Yes you do. Unless it's a copy of another picture, you own the copyright as soon as you create it. Fanart breaks trademark, so you couldn't do much legally without incriminating yourself, but unless the person who stole it was making a fortune off it, it wouldn't be worth the trouble to get a lawyer, fanart or not.
