ok..is it just me, or does anyone else get really mad at the people who are like: oh you like anime? so you like pokemon and yugioh? and isnt it for little kids?

that right up there is reeeeeeeeeally annoying. also the one: anime is stupid (then your response): why do you think that? (and then they reply): becuase its gay.

i hate how people just spout stuff off about anime when they dont know a thing about it...i think they should try finding out about it or just keep there comments to themselves. Banghead

Well, at least it's better than a full blown "OMG U DONT KNOW WHAT REAL ANIMU IS GTFO INTARNET!!!" rant.

Anime = Cartoons. Just like American cartoons, there's things like Fairly Odd Parents and then there's stuff like Aeon Flux. :\ Why can't people understand that? WHY CAN'T YOU LOOK ONE PAGE OVER TO SEE A THREAD JUST LIKE THIS? WHY? WHY?!

I actually used pretty basic english. But I'll sum it up.

1)People who don't know what anime is/Aren't Anime fans usually don't know or care to know what you think.
2) There's a thread like this Here.
3) ??????
4) PROFIT

. . . . Sigh, and I was trying to be civil about it too. Anemone frowns at my wasted efforts.

In school, I'm usually the one who do that. Seeing as I probably watch the least anime, TV, and play the least game than any Asian male over the age of second trimester. The only anime I watched this and the last year was 9 episodes of Mushishi. I can't stand whiny Japanese voice actors and racial/ethnic/culturally biased undertone that is prevalent in all anime. What pisses me about an ordinary anime fan is that they never take the interest further, in ways it helps them in real life. Pick up Japanese, learn how to draw (I mean actually be pretty good at it) be interested in OTHER genre of animation and look further than "Giappanaese" anime.

I personally believe that the prejudice against average anime fans are rather reasonable. Not justified, but it is reasonable to believe that people think that Anime is demonic product from some evil former axis country designed and manifactured to sell as much as toys and look as flashy as possible. Attitude from these "anime" fans aren't helping either.

EDIT: When I said "Average anime fans", I meant those who get their anime directly from American television and major online anime translators. If half of your anime is running over 26 episodes, you're probably a generic Anime fan!

ok moon ki..i understand where your coming from...and believe me i am not a fanboy...im not one of those obsesive nerds who eat drink and breath anime.

i am just a little mad at the people who complain, diss, or make unnecesary comments about anime when they have no clue what there talking about.

and the ethnic things you where talking about can be explained easily: the japanese allow us to play there anime so they can make more money...WE are playing THEIR cartoons...so naturally it would contain things in heavy doses that have to do with THEIR culture...so dont complain about that, becuase if you complain about that...then your pretty much complaining about japanese culture...which is very very disrespectful.

but...i started this forum for fun conversation and to see other peoples thoughts about this issue...so please restrain yourselves by coming into this forum and posting all this crap and not responding to the original issue in a mature way.
thank you

Did I say that Japanese cultural references bothered me? no, that's what I want them to focus, thus Mushishi being the only anime I watch nowadays. Perhaps you haven't watched enough series, but references to other cultures and races in anime like Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailormoon, and about 98% of the anime out there, it would be nice if they actually get it right.

You think my tidbit about how anime fans aren't portraying themselves as well as they should to avoid this is crap? Why don't you check for a similar thread before posting? Sure, the wording of the first post is different, but it's the same argument.

This is a FORUM, in the INTERNET. No one can stop from posting unless it's directly deregatory of a member or it is spinning out of topic.

Speaking of the topic, I find many anime fans, somewhat, stupid. Maybe that's why I try not to associate with most of them. I still like anime and animation though, just not 75 pecent of the titles out there and 90 pecent of the fanbase.

And go learn how to use the internet.

Anime doesn't have as good an image as it could have in the US because of the fans. In the West, cartoons are perceived as something for children, so most of the anime that shows up on network television is marketed to a younger audience. Anime is the new trend, so it's both heavily marketed and snapped up by an audience eager for the next cool thing. And we all know how mature preteen fangirls are.

Anime used to get a bad rap because people thought it was all about violence and porn. And now the problem is that so many of the fans are raging fanbrats that are crushing on Inuyasha, or whoever the bishie of the moment happens to be. That by no means is to say that there aren't any normal, completely reasonable anime fans out there - on the contrary, there are plenty. It's just that such a group gets overshadowed by the noisier, crazier fans. It's far easier to notice the bad than the good.

I personally like anime and love manga, but I cannot stand to delve into fandom. The series that I like tend to have lots of crazy fans, or are virtually unknown to the English-speaking community. I wish that everyone could have a fair understanding of anime, but anime's poor reputation is justified when you consider those who most loudly try to promote their love for it.

Oh, and Mushishi is love. ^_^

It's pretty bad in the US, but not in Canada though, our multicultural propagandas made people endure any foreign culture no matter how annoying it is. Not so bad in Britain, the Frenchies LOVE their anime and especially manga, as they had a huge non-superhero comic culture there since the beginning of time. Other European countries love anime/manga, their fans are less stupid as well.

You're right. Perhaps I should have swapped out 'West' with 'America'. Trying to give my country too much credit. I apologize. >_<

America is horribly overshadowed by fangirls. I'm nervous to check out an anime club having it's first meeting at a new bookstore in the mall I live near because it could quite possibly be full of raging fangirls.... Uneasy

Besides, I've never gotten "Anime is only for kids" Yea I've gotten the whole "Anime is gay" s**t, but in this day and age? It's impossible not to be flamed for anything someone would like. s**t happens, my point was you're stupid for making such a pointless topic. Bitching and good ideas=two very different things. This topic can only last so long on "YEA OMG I GET THAT ALL THE TIME!"

OWNED.

I actually haven't watched any anime in a really long time. One episode of Fate/stay night per week, that's about it. :/ Too busy with other things (and I'm more of a video game person anyway). Although after reading that bit of Mushishi manga, I wanna see the anime. I hear it's pretty damn good, but I don't know how well it follows the manga or what not.

I almost never hear the "Anime is for little kids" thing. What I DO hear quite a bit is, "Oh, more anime. You asians...." ://// I don't know which is worse, honestly.

Anime is'nt always for little kids, 80% of anime shows I watch are for adults only or have alot of cursing, violence, and other stuff. But I never heard anybody say it was for little kids but once.

There is an anime club at my school. When my older sister was president of it, a lot of people went to it: non anime lovers, anime lovers and the ones inbetween. Why? Because she taught them how to draw anime and realism. Now, the club is a piece of crap on a plate. All they do is watch the same animes over and over..and thats it. They do not teach anything. Basically, it is a place to sit and watch anime, why not have it at someones house? I do not know. Sorry..that was my rant.

Now..I get the same thing:
"Ewww. You like anime? Your such a weirdo."
"You like pokeman? You are such a child."
etc..

If people sat down with me and watched the in depth plot animations that I watch, then they would understand. Also in my school, we have a film studies class. I took it a year ago and we watched Princess Mononoke. At first, everyone bitched about that it was anime, but after they watched it...they were all shocked. They said it was the best thing they ever saw. Now this year, they are going to be watching Howls Moving Castle. I know that there will be a same reaction, just like Princess Mononoke. Well..I am done ranting for now.

ok moon ki...i understand what your saying. and i get it now lol, fangirls and fanboys and the frikken OMG look another anime...and OMG look at that hot CARTOON character (me..wtf? o.O).
but yes...americans are very bad at appreciating it for what anime is. anime has become another fad and not appreciated for the artform that it is.
and ill try toning down the ranting on my part...becuase your right....people who complain about others not liking anime are just as bad as the fangirls and the people who absolutly despise anime. lol

but once again id appreciate it if you stuck to the topic and not argued with me.
