This is true. Though that only really matters for the company itself. I could care less how much nintendo makes off the thing, I'm worried about if it's gonna be a good consoe. Plus they REALLY hyped up the Motion Sensor thing as you aid before, which really boosted the sales.

+ Now Microsoft and Sony are jumping aboard the motion control bandwagon.

Feels bad, man.

Luckily, 2d Fighters won't be affected, and 3d Action games won't be affected, so in the end, it really won't effect me.

I dunno, the sixaxis controls seem a lot different from the wii's concept..and Natal useses motion capturing, while the wii uses motion sensoring, so in a way its completely different. though like you said they are trying to hop on the new tech bandwagon

It's funny how the Wii keeps beating the 360 and PS3 in sells.

I know the Wii will do better in 2010, they have some nice things planned.
And for no reason: New Super Mario Bros Wii kicked ass,

And as I said before I don't think anyone other then the company cares how well the system does in salkes compared to others...the ps3 selling less then the wii isnt gonna make me buy a wii instead of ps3, so glorifying a system just because it sells more is kinda pointless. though you can say that the system sold so well due to it's games, but in the wii's case it was mostly thanks to the motion controls themselves and all the hype nintendo worked up.

Depending on how you define "competition", you mean? As pointed out, the Wii is very profitable for Nintendo, whereas Microsoft and Sony can't necessarily say the same thing.

Well, then, go ahead and correct me. Last I checked, Nintendo always turned a profit on their hardware even at launch, that being one of the reasons the Wii seems a "budget" console compared to the 360 and PS3.

I'm sure Both Sony and MS lose money everytime they sell their consoles, because the manufacturing price is higher than the selling price. This is actually the case for all printers. They expect to make profit off selling the ink cartridges/toners and the game companies expect profit from the licensing fees and royalty payments (related to the volume of the titles sold) They aren't making profit because the game developers are not porting their games to their consoles, and when they do, they don't sell enough of them. Wii, on the other hand, makes profit just by the console itself. This might be the first since Nintendo gameboy... Yeah, you see a pattern here...

Most gamers nowadays are in their early 20's to 30's. So they are older than any other video game generation before. Better graphics are same old, same old. I know most of the people I knew from university anime club (this was 2003) love playing wii with their little ones. Wii just came out at the right time when the entire mainstream community was ready to play video games (The Queen plays wii), and the hardcore video gamers had family to entertain. All the other systems are better graphics and better memory, it doesn't introduce a fundamentally different and innovative gaming opportunities. It's the same kind of progress the consoles have gone through for 20 years. What's the difference between Atari and PS3? Better graphics and better memory, but does it play differently? A lot of gamers were jaded of the same sort of "progress" each time.

I don't think it's a fad, I think it's a niche. Wii would probably evolve on its own way and stop competing with other type of consoles.

Plot is worthless. It's a good extra, but should not be a key factor.

I'm fairly sure that at this point, the production cost has lowered dramatically, and they are currently turning a profit, as with most mid-gen revisions.

What Brianhjh said. At time of launch, Microsoft and Sony sell their hardware for less than it actually cost to build them. Thus, their profits come from the software they sell for the system. They know it, but risk is still risk.

Of course, that was also several years ago. Quality controls and better production efficiency drive down operating costs, they're probably profiting from their hardware by now but you'd have to ask them.

Personally, I want a PS3, but it's gonna be at least 400 dollars with the console and mayyyybe two games. With that money, I could upgrade my computer and play top-end games, you know?

I just got a PS3. I personally am perfectly pleased and currently having large amounts of fun. lol

Wii sucked ass. The only games I really played were Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Fire Emblem. I hardly ever turn it on anymore. Though I have to now since it's blinking indicating I have a message or something.
360 was nice and all but it got boring since my brother is an incredible achievement whore and we have games for about 2 days (if it's taking him longer than usual) then he exchanges them for something else he can 1000.

Personally, I enjoy the PS3 and 360 much more. I mostly used the Wii (still a shitty name) for The RE Chronicles, tho.

If I had a choice now, I'd buy a 360 first, then a PS3, and probably won't buy a Wii unless it's for my niece.
