The parts that are in Spanish don't really impact the show. If there's anything important being said it'll be in English. _________________ Go Yankees! |

I know that what's said isn't important (probably), but it still bothers me. _________________ "Jack Flash, of course, Doc, refers to Mick Jaggar; Jumping Jack Flash, Sympathy for the Devil. It's all there. But I've always thought that the Jester in the James Dean coat was Bob Dylan!" |

Yeah, but hey, it might be just the incentive to learn some espanola! 8D
I am really getting into this one. I love how he manages to keep girlfriend Rita's mind off of sex by getting foreful with her whenever she decides she is in the mood.
Eh. I tend to disagree...Dexter doesn't want sex, true, but it's more that he doesn't know what the hell TO DO, and thus goes by a somewhat teenage mentality of what would be right and wrong to guide him in the relationship...which can lead to problems. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

Bumping teh Dexter since it's about halfway through the season. And has been picked up for a second since it's Showtime's most popular series (big surprise).
Much as I love the show, I just can't get into the "fan community" for it. Which is sad. Guess maybe 'cause it's on premium cable and isn't a blockbuster network series that attracts large amounts of the general public (whereas prison break has all the irritating swooning girlies and people who can appreciate a good serial killer character for what they are). But soooo many people just love to analyze poor little Dexter. Which is fine, lord knows there's been enough psychological Teddy discussions, but Dexter has attracted this super-obsessed group of people who know the sociopath stereotype front to back and relentlessly try to reason/rationalize Dexter's character into that mold. Sociopaths don't do _____. Don't feel ______.
If that were the case, Hannibal, Dexter, Bagwell, Bundy, Gein, and so on...would all be the same person.
There's generalizations, but christ, every other Dexter discussion is about "ZOMG he can't do this cuz sociopaths dun care about _____".
Just venting. And vaguely hoping some people here are watching Dexter with a slightly less retardedly critical view and would keep this topic alive. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Unfortunetely (it makes me sad to say this), I myself have not been able to watch any other episodes than the first two--primarily because our cable company sucks, and we don't have Showtime.
Much saddness.
But how is it going so far? Anything I should know about? _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

I have nothing intelligent to say. I'm just going to admit that now whenever I see a picture of Jesus I think about Dexter. _________________ Go Yankees! |

Ummmm not that I can think of at the moment. But then, they haven't really gotten far enough into the story in the show to really decide. All they've had to handle is pretty basic with the first couple murders and messages to Dex from the ITC.
However, they have done a large amount of fleshing out the story. Which is good, since 12 hours is a lot of time to fill with one novel. And it's fun to see what they do, the writers have done a good job of making it fit. They added some additional things to the ITC murders to give the characters more to do and think about. Gave Doakes a little side plot for awhile.
Dexter is a bit more...personable, but I think that's partially from it being an actual person with a real voice and real charming smile in front of you. It's hard to not like Michael.
The whole mood is just a little different, but not exactly any worse. It's a great show regardless. I'm waiting to see how they'll handle the end, since they've made so many little adjustments to the rest of the ITC plot.
And next season, since I assume it will follow the second novel, will be even more interesting to see how they handle it. Whether they'll change it to feel more like the first or stay somewhat faithful and just have it be...different.
Moreso, if it's picked up for a third season (which it very well might be, given Showtime's shitty track record and the early success so far. Gotta compete with HBO's six season winners), that will probably follow whatever happens in the third book. But after that...the novels don't come out that quickly. Will be interesting to see what happens. Psh, thinking like 3 years in advance here.
I don't get Showtime either, I torrent it. Then I'ma buy the DVDs, yay! (though stupid showtime probably has $90 DVDs like HBO does ) _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Episode 7, Circle of Friends: Yessss. I knew it was coming, but that ending was absolutely perfect. They couldn't have done it better. Between the timing and Dexter's expression....ah, so happy. The narration was really good too. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Yeah, I think everyone guessed it. And it gets even better for you, given how you feel about Deb. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Oh...so the season is over, then?
I pray that the finale was as beautiful as in the book, and that La Guerta...
Well, we'll see about her, right? _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

There's 3 episodes left. I can't really tell you where they are in the book 'cause they REALLY changed the ice truck killer plot. Not in a bad way, it's actually really fun, but it wouldn't have been fun in the book. And I think people who have read the book like it even more 'cause of...well...
Spoiler for those who haven't read the book and are watching the show
In the show, the ITK kidnaps an employee of the ice rink where he dumps the body and cuts off limbs to leave as clues for Dexter. The guy who makes his prosthetics turns out to be the ITK (which they showed episode before last when he was preparing another body at the end). HOWEVER, now they also have Deb dating him after they met in the hospital, and she's "falling for him". In this week's episode, Dex got a letter that his father was dead, so he took Rita to go sort out the "mistake". Brian...or Rudy as he's known so far...convinces Deb that Dex really does need her support, so they all go and stay in the house of his/their dead father. So the whole episode was really funny "Lolz Dex doesn't realize his sister is dating the ITK". And additionally, people who have read the book are going "lolz That's your brother!" It's just really different, but really fun. It's like a super alternate universe fanfic.
I'm starting to get the feeling, from how much they've changed, that the ending will be a slightly different premise than the book. But for the most part, they've kept all the key scenes intact. So maybe. Maybe it'll be the same.
_________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I dunno how quick Showtime is about releasing things on dvd. Probably pretty slow, given it's a premium cable series.
I like her dating him too. The changes they've made are good, still in character to the novel, and fun. Still loving Michael as Dex. And so far the actor playing Brian is really good too. I wasn't sure about him at first, given that all you saw was his good guy disguise, but now that they've revealed who he is...he gives off the creepy vibe well.

It's been so hard for me to not accidentally spoil the big remaining secret about Rudy/Brian. I forget that most people think he's a serial killer with a man crush on Dex. Oh what fun is to come.
Pic spam of teh bonding.

Well, I spent about 6 hours sitting alone in a sound booth today at work (copying DVDs), so I spent the time rereading the second half of Darkly Dreaming Dexter to better compare the last handful of episodes.
And now that I have, and have watched this week's episode a few more times, additional thoughts on the tv Brian...
Again, spoilery for people who haven't read the book and don't want to know.
For one, I'm so glad they chose to make Brian a much bigger character. It would be impossible in the book, what with the first person narration, but knowing who "Rudy" is (ITK or knowing he's Dex's brother) is way too much fun. Except now I'm incredibly curious what they're going to do for the ending. 'Cause they could still do the three heads I suppose...which I REALLY hope they do. They showed Brian preparing body parts after all. But after that...finding the body parts and the video...won't work. Since they know what Brian/Rudy looks like. No mistaking him for Dexter.
There's been a few little foreshadowing lines from Brian about what happened to the brothers and all. Substantially changed as well, but does that mean there won't be a fun cargo scene? Sad. Either way I'm sure it'll be great, just disappointing to not see that part brought to the screen.
Aaaaand. What I realized tonight that I absolutely love about having Brian in so much of the show and knowing he's the killer with an interest in Dex for an unknown reason... is that he's Dexter times ten. Commits cleaner murders, sure, but the way he acts is exactly like Dexter's fake charm only taken to the next level. He sweeps Deb off her feet and has no problem screwing her senseless. Poor poor Deborah, when she finds out her wonderful new boyfriend is hacking up all those hookers just to tease her brother.
Suppose Dex won't find out Brian is his brother until the last episode. But it'll be fun till then.
And in a non-spoilery fashion, I made Brian/Dex caps 'cause I couldn't find any other than those above. And that just doesn't cut it.

Poor poor Deb...

Brian: "The guy was 60, it's like his life started when he was 30."
Rita: "You know, you're right. He's right."
Deb: "So what happened between years 1 and 29?"
Brian: "Maybe he butchered his entire family"

Brian finds Daddy's music collection and blasts some Foghat.

Dex: "Oh good, dancing..."

Ooh, serious kitchen talk.

Brian: "Wouldn't be the first time an addict fell off the wagon, Rita"
Dex: "Or someone slipped him a sedative so he wouldn't struggle when he was injected with something"
Brian: "Like?"
Dex: "Diabetic insulin. Can cause cardiac arrest..."
Brian: *oh snap!*

He needed a Vader voice. "Dexter....this...is...your...father..."

Dumping dear departed daddy. ...It's gonna take days for the D alliteration to stop forming in my head.

Oh, Brian, you scamp. Ominously entering an old woman's house. Silly boy.
Sunday can't come fast enough.
ETA: ......I do have every episode as an avi. So at some point. If there's a need from people. I can do a big sendspace dump or a disc mailing like I did prison break. 'Cause apparently I'm the awesome tv pimp. Just no one better fag out on me like the people I sent PB to did. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
