It is? Convenient, but it still doesn't change that FAC profiles are not MySpace pages. You know users are just going to start adding little notes like "SCROLL DOWN TO TEH BOTTOM FOR MY UPDATEZ!!!!!".

When it comes to the [IMG] tag, most of FAC users either aren't mature enough to use it, or are mature enough to know better.

Yeah i noticed that too, but its not the fact that you have to look at less its that they all have to load up! Thats the problem with some of the dial-up users. No matter what kind of accelerator you've got it makes no difference. I agree that the ability to add images is a plus to the site becuase people love it, and limmiting the nuber of uses keeps us all happy, so until the age of dial-up completely falls off the face of the planet thats about our only choice.

YEAH. It needs to be banned immediately. Some immature users are probably gonna throw temper fits about this, though. But who cares? If they don't like it, then they can go to MySpace. Rolling Eyes

Has anyone given the text fields where you fill in personal bio. any thought?

No, I don't think it should be banned. Unfortunitely I don't think there would be any way restrict it very well either. There are some people who do use them responcibly, there is no reason to punish them. Giving only a few the right to have images in their profiles would get complaints form those who want them and can't have them. Going threw and removing the privilage from those who are abusing it is way to big a task. limmiting size would work but I have seen a couple of cases where a large image was well used, as well as the fact that most abuse comes from dozzens/hundreds of small images.

So other than limmiting size and number to somthing say, ten images no larger than 400X146 px or 200 kb, with out special permittion, I have nothing

That is what I was thinkin' to begin with. But, there are some people who think FAC is like MySpace. They need to grow up. FAC is NOT a blog.

But, I have another suggestion. Most of the images on people's profiles here on FAC have animated .gif images. I think we need to ban .gif images because they make pages longer to load. I think we need a limitation on what [i]types[/i] of images could be put on a profile.

I think we may also want to ban Bitmap images. If user want to place images on their profile, then they should convert them to .jpeg type.

I do agree with you there, I would not in the least mind seeing all those bs sparkling what have you images go the way of the dodo, and BMPs are huge and easy enough to convert to jpeg, even MS paint is capable of that so, yeah sendem. I read your post and it came off as a total ban suggestion. I just came back from two days off so I may have missed somthing.

I say ban .gif images because I'm tired of seeing dancing Narutos and glittering Sailor Moons. I'm also sick and tired of seeing those long glittering banners. They are so annoying.

Plus those little Gaia avatar chibis or whatever. They're pointless.

All it does is ruin the style of what a profile is supposed to be (i.e.: person info. in text, no images).

Plus, dial-up users like me get tired of having to wait 10 mins for some user's profile to load, which probably contains 1000+ animated .gif pictures.

I kinda agree with you, but at the same time, there are probably those who don't abuse them, and it's not fair to them.

Hmm....I wonder, would it be reasonable to ban images that are not made by the user, half of the stuff they take is probably copyrighted anyway right? And the problem is with all the junk people find by googleing for anime, so if you only allow pictures to be member made on profiles then that eliminates those who abuse the privilege immediately.

I like the look of it. It seems more organised to me (not that this isn't organised), and the new logo looks spiffy.

um if you make people get rid of profile pics cuse of copyrighted material

that's not right they would just use it as a profile pic

just one not many

and if they use one they made themselves

whose to say it would not be copyrighted

only oc's are copyrighted to the artist

everything else is copyrighted to an extent

then there is no fac

if you can't draw copyrighted characters even in your own style

then look at it that way

some people just chose one image for their profile pic

just cuse they love the character

not to use it in any other way

it's not like saying i drew this this is my character

nope not the way things are done

so why not just ban everything but oc's if copyrighted material is a problem

i'm being sracastic cuse then fac would be nothing but oc's and nobody wants that^^

No, that's not really what I meant. The copyrighted stuff was just on the side of everything else.

Pics just have to be made by the person who posts them, or used with permission of someone else, so say a friend could design you a pic or whatever.

AKA you can't clutter your profile with a million pictures of inu yasha you found off of google.

i don't have millions

i have one profile pic

and it's just one

i just chose it cuse i like it

not to use for anything and it's only one so that would be not fair if i had to give it up

and nobody on fac drew it so it's not a artist copyrighted thing

it's just an image i found online and it's just one so it's not a clutter issue

and why can't use we use an image not drawn by us

if it's only for the profile and not anything else if it's not drawn by anyone on fac

and it hurts no one i'm not stealling anything other sites allow it

i just copied and saved one image to use as a profile pic

not to say i drew it or use for anything but only as a profile pic

just cuse i like the character

unless everything on fac is meant to be dull and boring^^

cuse it's not a million images i use only one

and if you think that i use more than one then you have not viewd my profile page

you assume i use a million which i don't i use one and only one

and it's not Inu it's just one of Big Cheese again assuming it's not right to assume

if there was a limit then it would be better i agree to that but i'm not going to give up my only profile pic cuse someone assumes i use a million images

With all this fear of this turning into a new myspace, I'm afraid that once again, there will be a website where people believe that dA is their clip art gallery.
It must piss azurephre off that all of his pictures are all over the internet.

A revised suggestion for the IMG tag is to link it to a user's allowed permissions. In other words, instead of having to moderate/remove their profile image, we can just flick a switch, and suddenly their IMG tags don't work anymore.
