lol whoa whoa i'm not saying that being a one-hit wonder is bad. all i meant was that i didn't want harvey danger to be lumped in with the kind of bands who have one big hit, and then all their other music is filler and sucks. some great bands are one-hit wonders (tho i've never thought of hendrix and grateful dead, but i'm not too familiar with them), so sorry that i wasn't clear on that point.

and yes, remko, the pogues are awesome.

more bands (not sure if they were named already by me or someone else but i don't feel like looking at the moment): broken social scene, mogwai, jamisonparker, bayside, breaker! breaker!, sparta/at the drive in, lit, the bouncing souls, action-action (formerly the reunion show), rx bandits, lucky boys confusion, death cab for cutie, big d and the kids table... and that's all i can think of off the top of my head. god i miss my laptop with its wonderfully diverse and organized music collection...

and love the new avatar, flea!

Those comments were more directed at John.

Okey... they aren't really odd, persay, but there a band that I like... Tegan and Sara... couple of girls about my age (I'm 21 by the way) from Alberta, Canada... I really like their music... and one day, while looking randomly though the CDs with a friend at a music store, I found a band called Crispy Ambulance... seriously... I downloaded one of their songs, when I could still find it, and it was strange and different, oddly good...

I just thought you guys would like a fair warning. I usually don't get soundtracks unless there's a song in the movie I like and it was made soley for the movie.
Soundtracks are gambles. You can either hear good artists or bad artists. Usually both.

Fuel
Rage Against the Machine*

*I talk about this one SO MUCH that some of you may have checked them out. They are well known generally, but there's still a lot of people who don't know them. To hear good examples of their work:
-Listen to the song at the end of the Matrix. When Neo walks out of the toll booth, you will hear "Wake Up"
-At the end of the Matrix Reloaded, moment the credits begin to roll, you will hear "Calm Like A Bomb".
-In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, you will hear an edited(peice of s**t) "Guerrilla Radio"(buy The Battle of Los Angeles to hear the unedited version. BOLA is the only album without a parental advisory because the FCC overlooked it by mistake)
-Buy the Godzilla soundtrack to hear "No Shelter".

Audioslave is becoming known, but still needs to get more attention(despite Grammy nominations).
Rammstein is the coolest German heavy metal band I've heard.

Thanks for spellin' that joke out for everone.

Yes, they do. Spanish teacher had a couple CDs that were rock-ish. I'm not a big fan of music where I don't know what the lyrics are, so can't say as I liked it.

Jet is okay, though I only like "Cold Hard Bitch".

I don't mind Jet. I didn't run out to buy their album, but their first single didn't get annoying nearly as fast as most others. And I only heard Cold Hard Bitch once last night while watching VH1 for about 5 straight hours (well, listening to it as I moved categories from midnight to 5am), whereas I heard that stupid Outkast song FIVE TIMES at least. I know why they do it, same reason you hear the same song on the radio all the time. The average person only listens/watches for 17 minutes, and in that time they want to hear something familiar, but still... There has to be more videos out there. They've got 20 YEARS of videos to pull from. A few themed hour blocks wouldn't kill them, especially at 3am. Don't think you're really competing for ratings at that point.

Jet is good. I got tired of "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" when it was used in them Target commercials....

Fallen, I need to add Velvet Revolver. Not near as many people down here have heard of them and even though there aren't too many people from SC here, I just wanted to take note of that.

Eh, they're alright. Better than Linkin Park or whatever, but nothin' amazing, in my opinion. They've got a pretty good sound, just nothing that really grabs you.

Hmmm....KISS and Poison are coming to Charlotte, NC.....

The Ramones have probably been mentioned. Them damn punk posers have no idea where the true roots are....

This will shock you, maybe. I went to the mall to try and find a Rage Against the Machine DVD and I met a guy wearing a Nirvana shirt. I asked him if he liked Nirvana and you know what he said? "Who? Man, I'm sorry. I'm more into Kurt Cobain. I don't like that punk poser s**t."

I asked him how he could like Kurt Cobain, and not Nirvana. His answer:
"Nirvana was a bunch of motherfuckers who didn't know jackshit about rock. If they had Kurt Cobain, they would have done a Helluva lot better than "The Man Who Sold The World""

I left him alone. I didn't even find my DVD. What a waste.

I may as well add Nirvana for that guy. I can do that, right?

Ah, gotta love the morons...

I see some people walkin' around in vintage shirts (RATT, Motley, Faster Pussycat, etc.) they buy at these places just because it's cool to wear old band shirts. They have no idea who the groups are. I'll never understand the point of that.

And you should check out the show, even with lawn seats. Good stuff.

I would, if Charlotte, NC wasn't about 260 miles away and my dad could take time off. One of the biomed techs at my dad's hospital bought a drive in theater and now my dad's working double. My mom won't drive me as she has no right leg.

The point is to look cool, soon to be known as a moron. People are gonna ask you what your favorite song is. I can give those, but this isn't the right forum.

You won't believe how many people I know have never heard of Guns N' Roses. I'm not a die hard fan, exactly(I am a fan, nonetheless) but our radio station plays enough Guns N' Roses to fill 4 C.Ds worth.

I was surprised to hear that they hadn't even heard of the "Boss", Bruce Springsteen. I like his music because he does have his moments where he has good solos.

Yep. Reminds me I have a Cinderella "Night Songs" shirt in the mail... Woo.

I was a TLA for my favorite math teacher one semester this year during his "sheltered math D" class. The kids in there were comparing music "oh, I love Linkin Park, dude!" "I like Slipknot!" "no way, eminem is da bomb". Teach was laughin' at them, so the little punk that likes LP goes in a very mocking tone "Oh yeah, what do you like? Probably Guns n' Roses, Def Leppard, Van Halen... You got that Hendrix poster up there. Dude, get some taste"

Oh poor misguided children...

Same here. Got a few posters in my room and a few friends of mine saw them. One of them asked who the Hell RATM was, and I gave him the answer, but when he asked me about the Nirvana poster, I was stunned, specially since I let him listen to In Utero 2 days earlier. Fortunately, another friend of mine said she knew about "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and she told him about Nirvana. He remembered "Tourettes", thank God.

Ever hear of the Blue Man Group? Friend of mine likes them only because they performed with Dave Matthews once. I don't know if they're good or not, but they beat on pipes and paint themselves blue... I should probably remind myself that this is the same friend who blew away 480 dollars for a cell phone......

Seether is ok, I guess. Did a recording with Amy Lee from Evanescence, though, for the Punisher soundtrack. Not inspiring, but it could be worse. Coulda done a recording with Barney.

Okay so Blue Man Group is good, obviously with percussion. But get the cd "The Complex" it has actual songs; ya know, with words.

And one thing-- dont go calling Jimi Hendrix and The Grateful Dead f**king one hit wonders. You werent alive in the late 60's so you sure as hell dont know EVERYTHING you might think you do. No one ripped on your favorite music, so gain some respect for other peoples favorites. Grateful Dead have been going 30 years strong-- where will half of your favorite bands of the moment be in 30 years? So Jimi Hendrix shot to stardom quickly- hes not the first one. I dont see you travelling the world to packed audiences.

And I'm sorry to Alex The Great- I didnt mean Harvey Danger WAS a one hit wonder I only meant AROUND HERE they played one song on the radio. Hence I put radio- hoping maybe it'd make sense. I think Harvey Danger is good, so, sorry again.

If this is going to be a place where people will inevitably mention their favorite types of music, etc-- gain some real respect for people, and not some BS excuse for it, okay? Expand your horizons a little maybe. Do something.
