why are we discussing this still? everyone should be happy now that their work looks better... right?

and those who are still upset and want a lighter, more easier-to-use color scheme, can wait until denis gives us the option to choose from different layouts.

Alright, I don't know why everybody's bitching about a stupid colour. It's just a background colour. You're here to view the art, despite the fact that a layout for a webpage IS art... Nevermind though. It's just a colour, and Fallen's reasons for supporting it are right. For picture mattes, you always see darker colours. And the gray works fine.
As for being a DA rip? Um. no. DA, being a DA member myself, uses a pea green. This, people, is gray. Gray. Not green. And it looks fine.

Now. I like the layout. It's very nicely done. Much more sohpisticated than the old layout. And I'm sure all of you people will get used to it. It's really not that different. I like the way recent pictures are displayed and I like the way the profile layout is done too. It's VERY nice that you can actually see who the people are that favourite you and what-not. I'm really liking that. Good move, mods.

Now, concerns? I'm a little concerned that is says I have no images, and in actuality, I have about seven or so odd pages of pictures from over the course of several years. It's probably just a glitch or something that hasn't been worked out yet, so it's not that big of a deal.
Another thing, though, a lot of pictures don't seem to be loading. There are places where they're supposed to be, and they're just not.
And speaking of loading, the pages seem to take abnormally long to load. I'm talking about waiting anywhere from two to five minutes. This is about normal dial-up speed. I have a fast connection where the pages normally load in 10-30 seconds. I'm not quite sure why this is either. I'm hoping it's just more stuff that needs to be ironed out.

Other than that, I think it looks fine.

I felt the same way the first time I saw the proposed layout.

As for colors... let the guests view the defaults, but I happen to [i]like[/i] blue. Translation: Multiple skin options, please. Smile

(Though, in contrast, I suggest that when you view your [i]own[/i] gallery, they don't need filtering anyway since YOU drew them....)

Most sites have their logo in the upper left. And the titles of sections in a different colored section. DA is green (for now), FAC is blue-grey. DA is infinitely more complicated with all their other features and partner links.

There are only so many ways to set up a community art site and make it functional and easy to navigate,

There shouldn't be any popups. I'm trying to get rid of them. But FAC's top advertiser disappeared and fac's costs just quadrupled so I'll take what I can get for the moment.

The google ads just weren't paying due to lack of clicks so more annoying ones are needed to pay for the servers.

Then don't upload one. As for no offline links. Offline links break allot so I decided its just better to not have them anymore. The space isn't a big issue.

Its not black, just a very dark grey. Maybe you should check your monitor calibration if it looks fully back to you. And feel free to expariment with colors and suggest if you find something you think is better.

Most likely your pictures ratings are higher than your rating prefrences (default to low which I think was converted from PG). Edit your profile and adjust your prefrences.

Thumbnail cache is still being rebuilt which is causing problems. If thumbanils on a page don't load. Wait about 30 seconds then refresh and they should all work.

This is called a box layout is nothing unusual. Most sites on the net use this style of layout. Look at stuff like any portals or search engines (except google which uses a very simplistic style).

Regarding the profile pics, this is a bug. Its supposed to scale them DOWN to that size, not up. Ability to remove profile pics will also be added soon.

Regarding layout color -- Why does the layout need any color at all? I think the pictures and thumbnails do a great job of adding a splash of color to the site. A lot of tweeking is needed with colors and alignment and stuff and will be done soon.

I'm pretty indifferent to the new layout, really, or at least the look of it. However, I don't really like the new colour scheme...not because it's too [i]grey[/i], mind you, but just because it's too [i]dark[/i]. Even when I set my monitor at 100% brightness (which is EYE GOUGINGLY BRIGHT) it still looks too dark. Were it just a few shades lighter, I think it would be perfect.

Also the logo bugs me. It's just...every time I look at it I roll my eyes. A logo shouldn't make me do that. :(

That being said, I absolutely <3 everything else. The way that the profiles, galleries, and especially the submission page work now is delicious. :D

James, I don't wanna go back to your post to quote you, but you said something like the colors weren't thought out. Funny.........I tend to remember taking some time on choosing colors.They might not be the exact colors as the original, but pretty close. That said, I do agree that the bg could be a little lighter. Not extreme light, just maybe 2 shades lighter. I don't see what the big deal is anyway if soon enough we will have different layout color schemes to choose from. And yuck barf if that blue one James made makes it in. No offense.. but I don't take a whole lot of offense to all the shit that is being said about this layout so I'm guessing you won't Smile

As for the logo, yes it is childish looking. I would say that other than a lot of the crappy art on fac, it is one of the only unprofessional aspect of the site left. But I like it. Know why? Cuz I made it. So I'm totally biased. Seeing on how things go the logo could probably be changed. I know of someone who made an alright logo who would probably cum if he got it up. As for sam, fuck sam. She'll show up here and there.. . but I really don't see why anyone would think sam is a huge loss. A generic looking school girl anime girl. *coughes couple times* Fallen, i don't have your skills or your estetic eyes but i gotta say this color is more like prison than FAC. The blue/lightblue/white scheme was better and gave happy feelings from this site for me. Now they are just gloomy ones. There would have been needed from colors to change white to light grey, but the whole site seems to be dominating grey which saddens people (?). Only little slights of blue and those are also dark not making anyone feel better. And this is just my opinion from this scheme so stop thinking everyone-who-misses-old-FAC-should-be-banned thingies and let people have their voices and tell what they don't like so moderators can make site even better!

Avatars... I liked more from bigger ones, but now only 64x64! and must be under 0kb? Impossible for me atleast since i tried to get one with bitter failure and only managed to get 1.5kb in forums. But in gallery side it wasn't problem at all (which i definetly wonder very much why i can get there but not here)

While we had old layouts and all, everything went in few seconds to get to next page of forum on my own comp and school comp also. Now it takes LONGER time for my own comp to get to even forum (from minute to 3 minutes). And with school comp i was able to do everything in 15 minutes in this forum. Now they takes that 12 minutes to login and to get to topic and when i finally get to replying and i am middle of writing then i gotta go to lesson!

Galleries.. well... gotta say that they are better than in old layout but there ain't seen all thumbnails (or is it just my comp?). The way you putted the main page is good, but i wish for changing dark grey for lighter one.

Honestly people.. why are you still bitching about the colors? There will be different color schemes available soon. No need to bitch.. you will get your different color choices soon enough. Also the logo will probably change pretty soon as well. That's okay. I only spent a couple of days on it.. while i was preg... and should have been sleeping or enjoying my last couple of months of freedom.. but no.. i was on the computer working hard on a logo.. a logo that would be thrown away. This site wasn't ready for the brilliance of my logo. A pro logo like that... belongs on DA. It belongs in art galleries. Seriously though, the site needs a more pro looking logo to go with the new layout. I think there are a couple that are being taken into consideration that James made.

So...I don't care what makes you happy. Naked men, vodka, and loud music makes me happy. Let's work all those into the layout too, especially the first one. Bonus points if it includes my RK picture collection. Since it's not about the art, just looking nice and making people happy, why not.

In fact, I demand a half naked RK skin to make me happy. With my bloody concrete background. And it better play "girls girls girls" or "smooth up in ya" with no visible button to turn it off. And the text will be James Fajaro, 72 point font, BOLD RED.

I complained mostly from speed of this system and avatar (and how much i hate the color, but i get used on it if ihave to). like i said before, and a few people acknowledged it, we're getting multiple color schemes. And i'm sure there will be something suitable for everyone to choose from. Dark colors and light too. so i think the color issue is solved, if people can just be patient :x Though all the bickering opinions are good and help us decide what the people want, so just hush, fallen Wink

As for four people, lol. I think there's a little bit more than that. And if you want to have more professional artists on here, get rid of the logo (And place the logo under the recent or featured submissions :3 Layz's work should be ackologied. xD I can't spell. ). Pheral and Sam were our main character (no offense, Layz) so they sould be.

But FALLEN, you didn't even bother to read my advice on the color scheme, did cha? I said black, grey (lol I typed gray, yes that would add sex appeal.), white and blue. To help break up the emo-ness. (But like James said, there's already been enough discussion about it)

Seriously, As per color of da, I wasn't even talking about the background color. I was particularly talking about the layout ITSELF. I think the news collumn needs to be front and center (it wasn't in the other one, and it's not in this one.) Or atleast a little larger.

I mean but BESIDES the lookingness of the FAC, lots of stuff is awesome.
