I've played the 360 multiple times with my friends and the PS3 several times at the kiosk. Despite being a Nintendo fan, even I can admit those graphics were pretty awesome. Everything was so detailed and clean. But (I don't know how many IF any of you guys have felt this way) it almost gave me a scared sort of feeling. You know? The feeling like when you got that brand new DS Lite or PSP and you didn't want to smudge it. Like you were somehow harming it's soul by brandishing your finger prints on it... o.o

Anyway, that feeling kept me from becoming immersed in any of the games. I found, however, that I did not get that feeling at all from playing Wii. The graphics, of course, are less exuberant, and far more simple and familiar to the last-gen. At the same time, I get the feeling that they are more practical and make the gamer feel more comfortable.

Did anyone else feel like that or is it just me?

(BTW: I do realize that those smudgeaphobia you have for DS Lite begins to fade after awhile, so I expect it would be the same with 360 and PS3's graphics. If you have one tell me your opinions.) Wink Wink

Graphical realism = blah. It's catering to the widest market share, the lowest common denominator of gaming. Almost EVERYBODY gets impressed by fancy graphics; unfortunately, when a game sets such a high standard for textures & lighting, if they don't uphold a similarly high standard for character designs and (more importantly) animations, you start noticing the parts that don't "mesh", and it detracts from the experience.

graphics are more attractive. but i am more into the story aspect of a game.

this doesn't mean a game with good graphics wont have a good story, or good animation or good character designs.

game play is very important to. for example; Superman the game has some nice graphics for this type of game. but the animation is too ps2 (lol) and the character designs are.... well anyway. But the game play is so awesome. It makes it fun to just play it. Even tho the story might be terrible and too cartoonish. It's still fun. I play it and can have a good time. No matter the graphics, designs, animations or story.

also, if a game isn't in with the latest technology in it's graphics... doesn't mean it's superior..........................

So how's about those sprite games with incredibly detailed character art, captivating story and cool characters?

I don't think anyone really read my whole post. =_=

I was never saying graphics make the game or anything even to that effect. >.>
I was asking does all this HD graphic stuff seen on the PS3/360 make you as uncomfortable as it make me?

Wii Sports. The graphics are pretty simplistic, but the control scheme . . . you really have to make sure there isn't anyone nearby when you wind up that bowling throw. Christmas day I knocked over my sister's cup of apple cider, while she was holding it. Weird, in a kinda sorta funny way.

And you'd be retarded not to. Rolling Eyes

However, you completely missed my point. I'm trying to find out what people feel when they first start high-definition gameplay (720p, 1080p) compared to when they first start playing Wii's enhanced-definition (480p). Reading the topic post helps.

@Strata: I know. Also gotta watch out for those low-slung cielings. BTW, you ordered any of those new straps yet?

We're fortunate enough to not have suffered Flying Remote Syndrome.

lol, how true is this? I remember freaking out when I got some mere surface scratches on my PSP. I don't think it's so much a "high tech" sort of thing that makes me freak out, though. More of just the fact that it's something really expensive and new. Kinda like when I buy dvds; I go off the wall when I find the first scratch on them (even if they're really small and unnoticeable). o_o

As for the new gen consoles... I haven't touched any of them, but I've seen the demos in stores and malls, and damn do I ever want to try them. ;__; I don't really get awed by them in the sort of way you're describing it... more like a "holy shit this is cool looking I must touch it" sort of awe for me. 8D; When I get a PS3, the first thing I'm going to do is caress it, and this is totally not creepy at all. 8D;

In the end, though, I can usually get immersed in any game so long as it has a good story and character development. Graphics aren't a big deal for me. :9 I guess it's because I don't experience "smudgeaphobia" like you do... XD;
