eck oliver? sorry that play annoyed me. i loved the artful dodger and just the whole storyline of oliver and the other thieves, but most of the play is all about that bartender lady and the big mean guy (heh their names escape me). aaaand i didn't like those people. for a play entitled "oliver," he sure wasn't in it that much. but o well i do love the song "food, glorious food...."
aww i'm sorry i've gone so offtopic. ummm well i haven't gotten any new cd's since the ones i've already mentioned, but i will say that i really like the veruca salt cd and i love the nirvana cd- it's so raw and has some great bass parts (yay krist novaselic can finally be in the spotlite!). _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

I liked Oliver. My sister painted the huge backdrops for it. My pop made the set (even thou thats not his job... ) The 'big' theatre where my pop works is opposite my school. So i just hang around there afterwards, wandering around the place. When I was younger he'd take me to the little acting guilds and meet all the people. I live in a... not small but not big town. It's not too bad thou. Cats came here in their tent. It was so cool. They had Cadbury stalls everywhere inside... it was mad. My pop saw the original in London. And Les Mis' was in Sydney, so i didnt get 2 go. Got the book thou. Theres a new Mel Brooks production in Melbourne I wanna c. It looks cool...
I thank my lucky stars my city isnt all overrun with Churchiees. My friends next door neighbour called their dog Moses. It's queer. They're scary. Im supposed 2 b from a very religious kinda nationality (philippines... big on christianity) but im not the religious type. Mayb when Im old or something...lol. Im not in2 religion. My friends a wican or some crap along those lines... I guess to each his own. Cheers,

My sister is just at University doing an art course, n i begrudgingly admit that she is a hell of an artist. And well, she usually gets employed at the theatre to do odd art jobs, like set painting, backdrops, advertisements etc. Seeming my pop works there he kinda gets my sister to help with all the artish kinda stuff.
I live in Australia at the moment. And thats where she painted them. When I was younger I was in the Philippines. But Ive been here virtually most of my life... im kinda from a highly religious nationality(moms a filipino, pops english), but Im not terribly religious myself now. As a kid I was, did all that kinda christian stuff. Go 2 church on sunday, do my holy communion, begrudgingly b in the church choir, did my rosary etc.
Well, Im gonna post a pic done by my sister on here. I didnt actually get her permission, but she's my sister. I've also altered it by adding a "Illustraded by Marie 2003" on it, so It doesn't get stolen. It was one of her assignments. It's a dodgy scan. Sorry. cheers,

wow that's such a beautiful picture, lucien! they look so real! you're sister is indeed a great artist.
and that's so cool that your family is so involved in theatre (there's nothing even related to theatre in my area- except the dance program i'm part of, but that's nothing big). my uncle's a director, which is cool b/c he's met some famous people and stuff, but i've never even seen any of his plays.
um is the new mel brooks show The Producers? i've seen the play and movie- it's soooo great!! ooo but if it's a new play, that'd be awesome, too. *is HUGE mel brooks fan*
hmm ok should someone make a play thread, or something? heh i feel bad going off topic. _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

There we go. I only split off the ones that were 99% about drama and left the ones that still related to the first. *shrug*
That's a really beautiful picture, lucien. I was in Oliver once. I don't think I painted sets for that one, though. I painted the sets for Scrooge (I remember that one because those store fronts were a pain in the arse). Somehow I ended up helping paint/build sets for Hello Dolly. Now that my beloved drama teacher is gone, that English teacher lady can blow me and just pay the set builder extra hours before I help her with those poor excuses for plays she puts on.
Granted the Scrooge sets and such were 7th and 8th grade, so they were certainly far from artistic masterpieces. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

My pop's met one of the Doctor Who actors. He's met a stack of famous people. (Not movie star famous... but famous enough...)
Yes, it is the Producers. It's finally touring in Australia~!! Mwahahaha. I've never seen it... but I want to. It's not coming this far up the coast thou, so I'll have 2 go down south to c it. Cheers,

woo-hoo thanks fallen! i helped paint the sets for my 7th and 8th grade plays, too. (heh heh it wasn't based on artistic talent, tho. anyone who wanted to could volunteer). We did Fiddler on the Roof (i got the only main role that didn't sing. uhh yea i took the hint) and Into the Woods (eww we only did the 1st act, which sucks b/c it starts to get good in the 2nd act when half the cast dies). hmm i use parentheses a lot...
o that's awesome, lucien! you have to see it, it's sooo amazing! but if you can, rent the movie version, too. zero mostel and gene wilder- can't beat that! also, the storyline was altered for the play, so it's not the same thing over and over.
aww i love your new avatar, chris

Technically the first sets I painted were all volunteer. If you wanted to help, you could and the money went to fund the art program (what was left over, that is, after buying paint and brushes). But it always ended up with me, teach, and a couple other kids staying late repainting all the things the kids screwed up. Especially the 6th graders (that class is still an absolute nightmare). I had to repaint 4 panels of brick walls. Ugh. How hard is it to sponge bricks? *sigh*
8th grade's when I went on the art trip to Italy, so those going got to do the sets and the money was split between 'em. Somethin' like $150 a piece. Those were cool sets, too, but it was the year they did Scrooge. So again, those of us in 8th grade ended up staying even later and repainting storefronts.
I liked painting Hello Dolly 'cause it was a high school play, so the sets were actually built, not just panels. I ended up painting railings, sculptures, etc.
I don't even remember much of Fiddler On the Roof. I've only seen the movie, and I slept through most of it. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

eh don't waste your time on fiddler on the roof
o that's so cool that you got paid to decorate sets! and in italy- that's awesome. sorry you had to stay late and fix it tho. damn 6th graders! (haha i had to did sponge bricks for my middle skool plays, too!)
eh i'm on stage crew for my high skool, and we build most of the sets from scratch, and do the basic painting. but this awesome guy helps us out w/ the detailed sets b/c he does airbrush and other nifty art things (he's always hijacking my drawing pad and making cool little doodles in it). he even makes shirts for the cast and crew (they're not free tho). so our sets usually come out looking pretty cool b/c he stays late painting. we did bye bye birdie last year, and the set was so brite and colourful is was blinding! but at least i didn't have to sit in the audience and watch it _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

I wish I could paint the sets for the school... they usually only ask the actors 2 do it... which ends up real crap. They rly should ask the art department. Or they choose the art teacher that no1 likes n she always choses 1st yrs (yr8) or 2nd yrs. **shakes fist** This year Im gonna try doing as much as possible for art. I'll do the stupid sports banners... they always look s**t. Mite as well help out a bit. I am doing the school magazine cover~! Mwahahaha~! Take that crappy art rival~! (A girl at my school want 2 do it- she thinks shes my rival.. bah!) **dances** She's gonna b so pissed when she finds out... Ive been slotted 2 do it since last year.... I was supposed 2 do last yr, but i let a yr12 do it coz it was her year.. n she was an awesome artist. Cheers,

That's why I stay far away from the art club and such. They're always doing dumb projects, and I'd rather spend my time doing something else. They do holiday window painting for local stores, but they're always so hideous (90% of the art club are just people who want an easy club to put on applications or people who like art but lack the ability so far). 8th grade my school activities stopped. For the most part, and completely now that budget cuts have destroyed anything I do enjoy doing (drama club and such).
That's cool you're doing the magazine cover, though. They got rid of our yearly school art magazine...because of budget cuts... _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Ive never done n e thing concerning the art department, I've painted a mural in yr10 on one of the art room walls, but some1 fucked it up with black paint... I thought this yr i'll contribute 2 something being my final yr.
There's this huge competition im gonna go in 4 local art students. I want 2 do it, but hopefully I don't have to draw n e thing meaningful. I cant draw stuff with meaning. I just draw stuff to look nice... I never have a message in my art... heh
Cheers,

There never has to be a meaning. Just pretend there is and leave it up to the high n' mighty judges to come up with their own meaning for it. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

haha that's a great motto, fallen! (aww sorry about the budget cuts. damn them!)
we have an art/writing magazine thing at my skool- but no one ever submits anything (and most of the submissions they do get are.... not that good). i feel so bad for the blueprint (name of the magazine) committee- my friend's on it and they had to make all these posters asking people to submit and now there's like a prize or something for the best 3. i'm actually thinking of submitting a little something b/c i feel guilty for not giving anything in last year. (eh i don't really like doing that sort of thing. i like it here b/c i don't know these people so any comments on my drawings are objective).
hmm i was asked to draw something for the yearbook, too- haha i think it was supposed to be "meaningful." they told me exactly what to draw tho, so damn i couldn't draw demons devouring the skool (let's see how the nuns feel about that!). o well it came out really bad- but i'm sure your cover for your skool magazine will be awesome, lucien. o we have murals in my skool too! umm i think they're drawn by the senior studio art class or something. i wanna do one! (ha like i'd ever make it into a class like that! but i can dream...)

We have a couple murals, too. One is near the office and is really good. The other was in the arts building, but last year they had a senior paint over it as her independent study class. And quite honestly, it's the ugliest mural I've ever seen. She kept redoing parts and just made it worse. She said in her comments in the yearbook that she barely ever works in color, and it shows. All the colors are hideous and clash and it's just...bleh. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

haha what a loser. but why did she have to paint over the mural that was already there? (seems rather disrepectfull to me). was there no empty wall space anywhere else?
o by the way i wanted to start a top 5 list in this thread for top 5 plays (if anyone else is interested) sooo name your top 5 favourite plays/musicals. mine are:
The Producers
Beauty and the Beast (my 1st broadway play- i've seen it 3 times)
Urinetown (one of the funniest things i've EVER seen)
Oklahoma!
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (now i'm not one for sappy bible stories, but for some reason, i'm obsessed w/ this play- i literally know every word and i've seen it multiple times)
Noises Off (hilarious slapstick-type play. i saw it w/ peter gallagher. that is cool, no?)
The Mikado (hilarious opera)
o damn that's more than 5, isn't it? o its so hard to choose! ah well while i'm at it the Scarlet Pimpernel, My Fair Lady, Pippin, and Red, Hot, & Blue are also grand

Well, the mural that was there was extremely old (as is the one near the office), so the art department thought it was time for a change and that the one that was there didn't "express what the arts building is about". The original had some people in shakespeare-type costumes, some with paintbrushes and such, some playing instruments, and some on computers. The only thing they ever pointed out was the ones on computers, but....we have graphic design classes! And the one that was there was really pretty and realistic. The one now is some stupid abstract thing with "actors" on a stage, but they don't have any bodies, just clothes. The poses are horrible and stiff. It's just all around ugly and doesn't represent the art department at all.
And I agree it was disrespectful to paint over the other person's work to begin with. I think the bigger thing was she was a senior in independent study (taken all the art classes and had a trimester to create her own projects), and she was always sucking up to the art teachers, so they let her do basically whatever she wanted.
Favorite plays....um....jeez. I actually haven't seen that many that I'd like to because no schools around here ever do good ones (how many times can they do the wizard of oz?!), and of the few broadway ones that come through Portland, the tickets are always spendy, and no one likes going besides me.
I've always liked Chicago, though.
How 'bout plays we really hate? I can't stand The Music Man. Not one little bit. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

aww shakespearean people on computers that's so cute. hmm i think you should sneak into the skool on a weekend and paint over the crappy mural w/ some cool picture (haha like axl or kurt- that'll really express what the arts building is about, i'm sure)
eww i hate suckups. there's a girl like that in my class who sucks up to EVERY teacher- it's so annoying. she has no talent, yet miraculously makes all the plays (hmm how'd that happen? could it be b/c her mom gives so much money to the skool, or b/c the girl gives lap dances to the director? i dont know). she hangs out in the chem lab in the mornings and sets up the experiments- it's so creepy.
i really want to see chicago! i love the movie soooo much (the music is amazing! and catherine zeta-jones is very cool).
hmm plays i hate...
ok Carousel is the most pointless play i've ever seen!
uhh i hate fiddler on the roof and into the woods simply b/c i've been in them and have some bad memories, man. but the real play of into the woods (not the stupid broadway juniors version) sounds kinda cool.
Annie! god i hate that play! she is so annoying and ew. haha i've seen the movie billions of times tho b/c i love time curry and he plays rooster, so i just watch the "easy street" number and then change the channel. carol burnett was great in that too.
hmm can't think of any more at the moment. usually i like or love the plays i see (it's so sad i'm a play fanatic- i get chills sometimes watching a good play... dont ask) _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |
