The idea is a good one, though. So instead of having all the art go through a panel, or waiting for a small few to put the art up for review here on the forums, Why not just make a system to let a user put a picture up for the featured art section.
Similar to the icon system for faving and and voting.
Only then every user would see something they like and put it up there. And we'd end up with poorly drawn Sonic art all over the front.
Well, I suppose this "feature button" would only suggest, not make features.
And, if it was really popular there could be an approval panel for that as well.
Or if one wanted to be really picky about it maybe only certain members could be able to have access to such a marvelous button. This could go along with the magical member rankings someone somewhere that I am too lazy to look up right now, suggested. I dunno, maybe people who have proved themselves good artists, or have been on the site for a long time or something, could be allowed to suggest pictures for feature...though I'm not too sure I like that idea, it's a bit discriminative... |

I also think you should labor hours into programming it and give the codes to Denis for absolutely no charge. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

And I'd be happy to do it if I knew the build of the site here.
But I doubt he'll let me see what the sites built on. |

Ah...just support for what someone else suggested....If Denis wants to hear how the site could be potentially improved, then good for Denis. Doesn't mean it has to happen, or that it will. It's just some members opinions.
Obviously it's a lot of work.

And wow....I started to write exactly the same thing...but then I noticed you said it, lol.
I'm probably not familiar with what the site is built on either. |

Well if you think of it in the terms of what all is needed to create that system, it is.
A log of the number of comments the art has received, how many votes good and bad, then compared to the rest of them the one with the best criteria go to the panel.
Of course that system would falter and fail, seeing the amount of bullshit commenting and votes that a picture gets.
I know PHP I'm just not firmiliar with the way that Denis coded the site.
Mainly because I've never seen it, offering code is no good if its not corresponding to the rest of the code around it. |

Why would people want to feature a picture that already has gazillion reply attached to it? Hey look! are you looking at it already? keep looking! _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Common sense says that.
The button to simply put the art up for featured art is good enough. |

we already have a featured art thread.
seeing as it takes longer time to post in it, it's better than having 11-year old retards (read: average FAC'er) going around being button happy. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |
Do you see the biased selections of featured art? that's because there's only half a dozen people who does AP/and can feature stuff, if we actually decided to allow only "good art" in here, it's gonna be Furry Fiesta Friday, Everyday.
Haha, I've experienced the whole "biased selections" part of that. Including the Featured art thread. Maybe that's why I'm bitter.
Logging data to decide featured selections is way too much work, and anyway, they're supposed to be artworks that have been recently submitted, which have no (or little) data anyway. _________________ 222.

The button was only a suggestion after Papercut_Dragon asked about it. No one ever said it was going to happen.
The way I seen it, it gave every user a chance to get their art featured. Since so little of our users know about the forum. |

Which is a good point. I didn't even look at these fourms untill barely a few years ago, I've been on FAC for much longer than that. |

I'm experienced enough to do what I need, But thats all fairly simple stuff.
I've never used Postgresql before, only MySQL and like databases. I've never even heard of Freebsd till now. You be the judge of it, I'll only be able to work from time to time on FAC. |

Aside from the fact that this topic had long been dead...
FAC's layout is not anything close to a copy, of any sort, of DA's.
Where our sites header pops out at the bottom along with the inclusion of our site's mascot (Where as DA's = 404 never existed) at the title, DA's fails to meet.
The image work on FAC is god when compared to an art site that has the least art of its own on-site stylizing.
Now with all in the exception of a single browser defined stylization, DA and FAC are very different in terms of template.
In my humble opinion:
All others with the opinion of FAC ripping off DA can go back to DA and submit some more grand front page art... (insert inside joke here.) |
