Your concept of pixel art is...strange for perhaps the simplest of technical concepts. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

... Okay, that sounded like Spanish to me.
I edited my last post with a recent isometric pixelart. It's the only thing I can do from scratch except the actual clothing and such. _________________ Best Quote Ever: "B&."- Said by multiple people.

Translation then: To do pixel art, you click pencil tool, size one pixel, pick a color, dot dot dot dot, new color, dot dot dot dot, new color, dot dot dot dot, and so on.
All the talk of layers, tools, gradients, etc. is not part of that equation. Overly complicated (and generally just another form of shortcutting). _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Actually, the only thing I really used the tools for was a sign for a doll. Also, I used layers so I wouldn't botch what I'd already done. I'm not missing it very much, though; it started pi**ing me off when the trial was nearly done, because it refused to merge the layers. And what I meant by the gradient thing was that I fixed the transparency of the layer to make it fade in the colors. That's really all I used PSP for. _________________ Best Quote Ever: "B&."- Said by multiple people.

It's not really that hard to do gradients by hand for pixel art... just alter the colour a little every time. Start with some smaller projects so it's not a huge undertakinging to build your skills. _________________

And that's what I meant by shortcut.

Then try again until it looks good. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I did. Eventually, when I got it to look good, I saved it. GIF completely destroyed it.
And I had saved it as a PNG. TT_TT Turns out, even PNG has a limit to its color schemes.

This is the latest I've ever been on the forums.... _________________ Best Quote Ever: "B&."- Said by multiple people.

256 colors should be good enough, how many colors are you using? _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

When converting to GIF, always go for the "optimized palette". The default palette generally sucks.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Optimized?
Well, I made a base. Link to it below. Working on a doll on it. I hope you're happy, Fallen, as this is my first base ever. Used no references, no pictures. Took me two hours. Edited very little. *I am currently editing the eyes so there'll be a big enough hairline, though.*

That's pretty good, really.

I know.
That's just the first draft of it, though... I'm working on the edited version that actually has a hairline. _________________ Best Quote Ever: "B&."- Said by multiple people.
