The bug is actually very well-known. Do a News search for "Soul Calibur 3" and you'll find links talking about its savegame errors.

Yeah, after the first time mine corrupted, I just learned to more careful with stuff. Everything's been working perfectly since then. :)

Don't go screwing around with memory cards without protection, kids. OWNED.

My friend bought it and it kept screwing up. Plus it messed up his memory card and he got so pissed he snap the game in half since it was too late for him to return it. I just wish I read this earlier to warn him about it.
