Why spend your money on alcohol, when you can spend your money on video games? 8D

Mm, I got the FFXII PS2 bundle pack used because it was slightly less than a standard PS2 new ($200, lol D: ), even though I'd rather play FFX than XII. Well, FFX is super-cheap now, so I'll definitely pick it up sometime - I only played it through halfway, and I hated most of the voice actors, so it'll be nice to finish it in Japanese. I also bought Okami (can mean Wolf, but is spelled as Big God), which I think is due to be released in the States sometime. I've been wanting this game for a while, and now that I have it, it makes me cry tears of joy. The premise of the game is that you're a wolf god sent to destroy this evil snake-demon thing, and you do this by defeating demons and fixing the world with your paintbrush. You use the paintbrush to do various things like putting flowers on trees and slashing at enemies. This game is billed as a 'nature adventure', and it's not nearly as lame as it sounds. The artwork is gorgeous - everything looks like an asian brush painting - and the whole rumble feature that kicks in when you fight or jump was unexpected, but also very exciting (haha, I'm a total video game n00b). Needless to say, I am thrilled, not only because this is my first game console, but also because I conducted the whole transaction in Japanese - the sales clerk wouldn't talk to me until he realized that I could converse in Japanese just fine. XD

Anyway, that's it for now. I'm too poor to afford anything else - gotta save the rest of my money for Comiket next month.

Way to be horribly off-topic, sorry. D:

...To an extent. It's more fun when I don't know what the present is.

I can see that, but on my end it's not so easy. :\ It's supposed to be "the thought that counts," right? It's not so fun when the presents don't really show any thought for the person at all. :\

Sorry, I've just seen too much of "I bought this for you 'cause I thought it was cute/cool" in my day. :S

I'm inclined to agree. I'm sick and tired of Borders gift cards. Ever since I stopped buying English-translated manga, I haven't had much use for them. Er, maybe that means something's wrong with me. Blah;

I don't usually treat myself to much besides books and the occasional CD. Actually, I think the only time (besides yesterday) that I've ever really splurged on myself was during Comiket last year. Oh wait, I remember when I bought my DDR pad I was really hesitant to let my family know I had it because I was sure they'd frown at my extravagance... It was like, $50. XD I'm generally pretty miserly, but I think it's better to be a tightwad than a spendthrift anyway.

:S That is kinda sad. But it sometimes IS hard to pick presents for your friends, because you're not quite...sure...what they'd want. I mean, I'm grateful that I get gift cards--simply because that way I can choose the present.

The one really touching present I got this year was from all my Orchestra friends. I used to have this piece-of-shit case for my viola, the felt was coming out and everything, and they had actually put in all their money and bought me this beautiful, $500 dollar case as a going-away present.

It was the nicest thing I ever had a friend do for me. Smile

That's true, though I don't usually get that problem because I tend to start interrogating people when I'm getting someone [I don't know well] a gift. 8D
I mean, I'm grateful that I get gift cards--simply because that way I can choose the present.
... D: I actually really prefer hard cash rather than gift cards because then I'm not restricted to a specific location. And all the gift cards I've ever gotten are for places I don't shop at. :l

And wow, that IS a great gift. The best kind shows lots of thought and consideration. <3

Yes. <3 The Nerd Herd was good to me. The best friends I could've ever asked for.

I never really ask for much on my birthdays. These days all I ask for is maybe a CD, or a video game. When I was little, for christmas and my birthdays, I'd make long lists, but now I barely ask for maybe five things at most on my birthday. Christmas, as of late I've hardly gone over ten. Though my family usually tries to surprise me with things they think I might like.

Gift cards...I get those alot. Luckily for me, my likes and dislikes are pretty obvious so they get 'em right most of the time. The only places I ever shop at are Barns & Nobles, EB games or Gamestop and Target.

I never ask for stuff for my birthday. I don't even make it public knowledge, usually. My parents never remember my birthday, either. :O

Last birthday I got a Jack Skellington plushie from my sister, and a Slime plushie from the combined efforts of my friends.

...

A lot of people seem to think that they only need to give you a present if you're having a party. That's kinda depressing. D;

Yeah, I got one present from my friends last year because I wasn't able to have an official party. D8 And yet they expect me to buy them present on their birthdays, lol.

I'm 18 this year. I better get some good shit.

All I want from my parents is a tablet and maybe a little money, since I'm a greedy whore and I love just... having... money. :|

3/13/1990- It's usually a school day on my birthday, so I don't really bother with it.
And, also, in 2009, my birthday will be on Friday the 13th.

I'm like you, then. :O

But I think I'd be on my way to becoming the proud owner of a tablet faster if I just got a job. :0 That, and I just can't bring myself to ask for such an expensive piece of equipment. :l
