Art Discussion/General's the place for this sort of discussion ;)

Hmm... what kind of art do I like? Fantasy critters like dragons, gryphons, and non-anthros. Also a few robots and other stuff.

That shows. If not now, it will eventually. People vastly overlook the importance realism has on any style.

To answer the question, realism (human figures) n' creepy surreal stuff. Don't really do the latter much, but I like looking at it.

EDIT: Moved

Sci fi. Anyone who draws it needs both tallent and imagination, so the art always ends up looking awesome and eye-catching.

Well, primarily Anime/Manga style artwork. I've been drawing in that style for as long as I can remember (probably since I was a wee kid) Wink Although, I was into American style comic art for awhile (high school years). Razz

hmmm, Id say just about any kind of art...as long as the artist did well at his/her trade. Im not big on all the Japanese influenced comic art, but if its done well I like it. I tried my hand at it (posted on this site) I didnt perticularly like what I accomplished, but others did. Fantasy, realism, landscapes, sculpture, some comic art (and thats what I mainly do), some horror, and Ill go with Amy on the Scifi. it can be color or b/w, its the tallent and/or subject that attracts me. not just vivid colors (Im not Andy Warhol).

I like/ am inpired by most types of art. Sometimes I go on the internet and search obsessively for cartoon screenshots, sometimes I look for video game character concept scetches. Once I spent an afternoon downloading renaissance art and Mapplethorpe photos, other times I'll buy any magazine that has to do with the North American comic book style. My sketch book has a fair-sized stack of Van Gough prints stashed away in it. I just finished looking through a gallery of Pink Floyd art for The Wall.

One thing I'm really starting to get sick of is that token anime look. It's everywhere, and it seems like everyone's trying to copy it exactly rather than develop their own style. I can't stand to watch shows like Inuyasha, DBZ, or anything by Clamp, it's just too overexposed right now. I still hold some animes and mangas with original styles close to my heart like Parasyte, Les Bijoux (granted, that's Korean), Escaflowne, Hellsing, Fake, the pokemon manga (don't laugh at me, check out what the monsters look like), the Legend of Zelda manga (I actually tracked that down and bought a copy from Japan even though I already had a scanslation of it because I liked the art so much), and the like.

I like to test out new styles whenever I can. That was actually kind of the point of that banner down there in my sig.

As for realistic styles... well, they're important. The animation director for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" wrote a book that's essentially the animator's bible, and says that if you don't know realism your cartoons will always look stiff. I want to draw comics for a living someday, but I'm planning on trying to get into a university for animation in either Toronto or Vancouver after I graduate next year so I'm trying to teach myself realism. I talked to some university profs the last time I went to the city and they said that if you want to get into an art program in any self-respecting Canadian university, you need a portfolio that shows you know realism, perspective, line art, shading, several different mediums, and how to create surreal fantasy stuff off the top of your head, among many other things.

Oh, and I also have this thing for pulp fiction covers and stick figures.

Bwah, enough of my rambling. I must listen to Roger Waters commentary on "The Wall" now.

I'm not a fan of anime/manga, but I do anjoy good Japanese art such as Miyazaki's movies. I love mecha and technical stuff, such as robots and the like. I also have a thing for sci-fi and creatures. And cartoons. I love cartoons. Laughing

hmm i love anime/manga art- my favourite is the very fluid animation of cowboy bebop. clamp art is cool too.

i also love realism (especially since i find it the hardest to do), surrealism (mc escher and salvador dali are two of my favourite artists), and fantasy stuff, like julie bell's and boris vallejo's work.

and of course, comic art! it is the shiznit i must say. from classics like dave cockrum, alan davis, and even chris baccholo (maybe not a classic, but he rocks) to newer artists like greg horn, salvador larroca, and mizuki skakibara- it's all awesome

I like angels/fantasies. Also,i like girls' styles manga more than boys'(shonen). Usually girls' styles are more to fantasies/romance etc. Boys' more to fighting/robot etc. Anyway, some mangas like Yami no matsuei, fushigi yuuki, etc are nice. I like their styles. I think girls' types are more detailed than boys'. XP

Realistic (mostly humans and portraits), Fantasy, Graphic Novel styles (Like X-men), Chibi/Super Deformed, and some Manga but only a few are actually nicely styled.

Hmm...I'm not really partial to any specific style of drawing. If something is done really nicely, then I'll probably like it. All in all I guess the style that I like most is the style of whatever I'm looking at at the moment. ^_^
