I know the studio isnt active anymore, but hopefully it will be picked back up because the AoE series is nothing but epic.

Ignore the "From Fall of the Byzantine empire etc. etc." There are three expansion packs and you can play as the Byzantine Empire in 1399, just when the Ottoman Empire is duking out with the Timurides. The best and the most enjoyable campaign is to lead the city-state Constantinople its rightful return to former glory of the Roman Empire.

"Reconquer Greece! Reconquer Asia Minor!" Conquer Sicily, Malta, Destroy Venice, Annihilate the Holy German Empire, Conquer Egypt, Jerusalem, Destroy the false patriarch at Rome, Reestablish the Pentarchy, Aid the orthodox Russian bretheren, Heal the Orthodox-Catholic schism, I could go on...

tl;dr, play it if you are a history nerd like me.
