See, ppl, my free 30 day trial of Photoshop 7.0 expired--which is why I haven't updated in a while. I tried to download it again, but sadly I couldn't. So I was just wondering if there is an art application similar to Photoshop that does the same things, because I miss the awesomnes of Photoshop... Domo Arigatou^^

There are some programs similar to Photoshop you can try:

[list]
[*]The Gimp
[*]openCanvas
[*]Paint Shop Pro
[*]PhotoStudio 2000
[/list:u]

Those are the ones I know of, and I probably have left some out.

Go with PSP or Gimp. If you're willing to spend some money, PSP is in my opinion much more similar to photoshop. I went from using PSP 5 to Photoshop 6 without any difficulty at all. The Gimp is totally free, but I still have no idea how to use it. It must be pretty decent though, since it has quite a large number of fanboys.

OpenCanvas IS a very good digital art program, but it's not similar to photoshop. It's closer to Corel Painter, which is also a very nice program, though it's expensive and requires a pretty good machine to run it without lag.

PhotoStudio, PhotoImpression, Photosuite, all very nice programs, but geared more towards photograph editting than drawing and painting.

Note that if you're willing to spend around 100 USD, you can buy a wacom tablet, which comes with Corel Painter and Photoshop Elements.

There's also Mirage, which offers a demo. I felt it was good when I tried it.

Well Photoshop is the softerware I use, though I'm not very good at it. Embarassed The Gimp is pretty good as well, I live in HongKong so fake software and DVD's are easy to come by so this isn't really a problem here.. Anyway, I just use the software and scanner at school and sketch at home, can't you go to an office or digital cafe?

wow, I'm in the same situation. I feel kinda lucky that I just randomly read this cause my 30 trial is over today and I'm too broke to afford photoshop right now... it seems to be a trend with all artists, we're all broke lol

I don't know how much photoshop costs (I should, really, I have a class for it starting soon) but as it stands I use Corel Painter 9. It was about 90$.

I don't know if they offer a demo, though.

For traditional Painting, Oils, Pastels, Acrilycs ect. nothing beats Painter, been using it for 11Yrs. I only use Photoshop for some of its tools which Painter lacks.
