Pheral Redesign

I like some of your concepts.
Perhaps you should color them, or draw them with FAC's Oekaki system, so we can get a better feel for what the designs would look like.

For future reference, if you link a picture still in your submission queue, only you and the FAC site helpers can see them. If you can, link them from your Photobucket or Imageshack account.

I finished the second one, one problem I have with this one is that it even looks more like a furry than the last one, and it actually looks like it has feelings.

I made some sample banners, the size and the colors are identical to the first pheral, so if you decide to interchange between the two, there won't be a lot of surprises. Razz

I like Brians Pheral but there are a few things about it I don't like. For one, it's too anthro. I know this is a redesign contest but Pheral was always a cat, Sam was the human. It's just weird and gives off more of a sense of a furry community than a fanart community. All these Pherals with shoulders are kinda creepy.

The tail is too thick and the boots are too big. I'm not sure yellow is a good color for them. The things above his eyes look like botched eyebrows. Maybe if they were a lighter blue, or even whitish.

Is it too much to ask that we keep Pherals chest fluff in all submissions? I also think the blue paint on his tail should stay.

The Chest hair and the blue paint is easy to add.

I'm not sure about the thickness of the tail, it looks normal to me, this is also easy to change.

The anthro-look is a good point. I'm not sure which is more appealing. I personally find the anthro look more appealing but there's the issue of the mascot catering more to the furry community too. But the idea of a regular cat holding pencils and going on about human activities is weirddd (See Battou's pic).

Things without pronounced shoulders going about using their arms to hold stuff is creepy (See current logo). It's either shoulders or not having the use of arms at all, which is fine I guess.

This is why I said bring back Sam!
The cat should be a cat, and do cat things. Sam should be the artist and do artist/human things. IMHO anyway.

Also, to comment on the tail, it almost matches the thickness of the arms in spots. Thats the only problem I can see.

No, Sam was a generic character in the first place. She looks like one of those extras from background scenes in athletic festival in anime. Also, sailor-style shirt and mini skirt, that's not Fanart Central, that's Fanservice Central.

I should draw a scantily-clad Sam with the logo "Fanservice Central" y/n

Also, users like the "fanservice" in fanart central. Thats about all that matters to me, users liking what they see.
