I don't see why some books make you think, "Oh my gosh! I abosultely love (Insert Main Character name here) and how they are all good and trying to help the world" and blah, blah, blah...
You get the point...
Then a few books later, that SAME character goes bad...
SPOILER:
It's cool for some books, like TRC (Tsubasa Chronicle) and one of the main guy character's becomes evil, or............ He has a clone that's evil, but he's still kinda evil himself........... which sadly, I think is kinda cool, and now I'm starting to think that I'm gonna like other peoples like that too Anyway, you don't need to hear my life story... Sorry... XD
:x It's soooooooooooo not right...
What are your thoughts and opinions on this subject??

This might have been a good topic if you hadn't
1. made a poll with silly options, and
2. abused ellipses.
I personally couldn't care less about whether a "good" guy becomes a "bad" guy; it's all one big cliche anyway... and CLAMP isn't exactly known for breaking out of the box in terms of characterization.
It can be a good plot twist, just not in the way you decided to phrase the issue. |

Sometimes it makes for good character development if done in a good way, such as when Ling in the FMA manga willingly accepts his sin and the Philosopher's Stone and becomes the new Greed. And yet, he's still there, waiting to take control of his body. Awesome character development, and one of the reasons I love his character so much.
OHYEAH: THE ABOVE POST CONTAINED A SPOILER.
As Fayore said, though, it can be a good plot twist, again, if done correctly and in a not boring/cliche way.
And yeah, three dots are enough. ................ makes my eyes bleed. _________________ FAC |

The only problem is when a character suddenly has a change of heart at the most crucial moment. Bloody cop out. |

Typical plot device. Most anime fail at using it well, though. Games are much better with this particular scenario. _________________ |

It really annoys me when characters you thought were good, turn evil, what is the point? |

I prefer when main characters either stay as good or as evil. Changing sides is just...odd. I like main characters that don't conform to the usual "goodie-goodie" type personalities though, such as Genjyo Sanzo of Saiyuki and Light Yagami of Death Note. _________________ |

It is irritating when a good guy turns bad. Let the good stay good. I hate wondering, well this guy is good now, but next episode will it change? However, in some plots it seems to fit.
WARNING: SPOILER Like in Naruto, when Sasuke turns bad, it actually seemed to help the plot. So in some cases, it's necissary, others, not so much. ( I just put spoiler warning cause some may not know that...) |

I know its already been said but, if done right it can be something great. A betrayal that leaves the rest of the good guys a bit shaken up is always an entertaining thing. Though most anime/manga aren't very good at this...well the ones I've read aren't. _________________ The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

The only good, good guy gone bad story is with sephiroth from ff7.
It's not a manga but there is a short anime and of course its a video game. |

I want to say that a main character becoming evil is cool and offers an extra sub-plot to the whole thing. I know this, because I made up my own Jedi who started out as kind good, but he got bored in training and in the end turned to the darkside sometime after killing his own master. Part of me is, like, okay with it, but the other part says no. For instance: Tokyo Mew Mew... Kishu tries to get Ichigo on his side as he fancies her in the early episodes ((don't flame me, I've only seen 18 episodes of the anime, and in its original format, too)). She fights against it, as she has the love of her life, and all that. So, yeah... you can see I'm torn by the choice.
Good poll and topic, though. Sorry if I confused people with my ramblings, and ya... my own Jedi isn't anime at all... just using it as an example, I guess. _________________ The Force will be with you... always. |

I chose the last one because it doesn't matter.. Nothing SHOULD happen.. writing out of the regular convenctions is what makes a story good. |

Well i don't mind characters going bad.
I personally like evil characters if they have a reason (like Kish in TMM, he had a good reason to try to take over the world)
Then i also like when a character slowly starts turning good.
SPOILERS:
Like Kish from TMM, he was quite evil at the start.
But he turned good slightly, and by the end he is not evil.
END SPOILERS:
BUT, the reason why this worked is because the stage was slowly which kept him in his character.
I don't like it when a character just goes: WOO IM EVIL NOW
SPOILERS:
In TMM i also have to point out, i enjoyed that Masaya DID have evil inside of him.
But this was described in a pure evil form, deep blue, which was the main villain in the cartoon.
The anime wouldn't have worked if it wasn't for deep blue, he was the moving force in it all.
These ways are powerful and different from a cliche way; Hero under control of villain and becomes evil then with some bonds of true love breaks out of control.
though in TMM they did sort of do that, but they put it in a different way that there was no mind control, it just that there was a different spirt inside of the body.
___
So those are my views on this topic |
