When I first subscribed to fanart, I could post pictures that I had done in photoshop. Well, I only tried one, but it worked. Now I can't post anything I've done in photoshop and that's where some of my best stuff is!! What happens is I upload it, but then where it's supposed to show the picture, all I get is an X.
It is really starting to bug me! The picture is only 300k and it's small. Four inches tall, Four inches wide, and it's a jpeg. It's done exactly as it's supposed to be done, but it just wont upload!!
Please help me! Sad

Let's try some ideas here. What is the filename? Probably doesn't make any difference, but you never know....

Also, describing the dimensions of an image using inches means almost nothing to us, because we don't know how many pixels there are per inch on that image. As for the image being "only" 300kb, you mean "under" 300kb, right? (I find it hard to believe that a "small" JPEG could possibly weigh in at the 300kb threshold, should be far smaller)

If I made it smaller than 300 k, it would be really REALLY tiny and you wouldn't be able to see any details. As it, it is really small.
See, it's not that it wont upload, because it does! Just when it DOES upload, it just appears as an ex!

Well, the LIMIT here is 300k. If it's even 301k, it will NOT load.

And inches? 1x1in. on a computer is HUGE. Please say its' dimensions in pixels so we can help you.

I thought 330 was the limit. That's what most of my other pictures are....
One inch is tiny though. I'll put it here. see? The picture I've attached is one inch.

*takes out a ruler and measures it* No, it's 2 inches by 1.5 inches... :P

Always, always state your image dimensions in pixels, because people's monitors have different resolutions, so what's one inch to you might be two inches to me and half an inch for somebody else.

Your attached image is 150 pixels wide and 109 pixels high, regardless of whose monitor you view it on. It's also 36kb, far from the filesize limit.

Can you attach an example of one of the images that doesn't upload?

I'm pretty sure that the reason it's not uploading correctly is because it doesn't acept Photoshop. I tried it with one contest picture and it didn't work. I just copied it and pasted it in....TA DA! Paint. It was easy.
Hope it works for you.

Whoa there, are you talking about uploading the actual Photoshop-made files (.psd 's) to the site?

If that is the case, then the answer is simple: Never upload images in a proprietary format (like .psd, .pdf, etc.), always use standard formats, preferably JPG or GIF.

Another possibility that I can think of, I don't claim it's the scenario but I'll state it anyway, never EVER upload a BMP file -- ".bmp" should not even be considered a valid image extension for uploads. A mere 600x400 BMP file, true-color, weighs in at 700kb! (Even at 256 colors, a bitmap that size would weigh in at 230kb! You can identify a BMP file because they load from the bottom-up instead of from the top-down like other image formats do.

Yes, saving it as a .psd is undoubtedly your problem. Photoshop files are huge (a high quality scan, single layer, can be several megs), so to get them even close to the limit you do have to resize them very small. That file type isn't accepted anyway.

SOLUTION (in case stratadrake's explanation of the problem didn't help you fix it):

Open the original image (hopefully you left the regular size one saved Uneasy )
Go to image>image size
Change the measurements to "pixels" in the drop down menu
Make sure the width value is 600 or less
Click apply
Go to file>save as
In the drop down menu where it's probably displaying ".psd", click it and scroll down to .jpg
Type in a file name and click save
The quality value for internet display doesn't need to be much higher than 6
Anywhere between 6 and 12 you won't see much difference (except in file size or print)

Should be perfectly far from the size limit then. Smile
