haha... its good, maybe you should try doing the text with bevel and emboss so that it looks as if it was carved in the stone, try it...

Most of the soldiers had already gathered in the briefing room when Gray and Will entered. Gray, now sporting a sizable scar down the right side of his face, beamed at Chesh and Kate, plopping himself down between them.

"Morning ladies," he said, beaming at them with his toothy smile.

"How's that healing?" asked Chesh, indicating the jagged gash that ran across Gray's eye from his temple down to the tip of his nose, "I don't think you've ever looked prettier."

"It does distract from the rest of his ugly mug, doesn't it?" joked Will, sitting himself down on the other side of Chesh, "but really Gray, do you realize how many girls that is going to get you? 'Hi, I'm Gray. I'm an X-COM operative. I took a piece of shrapnel to the face, but instead of dying I decided to pull it out of my head and beat the hell out of the aliens with it.' There gonna be all over you man."

They all chuckled at this as more soldiers filed in.

"So," said Will, "anyone know what this is about?"

"About as much as you do," said Chesh, "apparently this, what ever 'this' is, is highly sensitive information of the need-to-know variety."

Will was about to respond when the briefing room lights dimmed, the glow of the projector screen now the only source of light in the room.

"All right, your attention please," said Commander Denis, standing up before the congregated soldiers, "lets get down to business. For the past few months Intel has been monitoring alien air activity trying to find some sort of pattern in their flight paths. Two weeks ago, it paid off, big."

Denis clicked a button on his wand, bringing up an infrared image on the screen.

"This," the Commander continued, "is a satellite image of an alien base of operations right here on earth."

He waited for a moment, allowing the shocked mutterings to die down again.

"We don't know exactly how long this base has been in operation, but we are assuming it is fully functional, as well as housing a full compliment of well armed and equipped alien soldiers, scientists, engineers, and officers. The base itself is located on the largest of the Hawaiian islands."

"What are we talking, ocean front property, sir?" said Will jokingly, "good view?"

"Can the comedy routine, sergeant," said Dennis, "but no, the base itself is located about a quarter mile underground. Anti-air defenses are dotted all along the surrounding area as well, making the island effectively isolated from attack."

"Ok," said Brian, "so how exactly are we expected to enter? I mean, we can't just waltz up and ring the doorbell."

"Actually," replied Denis, "we can. Interrogation of several of the captured enemy has revealed access codes used to identify craft and clear them for landing. The whole process is done automatically through a computer system; no actual operator is overseeing the clearance. Our friends are either too cocky to think we could crack their codes, or have overlooked one hell of a serious design flaw. At any rate, transmitting these codes from our own crafts will effectively disguise us long enough to enter the base and begin our assault before the enemy even realizes we are here."

"Question, sir," said Logan, "what about the alien atmosphere inside the base. How do we know it won't be hazardous or something?"

"We've thought of that too," answered Denis with a hinting smile, "ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to the latest in personnel armor. The PPA Power Armor. Air tight, alloy plating suit completely encases the soldier inside, while a full exoskeleton allows free ease of movement while enabling the wearer to carry heavier loads. Combine that with an atmospheric regulation system and vitals monitor, this piece of hardware will finally allow us to take to the enemy on even ground."

"Very nice," said Gray, impressed, "does it come in red?"

"Stow it soldier," said Denis, "ok, I want every man in on the training course in fifteen! I want you in and accustomed to your new suits, as well as weapons prepped and ready to go! We are launching this assault in forty-eight hours. I believe you have your work cut out for you. Move it!"

This is really cool! XD I've never heard of the game, but it looks like something my brother would play. Laughing

I've noticed as time goes on this is becoming less and less a play-by-play of a strategy game and more a full fledged story. I'm sorry I didn't even get to the attack, but when I saw I had already two and a half pages (I type this in Word) I decided to just cut it off and post it as the prelude to the action to come.

Unforeseen events (namely a professor deciding to bump up a project due date to Friday, today) has kept me in the studio for most of the night. I am now going to go take a shower, get some breakfast, and cry because I have barely slept at all this week. Sad
