the martial arts interest!!!

Who else besides me has REAL interest in the martial arts , as in "I want to be the kick boxing champion of the world", not like "oh yeah naruto does martial arts so they're cool.
I'd like to start a nice little conversation on martial arts. so please , RESPOND!!

I don't personally have an interest in martial arts, but many of my friends do. I have a friend who took Tae Kwon Do and Karate, another who took Judo, one who takes Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do, one who's father teaches Jiu Jitsu...

Though I've never been interested in taking it for some reason. I guess it's because I never found an interest for any type of fighting or sparring as a kid.

I mean i know that this is a fanart site but don't tell me that you all just like to watch all of these animes of people using all of this kung fu and stuff but you never gave it a go yourself! martial arts are the greatest! i mean c'mon who wouldn't like to be able to knock some big guy out with your foot!?

At home, I am rather disenchanted with what I see in modern swordsman, Many of them seem to be under the impression it's a competitive sport. There are only a few schools left that teach the values and discipline required to weild the weapon correctly.

Ah, I used to take Tae Kwon Do for exercise and self-defense but the teachers paid no attention to me and it took about 8 months for me to get to yellow belt so soon after I quit because sparring was terrible, everyone advanced too fast, and I was just too low in stamina to get very far.

I like to watch and appreciate the martial arts but I take no part in it anymore after my miserable experiances. I'm just not cut out for it. :3

I agree with you battou, have you ever looked into the dvds that they sale on martial arts sites, though the majority of the swordsmanship videos will be sport oriented, there ARE still some good traditional ones. some help is better than none.
also what would you do in a street fight? it would be very unlikely for you to have a sword with you.

i'm sorry to hear about your bad tae kwon do experience, but i'm glad that you still like the MA's .

I tend to look more towards the books.

as far as a street fight goes, I don't get envolved unless I have to and when I have to I carry I four D Mag light every ware, always have.

it's kinda funny that you practice kendo and stuff "bro" yet you still want to use weapons against unarmed guys. isn't that violating some code or something, even if they are insane jerk loser faces.

lol, A 4D Mag light is the same Flashlight the Police department carries.

Why Do I practice Iaido, I am not going to anser that one, it's personal

as far as using weapons on unarmed people, I carry the flashlight simply because I never know what people have on them, never the less the last person who wanted to start a fight with me thought better of it when I turned the light on and shined it in his face. It's more of a deturrent really but I would have no problems pitting it against bats and sledge hammers (witch have been used by attackers in this little wanna-be city).

In about a year I want to start taking either kickboxing or Jujitsu. A combination of both if possible.

I used to think about taking kendo or some such sword classes, but I was like 14-15, and even then I knew it wasn't a really useful thing to know. Unless you can manage to get around in public with a katana, taking kendo classes isn't practical at all.

Jujitsu/Judo is good for you kids. I doubt many of you have the strength to actually be effective in a real fight using strikes, so a style that uses an opponent's strength to your advantage would be more beneficial. Joint locks and such.

Taikwondo fighters have been pretty fucking useless. It's such a popular style, so I've seen a couple decently ranked Taikwondo guys fight before. The first time was in Mexico, my cousin's friend knocked out some black belt in a few seconds. Other time it was me and some loud mouth kid, but I had the grace to make it like a friendly shuffle to save him face.

You have to be really good at Taikwondo to be effective for real. Fuck it. Better to dedicate time to something more useful than a bunch of high kicks. Karate is good, learn that. Too bad so many karate schools are white bread as fuck. 7 year olds should not be black belts.

I think its better to be good at math.

Not quite, what it boils down to is this. My life was destroyed by an accusation and I had notions of retaliation. I chose a sword and began practicing, I didn't want to kill them but mearly destroy their lives. The more I practiced, the more I began to wonder if I even had the right to hold the weapon. This led to research, the answer was NO. So I looked more into the values and discipline required to weild the weapon correctly and pulled my self out of the darkest patch of my life with out hurting a single person.

The most important thing I have learnd is this, Fighting is a matter of life and death. The Martial arts are for defence of ones life, not to take the lives of others meaninglessy.
