It's kind of like a different form of Harry Potter.

Of course, it has next to no relations next to it, but they both use magic, so what the hell. It was a trilogy, starting out with-

1. The Amulet of Samarkand
2. The Golem's Eye
3. Ptolemy's Gate

The series ended with the third book, leaving many readers hanging. It even says so all across the inernet, if you read enough of the reviews. It's a good series, all the same, and you should check it out if you have the time.

My brother, when he was little, tried to eat a worm once.

...It didn't go well for him. Not at all.

Ya know, I have not read the Bartimaeus stuff. I tried to get into it, but, again, it just didn't click. Interesting idea, but not my bag, much to some of my friends' dismay.

When I was like, in 5th grade, I was a Redwall fanatic. Anybody ever heard of the series?

EDIT: @Ian. OMG, you actually have Borders? I thought that was only a Colorado thing. Coool...

*makes face* Ya know, that was one book I just couldn't get into (my god, I'm sooo negative). I mean, it had interesting info and everything, but the way the plot was laid out it just didn't flow as smoothly as it could've.

But that's just me.
Very Happy Don't worry, I won't hate you personally for liking Steinbeck. It's just that as readers/teens we have a tendency to instantly hate a book if it is force fed to us. Let us find it on our own, fine, but having to read a book just ruins the experience.
I just don't like it because I'm not a fan of nihilism. In his books, Steinbeck sets up the main characters for failure and probable death. Suck. :/ I'm not saying they're bad or anything, but... Jeez, really. And I don't like his style of writing, either. :/
Right now my favorite book would have to Eragon. It was wrote by a kid!! its great!!
No, the guy was about 18-19 or something when he wrote it. I dislike this book a great deal - seems the author stole pretty much the entire plot from McCaffrey's Pern series. But that's not the least of it - it's not as involved, nor does it have a "higher" style of writing - he took a fair plot and melted it till kids could read it and understand it without having to hit a dictionary, or even have to think about what the book's saying, for that matter. Fail. :|
When I was like, in 5th grade, I was a Redwall fanatic. Anybody ever heard of the series?
I have the entire series up to the Taggerung, which was when I sorta stopped buying them because I was preoccupied with other things. :X lmao, I read my first one in third grade. <3 I loved them so much when I was younger. My favourite one is still Salamandastron, although I'll have to admit that once you're read one of them, you've practically read them all... XD

...

There's so many fans of The Da Vinci Code, it's insane. I have a bunch of people I know who raved about it when they read it. I have yet to pick up the book myself. Laughing Although I'll have to sooner or later; I think my friend's gonna make me see the movie with him when it hits theatres. :0

...

Canada doesn't have a Borders, nor a Barnes and Noble, nor a Kinokunbiya. Suck.

I loved the Redwall books when I was younger as well, but like you said, Fayore, I kinda stopped reading them...I think my favorite used to be The Pearls of Lutra, but I don't remember for sure and I couldn't even really tell you why. --.-- It's official, I'm going senile.

NO KINOKUNIYA OR BORDERS?! My God, I think I'd have to kill myself... ^.^

 Does this mean you're a creepy old man stalking wee little children the internet over? WTF?

Nah. I joke.

I dunno which Redwall book was my favorite. Pearls of Lutra was impressive, and I enjoyed Marlfox as well...But after the Taggerung one, I got bored and moved on to Ludlum and Patterson and blah. Sixth grade is really not a good time to be reading such violent books. But I did, and now lookat me.

Don't join the darkside, Fayore! The Da Vinci Code...it is overrated. Stay pure, stay un-Da-Vinci.

And this is a completely random question, but how do I put up member's names next to their quotes?

We have Chapters, but they suck. The only good thing about them is the fact that there's a Starbucks in all of 'em.

Laughing My friend is like that too. She loves the book, I did buy it but read one page in and decided to read something else. I guess I just have to be in the right mood? for a book like that. She loved the book and also bought Angels and Demons I think. She wants us to go and see it at the theatre with her. I don't think I will be able to watch it at the moment as I don't have much interest in the book. :\

At the moment i'm reading Chinese Cinderella: The Secret of an Unwanted Daughter by Adeline Yen Mah.
I haven't read much of it (As I only got it yesterday) but already I guess I like it. Not exactly because i'm sympathetic towards her, more that it's something new and not like the other things i've read before.

I know someone who swears if you read the da vinci code you'll go to hell.
My favorite book is Beowulf, I haven't read it in like a year so I probably misspelled his name.

 No, I think you spelled it right. Beowulf was...interesting. I liked the idea. Da Vinci Code=Hell Laughing That's funny, really, it is. Ya know what was pretty interesting to read? Dante's Inferno. That man had a strange twisted little brain. I mean, I'm athiest, but if hell existed the way he's stating it...damn.

There are 2 other books in the divine comedy series called purgatorio and paridiso. The series talks about dante on his path through hell and ultimatley to heaven. Haven't read them yet but I want to.

Tried reading through them...fell asleep. I mean, Dante was alive during the early part of our milennia, but still, it was so long-winded that I couldn't keep track after Dante got out of the Inferno. I didn't really want to know because I was fine with the ending anyway.

Virgil kicks ass. Cool

.:Interesting Fact:. I can read and understand the italian version of The Inferno....anyways, I like the inferno and have yet to read the other two...I saw this insanely twisted book that combined Star Trek with the X-Men. Ugh...Who's sick idea was it to combine something as awesome as the X-Men with Trekkies? What is this world coming to??? 8{

The ending (to me) was totally bleh.

But, if it floats your boat...Go ahead.

Haha, Dante's Inferno. I read half of it, stopped to concentrate on school work, and then never picked it back up. :0 Interesting, though. Very. I'm not interested in reading other parts of the Divine Comedy. This one seems great on its own, any more and I think it might lose the magic. lmao.
