drags down the sound of all the other music. |

If that's your viewpoint on Kiedis's voice, then you gotta respect his lyrics, like "Under the Bridge", "Venice Queen", and "Slow Cheetah". Their earlier stuff where he takes a more Native American stance on things, like "Johnny Kick A Hole in the Sky" have good messages, and he can write serious and deep stuff when he needs to.
Their drummer is way more efficient live, and I agree. Drummers gotta perform to the max. Consistency is also nice, though, and what their drummer doesn't perform technique-wise, he makes up for in consistency. |

I agree on the lyrics. And I felt that the drummer out did himself this time, though not par with Grohl or the Melvins drummer (who I feel is one of the best drummers ever. |

I meant this within their genre and their spot in time.... not all of rock history with rock's different branches... _________________

I have a good reason why they're not the best band of all time: every song on Stadium Arcadium sounds the same. I bought it and was really disappointed. _________________ 14 is forever. |

You fail at life.
And if Led Zep is overrated, RHCP is our Led Zeppelin. How fucking pathetic is that. Will's genuine fandom aside, RHCP is by far the band most clinged to by idiots who only know enough to realize that 99% of current new mainstream artists suck balls and RHCP suck less. Like people who go on and on about Hendrix being the best guitarist ever when the only people they can compare him to are Cobain, the nu metal guys, and so on.
Besides, such topics are always nothing more than lame verbal wanking unless clear points of comparison are established. If you want to know why RHCP aren't the best, you have to first establish the reasons they are.
...This is such an old never-gonna-be-resolved topic, though, and Will really just wanted a reason to flaunt his man crush on RHCP. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

You'll hate me for this.
I don't think nu-metal sucks as a genre. I will say that you will find extremely talented drummers, technically proficient guitarists and bassists, and vocalists with good range and some good lyrics, if you delve deep enough.
For example, Deftones have excellent musicianship. Chi Cheng is a good bassist, the guitar hooks are catchy, and the drumming is powerful. "My Own Summer" displays this quite well, I think.
From the musician's standpoint, nu-metal has some interesting things going for it. The most amazing is the stuff that can keep perfect time/tempo and change everything PERFECTLY. This is why I think System of a Down suck ass, and why Tool and Mudvayne should own the market.
If RHCP is the Zeppelin of the time, then Tool is the Pink Floyd.
Linkin Park? Granted, nothing spectacular except Bennington's vocal range. Other stuff? Much better. Chevelle, Tool, Mudvayne, Number One Contender, Souls Harbor, Deftones, etc. They all have exceptional talent.
Red Hot Chili Peppers have the stuff I love. Funky basslines, great guitar, and steady pulsing drums. Kiedis's voice may not change that often, if ever, but he can give some exceptional lyrics. "Under the Bridge" is a lyrical masterpiece, as it is a guitarists dream to play. Nevermind the simplicity, it just sounds good. |
