Gary wasn't cool. Give me the guy from Gold/Silver any day.
Unfortunately I think the Absol I taught Shadow Ball to was a female, aka while this means I can breed Absols up the wazoo, I'm also down a rare TM. Unless you know any compatible breeds which learn Shadow Ball as they level up....

That sucks : (
If it was male then you still might have had the chance to breed it to get something else with shadowball as an egg move.

PS: Yeah, I might pick up one of D/P, but I gotta at least see the Elite Four in Emerald first. My last save was right before Aqua awakens Kyogre, though I did play for a bit farther just to see what would happen. Right after Kyogre awakens and challenges Groudon right in the city of Sootopolis, I felt I simply had to complete this leg of the story before logging off. Forget about training or catching wild Pokémon, there were two legendaries making hell out of a city and this was the first time in a Pokémon game where I felt personally obligated to stop them in some way before doing anything else, saving my game and logging off was simply not an option.
Realistically speaking if you go by tpes and such that battle would have been over in seconds. Kyogre would have totaled Groudon.

What. Blasphemy. Gary was the shit.

Though the GS guy was pretty damn cool too, just because he was an actual criminal, more or less.

And he had fucking awesome red hair. Yes.

Still playing Emerald. On and off, anyway. Starting to get distracted by some other games. Heh. Blah;

so yah. 3 badges, team: Skarmory, Aron, Combusken, Gyarados, Kirlia, and Zigzagoon (for his awesome pick up ability, yes!) Fighting Flannery now... which kinda blows since my team's muscle has a weakness to fire. Blah;

In the Pokemon Special manga the rival from GS was actually Giovanni's (team rocket leader's) son. AND in FireRed some of the rocket guys reference to the Boss's red haired son 8D
Still playing Emerald.
Last I played Emerald, I was trying to hunt down a . . . what are those fish called again, Feebas? I must've fished darn near every square on the lower half of that river.

Yeah, the rival in GS was kinda cool. I kinda liked how he started to realize he'd never beat you in pokébattle....

As for items, Pokémon isn't balanced like other RPG's. In other RPG's, the enemy always has more HP than you, and the bosses flat out will kill you in three turns (or less) unless you have a stockpile of Cure spells or Items.

Whereas Pokémon doesn't have that staple Cure spell, very few pokémon are able to heal at all by themselves so it's Items or bust. (I kinda wish Pokémon had a Regen like ability, y'know?) Plus, the foes fight according to the exact same rules you do, so it's not the same as another RPG. Wild pokémon are generally at lower levels to tilt the field in your favor, same for most opposing Trainers... Gym Leaders are the bosses due to higher levels, stronger breeds and custom movesets.

The simplicity of the statistics system is kinda neat too. If you think about it, all other factors the same two pokémon fighting each other will fare precisely the same at Lv.50 as they do at Lv.5. And the effect of a level discrepancy is a quadratic ratio, so all other factors the same a Lv.10 pokémon can match not just two, but four Lv.5 pokémon.

And with being able to breed them and pass down moves from one generation to the next, baby pokémon can be just as fearsome. That's one thing you for certain couldn't say for the first generation....

I can think of Ingrain from r/s and Aqua Ring from d/p. And the Leftovers hold item. And leech Seed.

I showed you, Strata. I'm not afraid of your righteous mod powers.

Feebas are as damned elusive as a certain Pimpernel. FAQ's state that Feebases can be found on precisely six squares of the entire river (which are, of course, randomly placed). They're supposed to be quite common where they do appear, but good luck trying to find where that is. I have yet to.
I can think of Ingrain from r/s and Aqua Ring from d/p. And the Leftovers hold item. And leech Seed.
Right. There's also the Heal Bell, and Eevee's three main evolutions absorb matching-Type attacks as HP. But I don't necessarily mean in-battle curing, just curing in general. Like how Poison continues to weaken the pokémon out of battle, something that made sure you could condition your pokémon for another battle. Say, for example, every 4 squares spent running in tall grass = 1 HP recovery.

(Unfortuantely regen-type systems tend to get abused, but oh well, that's just part of how it works)
With me, I've generally tried to beat the Gym Leaders while their last pokémon is still higher levels than mine, and without using items up the wazoo. I figure, if the Gym Leader spends a turn on an item then I can too.

Gym leaders were no problem to me. You see, I bought my first Poke'mon game, Ruby(yeah, I only took a real interest in the PKM games when I tried out my brother's Sapphire version. >.>)and it was a used game. It already had a bunch of rare Poke'mon, including Rayquaza, but the person you play as was a guy. Of course I wanted a girl(it's only right)so I traded all the good, rare Poke'mon to my brother's game, started a new game,* and he traded them back to me. Accept I let him keep some of them, for helping me out. So I started out my game with a level 84 Rayquaza and a load of other rare Poke'mon. And when I got Emerald, I just traded Rayquaza to that game. Both, I just flew through. Cool
But now Diamond, it's a DS game and I couldn't trade my beloved Rayquaza to it. Shocked So it was quite a challenge, but I still made it through. But I'd always stock up on items, such as hyper potion. And buying 20 at time, I never much worried about running out before a battle was over.

*If you have a friend with a Poke'mon game(I did this with Ruby) that you just bought, you can actually get all three starters. Start new game, get a female(for breeding later)Mudkip, trade it to your friend. Start another new game, get female Treecko, trade...ect. Anyway, after starting a fourth time, choose the starter you like best(so it'll obey you)and continue normally throughout the game, while your friend breeds like, three eggs so later you trade him/her a common Poke'mon, like Zigzagoon, for the eggs. There, all starters...just unhatched.
This is sort of a simple, but often overlooked idea.

...I always play as a male trainer.

He looks cooler. 8D;

Frankly, I always thought that that starter thing was kinda obvious, but oh well. I personally find that there are a lot of other pokemon better than the starters in general (or i just don't really like them :s) and so I have other pokemon to cover, lols.
AND in FireRed some of the rocket guys reference to the Boss's red haired son 8D
Now that you mention it, I kinda remember seeing that, too. I remember having a "wtf AWESOME" response to it. XD;; Giovanni was my favourite gym leader, too. They were so cool back then... I want an actual rival, not some rival who happens to be my best friend at the same time. DX

Re: Feebas

I have one in my FR game. 8D; A friend traded it to me. (Bastard. It only took him about 10 minutes to find a panel with them. >_< He wouldn't give me his female one, either...)

I can't wait to get to the route with them in my Emerald game. I love hunting for stuff like that~ ^A^~

I play as the male trainer all the time too XD The female designs always look so dorky XP. I absolutly love the male trainer DP. He's by far the trendiest hero so far with his fancy scarf and stylish hat.

I also really like the rival in DP... even if he's your best friend >.> He's just so crazy and hyper and blonde. I love how he practically crashes into you every time you see him.

AND URG

I HATE feebas hunting. I searched hours trying to find one and had no luck D: But I traded for one on DP which made me happy <3

I played red, yellow, blue, silver, gold, Ruby, Sapphire, Leaf Green, And that other one uhh...I forget Smile Anyways the series are cool and everything but how come games nowadays are so damn long? I mean Zelda has I don't know 6 maybe 7 games? pokemon has about 7 The Elder scrolls and 4 out right now and Final Fantasy(No offense to FF series they are the shit) but back when they first made games there were about 1-3 like Pac-man then Ms. Pac-man and Dig-Dug but I guess have a long series of games with a good storyline is all that matter the consumers of the game Look the fish link Zelda crap and whatever helps make money I suppose.

I spent two hours last night fishing almost every square in the midsection of that river. So exactly why did Nintendo make them so hard to find again?

To make people so frustrated at the damned game they scream and throw it on the ground effectivly breaking thier consol. Then they have to go buy a new.. which equals more money in Nintendo's pocket 8D

not really...

Probably jsut because especially if one is a verteran Pokemon player catching even pokemon that you have a 2% chance of seeing becomes easy by just walking through the grass long enough.

So they introduce a pokemon so difficult to find you likely would never discover how to even obtain it with out looking on the internet or finding out through a friend. ANd then when you do get it you initially think omg more useless then MAGIKARP because it doesn't evolve in the normal way. seriosly who would think to evolve the most butt ugly pokemon ever by maxing out the beauty stat. How to evolve it is another thing you'd never figure out without looking online or having a friend tell you.

Feebas is like the ultimate pokemon challange

And Pokemon Channel, Colleseum, XD, Rescue team (blue and red), Ranger, some other puzzle game for the DS who's name escapes me at the moment... Then there was the Pocket pikachu pal (think like a giga pet)

Then there are unofficial ones...

like pokemoncrater.com
