My parents finally decided that if I screw myself over, then that's the way it'll be. No longer shall I be punished through restrictions for poor grades, but they shall allow me to fail.
I think it's possibly one of the brightest ideas ever. After all, it's your education for your life, and they can't hold your hand forever. They can only lead you so far.
After starting a job at Outback Steakhouse, I have more responsibility, and along with this, possibly a new work ethic when it comes to school. I'm not learning and succeeding to satisfy them anymore, but to mold myself into who I need to be in order to survive in society.
It's sort of weird to me that I've actually been more into my studies as of late, compared to the times when they breathed down my neck.
So maybe it's just me, but I think this will work for the better.
Any comments? |

I hope you never get out of the tertiary job sector. lolz, just kidding.
My parents started caring less long time ago, they never really breathed down my neck and such, and I never studied for them, just myself. I don't regularly give my parents my report card anymore... even the one last semester which I had a pretty good average, 88 percent. I don't think it makes any difference to them.
yeah, it's a good idea, but only when the person's independent in the first place. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Now do what I did. Throw a four point, AP, and a guaranteed free ride to a few good unis down the art school toilet.
I'm just really good at school. Go figure. I don't think I've studied a day in my life or spent more than a half hour on an essay.
Kudos on the freedom from parental micromanagement. Now don't fuck up. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

People need a balance between school and free time. A job is a good way to earn some extra coin, plus it will make you look like less of a deadbeat to your friends. |

It works for some people, but it doesn't work for everyone. Some people feel pressured to succeed, so they do less well. Other people need it because they don't have enough discipline. But I guess the safest zone is where you don't have people breathing down your neck, but they'll still care if you fail. If you have obtained freedom, then don't abuse it. You can loose it all quite easily by simply being lazy. |

Nah, Flea's almost legal, if not already. Aren't you? Then you just risk losing parental financing. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I turn 17 in 16 days. My girlfriend is legal, but not I. I call her a child molester.
She says I like it. I do.
As far as the financing goes, if I can successfully employ my efforts to acheive grades that allow me to graduate, get accepted into college, and maybe even get a scholarship for jazz band/marching band, they'll continue to finance my education.
If I make no effort and prove, essentially, that I could care less whether I succeed or live on the streets, the support is gone.
Fortunately, I have the drive to not condemn myself to living in the streets. I am, however, condemning myself to low wages and little respect should I succeed in my endeavors. Teachers' wages suck. |

Teacher's wages are better in Japan because they treat education more seriously.
However, that also implies that you have to learn Japanese as well, and get called a dumb foreigner. But in comparison to other foreigners like tourists, you'll still get treated better, simply because you're a teacher. |

As much as I'd love the extra money, I'm not willing to take the time to learn Japanese.
Nor am I a fan of the insane metro areas. They can keep Tokyo. I'm content with Charleston, S.C. |
