like the title says, what songs or bands make you calm down or feel happy/content? i dont know, but there are just some songs that make me feel completely relaxed and i can forget about everything for a short while and just sing along.

some of mine at the moment are:

(bands)
veruca salt
get up kids
harvey danger
the doors

(songs)
"free fallin'" by tom petty and the heartbreakers
"no rain" by blind melon
"losing my religion" by r.e.m.
"everlong" by the foo fighters
"don't come around here no more" by tom petty and the heartbreakers
"two princes" by spin doctors
"bittersweet symphony" by the verve
"sing" by travis
"teenage wasteland" by the who
"ok, i believe you, but my tommy gun don't" by brand new
"stellar" by incubus
"polly" by nirvana

hmm that's all i can think of at the moment (sorry there are so many), but i might come up with more later. so go on, tell me your feel happy music!!

This is kinda tough because I tend to listen to songs that are more in line with the way I feel than trying to change it (like being extremely pissed at someone and enjoying Axl screaming 'Back Off Bitch' "When you feel the fire, whoa oh oh ohhh, and taste the flames...back off, back off bitch..." Ah, lovely)

But of the ones that come to mind--

Bands:

Warrant (lots of fun Warrant songs)
Poison (how can Nothin' But a Good Time not cheer ya up? And Unskinny Bop)
Faster Pussycat (even if House Of Pain is horribly depressing)
Guns n' Roses (I dunno if they count, but Axl makes me happy, regardless of there being no happy songs)
Alice Cooper (very calming. Welcome to my nightmare. Cool )
Winger
Billy Idol (I think it's the voice. Anyone not love Sweet Sixteen? didn't think so)
David Bowie
I'm sure I'll add more later

Songs (a small list):

Just about anything by Poison except "Something To Believe In" and "Life Goes On"
"Sweet Sixteen" and various other Billy Idol songs
"Deuces Wild" by Aerosmith
"Welcome To My Nightmare" and "Is It My Body" by Alice Cooper
"Back On Earth" and "I Just Want You" and "Diary of a Madman" by Ozzy
"Dance the Night Away" by Van Halen
"I Ain't got Nobody" and "California Girls" - cover by David Lee Roth
"Madagascar" - Guns n' Roses/Rose n' Roses/Axl n' Friends/etc
"Patience" - Gn'R (who doesn't love the minute long whistle solo?)
Gotta agree with "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty, and I have a really cool bootleg of a duet of that song, Tom and Axl.
"Seventeen" and "Can't Get Enuff" by Winger (though "Miles Away" gets points for being the classic sappy power ballad)
"Love Bites" and "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard

Eh, that's enough for now. Razz

When I'm POed or just need some inspiring music I find the soundtrack for the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon very calming.

mmm i know what you mean, fallen- sometimes i just need some angry or hyper music, depending on what mood i'm in. but these are the kinds of songs that will make me stop everything i'm doing so i can just sing along, y'know? (then again, maybe you dont know. my friends say i get way too into my music...) and sometimes i'm just feeling in a mellow mood. those are some cool choices, tho. can't go wrong w/ free fallin' (i've gotta try and find that duet!) and yea billy idol makes me happy, too (dancing with myself is such a happy song).

hmm never heard that soundtrack, dg-sama. (or seen the movie- i feel rather left out since almost everyone else seems to have seen it)

oo i love alanis morisette! jagged little pill was one of the 1st cd's i ever got. and yea, wow i didn't even think about enya, but her music is indeed very soothing

I get involved but not quite in that way. I've snapped at several friends while or after listening to Use Your Illusion I or Appetite For Destruction. It makes me aggressive (more so than I am anyway? Yes). Razz I'll be listening to something and have a friend them slap me "have you heard a single thing I said?" They'd been talking to me for five minutes...oops...

Here's the bootleg of Tom and Axl. Even non-Axl people should like it 'cause he only does what my Axl-hating friend calls "the sick cat sound" on the chorus. Rolling eyes CLICK FOR AXL AND TOM GOODNESS

I also have one of Axl and Elton John singing Bohemian Rhapsody, but it's not as interesting. And it's a rather large file.

noooooo the link won't work! *clicks link incessantly* must... hear... tom and axl... !!!

o well thank you anyway! i'll search for it online or something

haha yea people always talk to me when i have my headfones on and then get mad or laugh in disbelief that i hadn't heard a word they had said. how silly of them. they all make fun of me b/c sometimes i end up accidentally singing out loud when i have a song caught in my head (...i always have a song caught in my head).

meh the 2nd link didn't work either, so i just got it from kazaa (please don't hurt me- i rarely download songs b/c i'd much rather own the cd). it's really good!! hehe i listened to it twice and now i'm listening to the original. it's so sad how obsessed i am with this song. it makes me feel content.... ahhh *sways and sings along* but thank you very much for telling me about it, fallen!

Hm, used to work when I did that. Ah well. I have KaZaA, too, for that very reason. Audiogalaxy was also awesome for bootlegs and unreleased stuff before it was shut down. It's people who download CDs that...well, you know how I feel about that. Rolling eyes

i hate it when people download whole cds, too, fallen

hmm isn't the matrix music like techno and rock-type music? that is, it's not what most people think of as "calm" music, rite? (i'm probably wrong on that tho) i know rage against the machine did the themesong, but i don't really know any of the other music. that's good that it makes you happy, tho, and hey whatever works to calm you down/mellow out.

mmm dont know who rob dougan is, but yea classical music is very calming

Well, I'm pretty much always chipper, so it's more of a calming effect for me, but... lessee...

Mozart (not Beethoven, he's got too much emotion)
Eight (Amante Meridiam)
Soft Jazz is always good.
Some of the Talking Heads

That's most of it, though. Like I said, I can't help but feel good, always. Or at least content. I can't remeber any time in the past six months when I've felt depressed.

So it's all good.

All I remember about Oasis is the SNL sketch where Will keeps trying to get British Parliament to vote on Oasis being the best band of all time, never allowing them to leave, etc. etc.
