|
|
Besides becoming a Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks animator/cartoonist, I wanted to try Japanese Anime. I wanted know how you become an Anime cartoonist and animator. What do you have to do? What kind of people do you talk to? Is there a University in Japan that promotes Animation and cartooning?
Any information will help |

If you're just "trying" it now, than maybe you should practice before you go off to Todai. _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

kill yourself, and become reincarnated as a Japanese person with a talent.
Seriously, Japan is a secular society, it doesn't like foreign people trying to be hired for doing a job any college-educated native can do. However, they're enthusiastic in terms of seeing a foreigner come to Japan to work as a partnership with their own native enterprise, which is more likely. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

My Grandmother taught english in Japan for 4 years and she made a good living out of it.
I guess that's something I could think about.
I'm still thinking about getting some experience in Anime, but I think I'll stick to Disney and Pixar. |

Yeah i agree with brian, japan does like to keep foreigners out of their home, jobs. But a partnership hmm seems interesting. _________________ You dont like my post?

Seriously! You will not want to be a japanese cartoonist! Ever watched anime? See how bad it's animated? Now, You can't say people get paid much for that. If you was doing animation in a anime movie you'll get paid alright - not great. But if it was pokémon or something cheap like that, You'll hardly have food and shelter. |

Not true, in japan you mainly rent apartments, If you have a home your rich.
And im pretty sure you could live off of 600 dollars a week(anime artist have to make 2 minutes of work to get 600 dollars in a week.) Add that up and you get 28800 dollars a year Usd.
[Animators aren't paid by the hour. They're paid by how much footage they complete. The studio says "You must produce 2 minutes of work every week in order to earn your $600 for that week (or whatever the salary may be)." That's pretty much the way it is at every studio all over the world. Yes, even in Japan.] taken from http://forums.awn.com/archive/index.php/t-6040.html _________________ You dont like my post?

I'm not sure how, but I think you should pretty much ignore the majority of what people are saying and go for it. I want to get into making animes too, together with a friend of mine. Once I'm ready to go to college- or in college, I'll probablly start looking around for information on how to get involved with it-- and if I find out anything, and you're still interested at that time, and I havent forgotten and/or lost your user name I'll let you know what I find out...xD I know if you plan on doing manga, you can send stuff in to tokyo pop and have them look at it, sometimes they come out with books with a samples of a bunch of people's works and have thier readers vote on which storyline they should publish blah blah blah.. |

Honestly...you would need a ton more experience...a TON. Not saying you're bad, though. That's far from it. It just takes a really, really, REALLY long time to get really good at this stuff. I know people that are just amazing, and to get into the business is just really difficult. It's more about knowing people..Connections. And even then, to try to get your foot in the door is something else entirely. You need a strong portfolio for something like that.
And as far as working for Disney and Pixar...I honestly wouldn't try only because they are constantly looking for fresh, new talent. So let's say that having you working on one thing..one movie. You finish that, and there's a possibility you might not have a job for the next big project because they're constantly evolving new styles n' what not...or so I've been told. But keep trying. Don't let anyone discourage you. Who knows, you might turn your work around and make some fantastic things that you could sell, or people could commission you for. |

Getting into the Japanese animating business would most likely be impossible, unless you have alot of contacts. You'd probably have better luck making your own manga, which in itself would be much easier and prettier, in terms of workload and quality. Anime can butcher people's work awfully. _________________ Hurhur. Yeah that's right. |
