What she said isn't half as bad as HAHA21 last year, and even then I thought he had tenderness of a bowl of kittens.

I don't like this decreasing threshold of sensitivity in the site. Everybody thinks everything is offensive when they first get criticisms of any kind. These people will get used to them. Grow up.
True, thats why I post pictures on gaia and such, I know I'll actually be criticised, where on here only Raven, hateful and STHA would crit me

Conversely, I don't like this "acid test" view of criticism either, where if you can't take the heat then get off the site.

Obviously, it takes a lot of time and practice for any artist to improve their skills, and the ability to withstand criticism is a skill just the same.

True criticism or otherwise, it's hardly constructive if someone gets their kicks off of putting other users down on a persistent or daily basis.

To be quite honest, I don't think I'm very mean until they get mad at me after the first post, then I tell them to shut the hell up. I don't think I've told anyone to get off the website though(with one exception)

In that case, remember it takes two to pick a fight. If they find the first comment offensive, don't give them a second one to take offense at.

Better to let them down than art college admission laughing at their face.

Hm... I suppose you ARE right, but it is hard not to question them when all that they do is call me a jerk and then be quiet

Lol, I read through those, and they made me laugh, but its sad 'cause thats really what users on this website are really like.

I am thankful that as a middleschooler I am past that manga stage, and it only lasted a month or two.
If somone told me my drawings looked like manga, I think I would slap them.

An art college is more likely to send them a form-letter rejection notice.

Well, Falconlobo obviously has found Bent's comment offensive.

It would be nice if you would stop commenting to her and just move on. Sad

Agreed. Benk, you may want to use the answer to this question as a rule of thumb:
How is the "giver" supposed to know that?
When in doubt, assume that the person's ability to endure criticism is the same as their artistic skill level. In other words, if they don't have much skill in art as of yet, assume they won't stand for much criticism of it.

Being able to withstand criticism is a skill that must be learned too, but you can't "force" someone to learn it. If someone doesn't want a critique, then giving them one is not going to help them any. (We could use an option like dA has to specify this.)

But, maybe you'd like to give a hand in the "Critique panel" forum area?

I didn't know there was a critique panel, I rarely venture into the forums at all.

In fact, I came here to make a suggestion (Which I realized would actually be very hard for you guys to manage and I decided against it) when I saw this.
