Does Playing The Piano Make You Smarter?

Hmm... what do you piano players think? And what about other instruments? I've seen in research that kids who play piano have better grades than kids who play different instruments. I do play piano, I guess if you play it a lot it may make you smarter.

correlation is not causation.

Just because someone plays the piano and higher grader, doesn't mean that playing the piano makes them smart.

I'm willing to bet that the kids that play the piano have anal-retentive (stricter) parents than the usual and make sure that their kids study. The piano, in particular, is a bit "high-end". In other words, I'm also willing to bet that children who know how to play the piano are generally richer than those who play the guitar - richer kids likely go to better schools, do less household chores, and have better opportunities overall.

It's been scientifically proven that musicians have more brains. I dunno exactly how.

But if Discovery Channel says so, I guess.

It's done through various evolutionary processes. The chicken slowly evolved from a reptile through spontaneous generation. So that means there were about a million generations of a lizard, slowly evolving in to a chicken.

I'm not sure if it depends on what insturmant you play, I don't even know if it matters if you even have an instrument. but I play guitar an my knowledge doesn't increase any. But then again most guitar is pretty simple to play.

I spent 8 years of my life studying piano. My marks are good more or less, but I don't feel I'm really smart. Just a normal person.
