For me, anime/manga is special due to the art and the plot...and the endings...

I just looooove the artwork...somewhere between the western cartooniness and live-action, it shows emotion and character and action that the cartoons cannot convey, yet, being animated, hides the flaws present in real people...

The plots are amazing! (usually) non-episodical, they last long enough to give one a sense of the characters in them, and are full of twists and turns that the pathetic western cartoons can almost never replicate...

And the endings...since most animes have a set number of episodes, they don't putter out slowly like those western shows that fizzle quietly when the ratings decline, they go out with an amazing ending that leaves you happy and fuzzy or aghast...

I sound like an advertisement. End rant.

Most people I know, when they hear someone mention the topic of anime, at least one person near me will say "Anime is weird." I think that's pretty prejudice...My friends think anime is nothing but stupid cartoons and "weird" things like ninjas with purple hair and dailogue with a bunch of gasping and stuff.

But that's not true at all.Yeah it's different and, as some of you said, out of this world, but Anime and manga have plots with really deep meanings and life-lessons and interesting conflicts. One of the reasons I enjoy them is because I relate to the characters in story plots like Fruits Basket and Kare Kano. I love it!

I also like it because, and this might sound strange, but I like those worlds better than mine, you know? I'm not unhealthily obsessed or anything, but it's like wishing your life was a fairytale. Or a manga. It's sad.... Rolling Eyes

Personally I like only the ones I can relate to. So basically the one ones I like are the ones based on musicans. Yonen Buzz is like the only one I like so far.

America is better than Japan for majority of stuff, stfu.

sports, movies, school, (how good a school is is not measured by how many students kill themselves, or how good students' grades are) gas prices Rolling Eyes

whatever.

I still don't get why some fangirls are waving those stupid "Japan is superior" image macros every now and then, as if Japan's manga paradise where everybody cares about your goddamn hobby. A Japanese person who comes here and expects everybody to love baseball and have stacks of hollywood movie dvds' and have the perfect caucasian physique would be quite annoying, am I right?

because that's what you sound like.

I don't know why anyone would want to live in Japan, maybe a month's visit or something, but live there? Yay expensive food and lodging plus one of the highest suicide rates in the world~

SPOILER: If you watch anime in Japan, you're an Otaku, which is not a good thing despite what Americans on the internet tell you.

Though Reading a Manga is just as normal as reading a book. So..

Anime Japan and real Japan are different.

I prefer a lot of Canadian/American cartoons over anime, due to the fact that there are usually morals in the Westernized ones. Anime is mostly just a bunch of stuff that happens.... . . .

Bishilover? You will never be a manga-ka, you are not Japanese. There will never be any american manga-ka PERIOD. I'm betting you also can niether speak nor read/write in fluent Japanese. You will never meet any of your favorite artists unless one of them is visiting an American anime convention and you happen to be attending them. That is just how things are. You need to either get out of these pipe dreams and into reality, OR you can get off my internet. Frankly you're bugging me.

Also, don't use any more frigging AIM speak. On forums it's considered rude. Just type the whole word out. It's like what? An extra second of work?

Now people let's get back on topic before I close this sucker >.>

I would. :0

Yay people who photograph up girls' skirts from bathroom stalls and post them on 2chan whoo akihabara selling random H games nobody's heard of woo Overpriced food prejudice towards foreigners YAY LET'S MOVE TO JAPAN!!!!!

Beyond the "LOL BLUE HAIR OSHIT PANTIES" thing that differentiates it from American cartoons, you see a Consistent Storyline in anime more often- Not to say American/European cartoons are lacking this, but you see it more (and in larger quantity- quality is often overlooked) in anime. While I like the "Theme of the Week" thing in anime quite a bit, the former is probably much more appealing to people who are almost constantly exposed to the latter (see: Dexter's Lab, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Fairly Oddparents and whatever else is popular on TV).
Sounds like you're saying that if you move to Japan, you'll kill yourself.
Totally misses my point.

I was trying to get across that PEOPLE ARE NOT VERY HAPPY IN JAPAN. I know that suicide rate in developed countries are high, but Japan goes off the mark.

If I said that the crime rate in Japan was high, would your response be "Oh no, who cares, I'm not gonna commit any crime lol lol lol"?

Japanese society is a mediocre one, Even though American society is flawed, I'm still going to say that the US does better job in internal affaires. (not foreign, you suck at that).
The reason I think that a lot of people enjoy anime/manga, is because it is different than regular cartoons.

Anime is a continious adventure with action and some emotions. Some female anime creators make the girls emotional in their anime. Some males make it to what they like.

Regular cartoons is just entertainment. Hardly any cartoons stick to an continious adventure. Most of the regular cartoons here at the USA are just entertaining, hardly any action, and just some comedy (This is actually kind of hard for me to explain) Such as Family Guy, it is just a cartoon, it doesn't stick to one topic, but it is there just for to be funny.

I find it that many teens and kids enjoy action and adventure more. That is what I believe.

No one said there was something wrong with people watching anime =/

But there are many people who are obsessed and make others uncomfortable.

I like some anime/manga, but I'd never watch some childrens' series just because it was anime =/
That's like an older person watching Dora the Explorer just because it's a cartoon.

People love anime because it was made to be pretty. Anime emphasizes the human body into what the young'uns would prefer it to be: big sparkly eyes, tiny nonexistent noses, small mouths, sharp chins, long perfectly flowing clumped hair... Rolling Eyes
What'd you expect?

Plus, the plotline is something deeper than just most american cartoons, but it's still kept at the basic animation style as that can often be easier on the eyes than actually 'filmed' movies... Not meant to be kiddie, meant to be for all ages, yadda yadda.
Most anime makes me depressed. I go look for the few that aren't covered with big-boobed girls. :[
Most of the time, watching anime makes me embaressed, even if no one else is around.

And don't deny that the Japanese are pretty deep in the hentai/porn.
I like some anime, but I'm not going to Japan. They bore me, and their language isn't worth learning.
I'm chinese, so I actually know a lot of the roots of the japanese words. It doesn't impress me much. And I don't need another language made out of consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant-vowels all strung together.
