Avatars

I've been kind of wondering this for a while now...

I know of lot of people online have avatars - you know, little personal characters (Artist Characters) that represent them in their pictures and stories.

So here's my question: Are your avatars really you, or are they simply what you want to be?

My own character, Kiff, is a charicature of me, basically. She's got all my flaws (weak right leg, fear of pain, inability to run for any distance), but also has my ambition to fly. Kiff [i]loves[/i] to fly. Well, glide, in her case. Kittybirgs can't fly on their own.

But I know a few people whose avvies are godlike representations - they have minor semblance, but end up being flat and featureless, reading more like a Mary Sue than anything else.

So again, are your characters you, or not?

I guess my avvie does represent me. I'm normally quiet and cautious, yet occasionally I say/do stupid stuff that causes the whole place to go *SNAP* --and that's why I need the helmet. :)

And BTW, Kiffie, ever consider using one of your Kiff drawings as an avvie? She could end up looking something like . . . .

I must be bored, so I screencapped them and resized them to 80 pixels wide like is set on the other board. I figure you wouldn't mind. Wink

there was a thread sorta like this before "whats your avatar" only I gotta agree with Silver on this one...que?

I have a character that looks like me and has sorta my old proffession and even my nickname "DaBear" but its not my avatar! my avatar is my char ToniBo...and Im not a chick. she just the star of my comic and most people know me from her.

Perhaps I should explain something - avatars in a non-forum enviorment (and sometimes in forums that lack the capability to load pictures) mean the character you use to represent YOU.

Kiff (in the pics provided by Strata) is my avatar.

Almost (but not quite) like a muse, eh? ;)

I don't consider myself as having any avvies in the stories I write. Well, there's one story I wrote that I called Never Again, the main character was a commander named James (aka Jim, but only his closest friends are allowed to call him that) and he's the closest thing I've had to an avvie. I've yet to actually finish the story though :huh:

Heh, the closest thing i've had to an avi was in Knights of the Old Rebublic. One of the faces you can choose for your character actually kind of looks like me. I named him Sael Dantil. So that would be my avi. ^_^

oh! now i understand! sorry, im a bit stupid sometimes.

i have tons of original characters from stories and such, but none of them really represent myself. i don't think i have an avatar.. i don't come up with characters to represent me, i just..am me i guess. :wacko:

.....funny thing is with my charactors.....well any charactor of mine....... they always have a part of me in them.... if you know wat i mean.. *noddes*......i mean, each charactor i make up.......... either a part of the way they look or just simply a part of their personality..... they are like me...... only like one thing....or all my charactors would be the same.....*laughs*...... but i mean, Imagine, my charactor......she has the same colour hair as me.... and is my mascot really..... she is wat i wonna be .....or am....*smiles*

hmm... well usually any characters i think of in a story i make up are designed to be much cooler than me and are able to do things i wish i could do. but they don't really represent me, tho some may share similarities with my tastes/interests

however, there is one character that was actually made up by my cousin for a story she wrote, who was supposed to be based on me. what was awesome is that she is me, but soooo much cooler than i actually am. she has blue hair and an irish accent and cool water powers and is in shape (gasp!), which are things i wouldn't mind having. i like drawing her from time to time, and i guess in a way she represents things i wish i could or the kind of person i wish i could be. my cousin stopped writing the story a while ago and never finished it, so i don't even know what happens to the character in the end...

Short attention span? Maybe you missed KFelidae describing that this thread is for [i]picture/story avatars[/i] and not the little images ("avvies", for short) under your username. Avatars in this context are representations of [b]you[/b] in your own stories or drawings.

oh you mean like online or artist alias's yeah i have one CheshireGoddess derr lol i just kind of made her up. She does actually look just like me only in anime form with cat ears, of course i don't really dress like her. She is basically my pissing ranting side. Very Happy
