Here's one more I'd like to add.. just to see what she thinks about them now.. so here it goes.

Nine Inch Nails. I'd like to know how you think their new album and newer stuff in general (Like Only, The Hand That Feeds, Everyday is Exactly the Same, and Sunspots are their most popular songs on the new 2005 album: With Teeth) Compared to their biggest hit 'Closer' and others like 'We're in This Together' 'Somewhat Damaged' 'Terrible Lie' etc..

I'm so curious on what you think of it, because from what I hear, their new CD is.. quite different compared to their old. It's more upbeat, and has some slower songs as well. I've liked NIN since I was like, 2, so any NIN CD is basically great to me, so even if they change, I still love them. =\ So I want to know, what do you think of the newer NIN stuff compared to the old?

I've been having internet trouble all day. I'll get to them when it's cleared up. About half those I don't have much to say about, but yeah.

Any more approval and the clothes start coming off.

Then Denis would post his 'does not approve' pictures.

Slipknot, Cradle of Filth, and Mushroom head were only examples. I was saying Death Metal/Gothic. So I guess it isn't fixed. Razz

Ok, movie is finished, internet is now fast as it should be, and I think I'm successfully giggled out at the bouncing cockage in the shorts...so. On with this then.

The Verve Pipe

90s band. Cheesy. Never really paid them any attention, so I can't say much more than that. At least the singer, ya know, sang.

Indifferent

Smashmouth

Lolz Ya know, I'm pretty sure I still have Astrolounge in a box somewhere. A very misguided friend gave it to me for my birthday when you couldn't turn on the tv or radio for ten minutes without hearing Allstar. It's been useful for some soundtracks, and at least they don't sound like every other crappy band out there. They've got an interesting thing goin'.

I classify them as the Poison of the 90s. They were (are?) just fun. There's no pretentious meaning in their stuff. I don't actively choose to listen to them, but I can tolerate them. I made a wicked cool T-Bag video to one of their songs. Think it's called Then The Morning Comes (the one that goes "the way that you walk, it's just the way that you talk like it ain't no thing, and every single day is just a fling" etc etc.).

Indifferent

Bush

First of all, burn anything you have by them. Second, the singer's kinda cute in a very...gay way.

Again, a 90s act I determined were certainly terrible and promptly stopped paying attention to. Their musical ability may be ok, I don't know anymore, but nothing stands out. Filler on the radio, not worth $15 to buy anything from them.

Does not approve

Blues Traveler

They release too many albums.

However, in a decade where mediocre was the best most bands could hope for, I suppose they're the lesser of two evils. Another case of "why listen to them when I can listen to ____ who did it better", but they're good enough for what they are.

I don't like their name. Dunno why. And they aren't the best lookin' bunch of guys in the world, but maybe that's a good thing. Their look fits their awkward name. Though I think they need some long dirty hair, more pot, and a broken down van to live up to its full potential.

moderately approves...meh

Weird Al Yankovic

Another one that doesn't really count. He's good at what he does...I guess. Some of his songs are hilarious, others are just stupid. I've never bought an album of his 'cause there's always that one song that's just brilliant and the rest are there only to fill up the track list.

His personality annoys me, though. Kudos on what he's accomplished for being a loser.

Approves in theory, not in practice

Thrash And/or Speed Metal

Ow. Makes my head hurt. But, as with almost any genre save for a couple, there's always groups who do it well and the rest who suck ass. Speed metal has the same problem as grunge and punk and such. There's a handful of people who "get it" and do it well, and the rest who just stand there figure "gee, I can play a couple power chords really fast and turn our amps way up, and he'll just scream about death or something, cool!".

There's nothing particularly wrong with the genre as a whole, just that a good portion of the artists in it suck balls.

indifferent

The Killers

Ah, the Killers... MCR's little pillow biting buddies, given that all I see from their fans are a bunch of little boys with bad haircuts and trendy ripped up clothes arguing over which is better. Don't worry, kiddos, they both suck equally. No need to fight.

On a completely superficial note, NO ONE should be allowed to have a "the _____" name EVER again. Although it is a handy way to tell if a band is going to suck, because that kind of lack of creativity in naming the entire band usually carries over into the music as well.

I overheard a couple socially challenged girls arguing about the apparent rivalry between the Killers and Fall Out Boy. That's the special olympics of music right there.

And just to get this out there MR. BRIGHTSIDE FUCKIN' SUCKS. Of course I'm not saying you can't like or listen to the song, so don't bother with that argument, but it's such a shitty song. They suffer tremendously from the non-singer syndrome. It sounds like the dudes you see singing along to the radio in their car.

It's unfortunate because musically, while Mr. Brightside can't be saved, Somebody Told Me had slight potential to be a decent single. Musically it was ok, lyrically it was the same *yawn* material, but the melody could've been a good savior had the vocals been there.

Overall they're just a bad band. The content has been done so many times, and it's really just the frontman who's dragging it down to such terrible levels. He needs to sing in his range. That would help. If they insist on keeping the flat thing.

does not approve in any way, shape, or form

Twiztid

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA-- oh, you were serious.

I'm not even going to waste my time, except to say there's a very obvious reason the only people you see wearing Twiztid swag are suburban losers who wanna pretend they're tough while standing in the taco bell line.

does not approve

Insane Clown Posse.

They were part of a video we watched in Crit Analysis and Semiotics. While normally I would say the same as Twiztid, the fact they used to be a semi-interesting underground movement just makes me say they're worse. In the documentary, they made a big deal about never being mainstream, never selling out to what they were trying to do, and never being about the money.

Look at them now.

wishes them dead

Tool/A Perfect Circle

While I hate Tool and can't stand to listen to them, on a quality basis they're...ok for what they are. They're interesting, what with the videos and content n' all that. They're slightly less trendwhory than a lot of similar groups, and they aren't a clone band. Given that I don't listen to them, I can't give any recent examples, but I wouldn't stone someone for owning their stuff.

approves

A Perfect Circle on the other hand are bottom of the barrel crap. Hate hate hate hate hate. Hate. They covered Imagine. One of the "do not touch" songs. And worse than that, they killed it more than I thought was possible. The thing about Imagine that makes it a "do not touch" song is any cover, even not as bad as the APC one, will destroy the whole point and feel of the song. Just leave it alone, assholes.

The rest of their stuff is typical "we learned to play listening to ____ metal bands and sound just like them, only not as good". I'll give them credit for having some good dynamics in their songs, not 4 minutes of constant noise that all sounds the same. And the singer sings, which is a bit of a saving grace.

So. Musical skills are adequate, it's just the content that is so....ugh. Although come to think of it, "Pet" would make a pretty sweet Maytag video if there was more footage of him.

does not approve

Sevendust

Can't work up the energy to comment.

does not approve

P.O.D.

I have...issues with anyone who likes POD. Mainly the same issues I have with any mainstream christian act, which is the incredibly annoying pretentiousness. Their songs are garbage until you say "oh, well it's about jesus, so the overused cliches are ok 'cause...well...it's jesus!". Add to that the "yes, we get it, god is good, fight the sin, life sucks, evil temptation, thank you, you can stop now".

If I EVER hear youth of the nation again, I will personally kill someone just to watch them die. Could we get more obnoxious? Everything about them is wrong and grating and they would be NOTHING without the little jesus freaks following them around because they have "morals" in their music. Right.

does not approve the jesus freaks

Pink Floyd

I think I'm the only person with decent taste who doesn't like Pink Floyd, except for a couple songs. Yeah, they were talented, and they're legends, I just...don't like them. Nothing to do with them, but since this is all about me and what I think, figured I should mention that.

Otherwise, they're fine. Good writing, good musicianship, lately they've been blown up a bit like the Beatles, but not quite so bad. Common victim of expensive knock off merch and "vintage whoring", bunch of kids who couldn't name a Pink Floyd song if their life depended on it, but they'll wear their t-shirts 'cause it's "cool".

approves

Radiohead

Fake deep music for fake deep people. As I mentioned earlier, I won't say much about them because there's ALWAYS at least one delusional fan who thinks they're the most artistic thing ever, but jesus....just listen to them.

I put them in the same category as Moby.

And that's bad.

does not approve

Audioslave

I never liked them, especially that one slow song that was played over and over for months on end, but skill wise they were good. As super groups usually are. Problem with super groups is always the same. It's great in theory, take all these famous musicians and put them together, but it never works out. They put out a good debut that some fans of each person go out and buy, but after that first one, they have to stand on their own without the carried over fans 'cause if the album isn't very good, those fans aren't gonna stay.

Add to that they usually break up anyway 'cause it takes a certain amount of chemistry to stay with the same people for very long.

The music was ok, nothing to drool over, but ok.

indifferent

White Stripes

Aw, touchy touchy are we? Well, then you'll be slightly relieved that I don't despise them as much as I could. I hate their music, but not because they suck. Jack knows what he's doing, he's got talent. The Meg chick is terrible, but she gets the job done well enough. They've got an image and they work it.

It's just not my thing, but they aren't disgustingly trendy, and Jack's one of the people doing the simple thing in a smart way.

indifferent...or perhaps moderately approve...meh

Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society)

It's Zakk, what's there to say? He's a great guitarist whether he's with Ozzy or not. I don't personally listen to BLS 'cause it ain't my thing, but they're good enough.

I do hate the look he's had for the last decade, though. Let's go back to the waist long hair pretty boy look instead of the Rob Zombie mountain man please. :(

approve

Death Metal/Gothic

See speed metal. Except if it's on MTV, it sucks without exception.

TBC 'cause I have to get back to painting and writing an essay....
