oh smart one, explain how you're going to make this happen, I didn't say you sucked at art... just generally sucked, bulk of the art critic was aimed towards the other one but if you truly want to have yourself targeted, aw'right.
Better to be let down in a fanart site then when you're being laughed at by an art college admission with your pathetic anime-goggle-eye-filled-whorebat-of-a-portfolio.
Just to add to that, sometimes portfolios that aren't reclaimed by the people who sent them in are discarded and make their way into the hands of students in the program... and as mean as it sounds, merciless lulz and photocopying ensue.

Says someone who thinks fanfiction, written in English, no less, can become canon.

Hell, we do that in the actual admissions office. There's a wall in the back dedicated to photocopies of terrible submissions, mostly anime. And some that are just...I don't know what they were thinking. There's a "realistic" self portrait that looks like the bus driver from south park in a bikini. Shocked

The stuff we had was even worse than sloppy animé. Some of it did look like in was intended to have that manga influence, but all of it looked some something any given one of us would have coughed up in the third grade. No exaggeration. Someone's character turnaround was literally a stick man with an ASCII face that made different emoticons as expressions. Another person had a character sitting in a chair in front of two bookshelves as their room interior drawing, with the bookshelves crookedly scrawled in on completely different planes of perspective and only four books drawn in on the top left corner of one shelf.

You have to wonder who thinks it's a good idea to submit something like that... It's $20 to apply to the school and another $40 to have your portfolio evaluated.... I don't understand who could possibly draw like that and still be so convinced of their own talent that they think it's worth it to waste $60 plus however much time it takes them to draw 25 pieces.

They're like all the tone deaf people mangling songs on American Idol or something :\

If I remember tomorrow I'll borrow some to scan in the lab.

Well, they didn't bother to reclaim their "art", so maybe they got the hint by being rejected. Laughing

All the portfolios dropped off in person get picked up at the end of the day before people know their score and ones sent in the mail are photocopied, so a lot of people don't bother trying to reclaim them... It's submitting the art in the first place that makes me wonder.

I know that at least three people who dropped their portfolios off in person last year got 0/100 on them.

Haha, sorry to burst everyones bubble but if you aren't Japanese and you don't live in japan, what you create isn't technically called manga. And Japan probably doesn't want/need any more citizens, espically ones who don't contribute to the work force. It's not like America.

Although I wouldn't say stop drawing manga. In fact, as some told me, and I learned myself, it is the fastest way to improve your art. I am completely serious. Just notice your mistakes in each page you draw and fix those for the next one. Heck, I still write and draw the stuff, though I must admit, I never hoped to go to Japan. I was probably too old and realistic to think of that. But I know a lot of people who did, It's not uncommon.

I do want to make an original manga, and I do want to live in Japan. :/ Doesn't mean it'll be in that order or happen though. We all have dreams...

Maybe move to the Orient one day, but I doubt my art would be manga material; it's pretty crappy even after three years of practice. XD

But maybe voice talent? No wait, you need to have a Britney Spears singing voice for that...rofl

(No offense to anyone who wants to become a voice actor, just a corny joke. Rolling Eyes)

I do, my dream is to become a manga-ka. all I need now is to practice japanese language(whats dmn hard) and get me some good accesoires to draw... Is there any place where to buy manga pencils, ink, paper etc.? online maybe? Someone with the same dream as me is respected by me. XD. And yes, moving to Japan sound cool. Maybe I can get some lessons from Kishimoto. That would be an honor to do. Kishimoto is to me the greatest person on earth(after my parents ofcource) Just like Toriyama is the same to Kishimoto, so is Kishimoto to me^^

ok ok, I talk too much...

I definately don't any more. That was what i wanted to be back in like 2002-2003 when I was like 12 or 13 yrs old. Now I feel more serious about the arts (fashion, interior design, dance, mixed media, etc.).

I know this girl who wants to become an anime/manga artist, but she is way too proud of herself. Her anime sucks butt!! Its the cheap American anime, not the authentic Japanese anime! I don't really care that she likes her drawings and has dreams, but she neweds to work on it more. Her art looks like this:http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/imageviewer.asp?ean=9780439585606

Thats how simple it is. I hope your much better than her though....
