I'm not sure what inspired me to do this . . . but here's a quick tutorial for an easy way to draw detailed, feathery wings for birds, angels, and other winged critters. The process is actually very easy once you get used to it, and with practice it's rather fast as well . . . heck, I completed the drawing/scanning for this tutorial in twenty minutes! (Documenting each step, meanwhile, took about 30 minutes) _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Yes. Whatever amount of detail suits your style, that's what to go for. ^_^ _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I'm always happy to see tutorials, especially from you, Strata. You take the time to explain things that no one else will.
I really like how you detail the feathers. I truthfully have never thought of showing each and every "zip" of a feather before.
Though, this one does not really cover the anatomy of the wing, and most artists on here will be "stuck" with that one view, lacking the information to go on and change it around to suit their needs. Perhaps someone will post up a detailed anatomy later on? I, myself, feel an urge to do so, but don't really have the will to draw it at the moment...

Yeah, I know it demonstrates the top-down view only. I wrote the tutorial primarily to present a simple, yet effective method for designing and detailing them. More general guides on how to portray them at what angles, etc., this was not. I do remember running across a short tutorial at NeonDragonArt.com about wings, of said general-ideas sort:
http://neondragonart.com/dp/tut_bird.html
Next, here's part two. This part isn't a set of step-by-step instructions for a technique, but more of a general reference for birds, including some basic notes on anatomy/physiology. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
