Should Main Characters Die?

Though it is a bit sad for a main character to die, if the plot leads to death there is no use trying to go around it. It will only make the story messed up.

Edward Elric didn't die. I saw all episodes and the movie. Ed and Al go to our world(between WWI and WWII) at the end to destroy the circle and make sure their world could never be attacked again.

Also, Sad ending? How about Himura Kenshin dieing in the last OVA of some disease? But it is romanic that Kauro gave herself the disease so she would die with him.

Also, in my series, of HP I've killed Cho Chang and Ron Weasly and in my Code Lyoko I've killed several characters but they always came back through the Scanners until Sissi got killed by Ulrich. But since those stories aren't heavy porn not on this site. On FF.Net, MM.Org, FAC, but not here.

I had the ending all figured out!
Sasuke and Naruto would be facing Orouchimaru/Itachi/Akatski Leader. One would get a horrible injury and would start to die.
The other would go beserk and kill the enemy.
Then, at their final moments came, they would confess undieing love for each other.
CRAP!
NEJI DOES NOT DIE!
I refuse to believe it.
Even if I AM a fan-girl. I mean, I want Harry Potter die because he's obnoxious. But I want Sasuke or Naruto to die because of the PLOT. Not saying that Neji AND Sasuke can't die. But I'll be very sad if they kill of a hyuga. Straw loves the gentle fist style.
But Neji? I won't want to revive him. But I will be seriously bummed. -tear cry-
Okay, we'll stop with the semi-fan-girlness and get serious.

In relation to the Assuma's death arc.
I thought that was more not for killing of Assuma, but more developing Shikamaru character and making him grow up a bit. The whole smoking, chakra...knives (forgot what they were actually called), Kurenai being pregnant and his pledging to protect it. And then going off to kill the guy who kill Assuma.
So, I'm not sure if I agree with everyone complaining about "rushing" his character. I believe it was a plot to devlope Shikamaru, not to add more info on a semi-minor character before being killed off to add some angst to the whole thing.

Just a thought...

I, for one, would have LOVED to develope Hayate's character (or "cough-cough guy" as I so lovingly call him). I mean, why did he have that incessant cough? What is his relation with that girl who placed flowers at the KIA stone? Was she his daughter? Girl Friend? Wife? Second Cousin Twice Removed??

I can't really say much about anything past Gaara's regeneration. I got to episode 18 of Shippuden before the website I was using closed down, and I'm too lazy to go about searching through YouTube for all three parts. As far as I got, some more info on the...what was it...third Kazakage would be nice. As for Sasori, beyond my finding it odd there are fangirls of a puppet, I can't say much.

Though, for the fan-girl thing, I assume he wasn't a puppet his whole life. Maybe he was semi-attractive before he peeled off his own skin.

And thus ends my long discussion.

I think that the main character should die. It would make the anime/manga seem that extra special bit more interesting (they usually are that extra bit more interesting, as it is!) and I would like to see the reactions of the character's companions (note: I am not a sadist Laughing

). It would add something a bit unusual to the plot, kinda like a cool plot twist or a major cliffhanger if the main character died at the end of a particular episode.

but if he died at the end of the series, why would you want a cliffhanger, that would just make it a bad ending.

I've always liked it when something bad happens to my favorite characater ( I'm not sure why... ) I like it when a character dies in a battle or something...

Unless it's DBZ, 'cause you already know they'll come back in, like, 10 episodes!

I said a particular episode, not end of the series. Well... unless he/she died at the end of season one and that'd mean that something else would happen to the other characters in season two?

Yes, in some instances, it is fitting for the main character to die.

SPOILER WARNING:

In Cowboy Bebop, Spike, the main character, dies. The anime was brilliant enough that his death seemed like the fitting end to the story, the closing of the circle. Not all animes can pull this off, but CB was able to. It was heartbreaking, but it worked.

Now, in animes where the main characters, hell, the whole CAST should die, they never do. Take Inuyasha. The series could be vastly improved if an atomic bomb was dropped halfway through episode one that killed all the characters in an epic mushroom cloud of pwn. Unfortunately, this did not happen. I wish there were a suggestion box for bad anime.

Yes and no. If the plot has headed that way, then of course!

Slight spoilers below..

In case of Death-note I was disappointed that Raito ended up getting killed. I would've enjoyed so much more if he would've ended up as God of the new world.

I think it would be interesting to see how the show would turn out, assume there's one main character with bunch of close friends. Kill the main character and see how it affects the story. Quite honestly I was also disappointed way the anime version of Fullmetal Alchemist ended. Movie tried to make up for it, but it didn't quite get as high as I was hoping for. Think it would've been better if they had killed Ed for good.

ok it just depends, if its the end of the series and if the writer wants it to be a true ending then they might kill a few main characters. it really doesn't bother me i mean i never get too attached to a main character. i like more of the minor characters like for example i like jakotsu from inuyasha, there is nothing wrong with that.

well anyway i doesn't matter, if the writer wants to kill a main character they can do that. it doesn't matter because you know as long as they don't kill them in a dumb way or if it is a truly important character.
