So what do you think of Capcom's (and Megaman's) future? Do you like them, hate 'em, or don't really care? No extreme comments please, thank you! |

Actually, I can. -_-
IMO, the Megaman series is a little overdone. Too... many... games.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I. Love. Capcom.
Seriously, Capcom is my favorite game company by far. The company makes/publishes all my favorite games. The Capcom fighting games, Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero, and a few others. Bionic Commando, Strider, etc.
However, I was never a fan of the Battle Network series. Didn't like the whole premise of the game, the battle system, style, anything. Not saying it wasn't a quality game, just not my type of game. If I play Mega Man, I want some sidescroller action.
Oh, the topic. I think Capcom will be doing very well in the future. It's got very popular franchises under its belt and is always a presence in the market.
Street Fighter and 2D fighting games in general are what I'm worried about. It's been years and Capcom hasn't uttered a word about Street Fighter 4. And their last fighting game, Capcom Fighting Evolution, sucked. So, not too good on the 2D fighting field. _________________ >:C |

I think Capcom needs to stop with the damn sequels. Resident Evil is one of the longest running franchises in the gaming industry, and quite a few of these games were half-assed anyways (Gun Survivor, anyone?). I don't think Street Fighter has had a great game released since Alpha 3, and games like Guilty Gear are still taking the 2D fighting genre further. Megaman's anohter one of those games that has something brought out every year. How many games does that series have now? _________________ "You know what? - Mega Man (1-9, Mega Man Soccer, one or two others)
- Mega Man X (X1-X7, and Command Mission)
- Mega Man X Advance (2 games)
- Mega Man Zero (2 games)
- Mega Man Legends (2 games)
- Mega Man Battle Network (at least 5 games)
That's... enough to shingle your house with.

Who cares about Megaman, Megaman sucks. Play one, you've played them all. Played that RPG Megaman, played the other two-four that followed. Capcom has SUCH more better franchizes such as:
Resident Evil
Viewtiful Joe
Devil May Cry
Onimusha
Zelda (Yes, they did develop and port some Zelda handheld games)
Street Figther
Vs. Capcom Series
Breath of Fire
Final Fight
Just to name a few...

they are cheap and easy to make. it just recylces the same gamplay system and characters over and over again but release them under different "colors" (i.e. pokemon series) in order to milk you of your money.
your logic fails. |

I object, sequels are not the same thing as "colors" (e.g. pokmon series). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I do too, the MegaMan series has offered new things and types of game play in the diffrent series. Take MegaMan Legends and MegaMan X for example. |

Depends on how you look at it.
- Mega Man 2 introduced the use of additional systems for special movement (jetpad, hoverpad, and wall climbing pad). Heat Man's special weapon could be charged, too. (Full strength = 1-hit KO against Wood Man). Also of note, Metal Man's saw weapon could kill him in one hit, too.
- Mega Man 3 introduced Protoman, the slide move (down+A) and Rush. The starry background in Gemini Man's stage scrolled with a parallax effect.
- Mega Man 4 introduced the Mega Buster (chargeable normal attack). Pharoah Man's weapon was chargeable as well. First game to feature a different 'fortress' set of levels besides Dr. Wily's.
- Mega Man 5 introduced Beat, and Gryo Man's weapon could be guided manually (up/down after firing). Charge Man's weapon wasn't a weapon per s, but rather modified Megaman's slide move into an attack. Wave Man's stage used parallax scrolling to great effect. Virtually the only MegaMan game without a boss time-freezing attack.
- Mega Man 6 introduced the Rush armor, and had the first triple-phase final boss.
- Mega Man 7, being on the SNES, had significant improvement in the story areas. Also introduced the main bosses in stages -- 4 first, then a story event, then the other 4. Introduced Bass & Treble. Wily's showdown in this game is probably the hardest of them all.
- Mega Man X, new series, new story, again very many improvements over the original. The X Buster gained multiple charge levels (partial/full/hyper), X could ride robot exosuits, climb/slide on walls, and could attack while charging. Introduced X's armor/mobility expansions (dash, armor, helmet, weapon), wide boss arenas (Storm Eagle and Flame Mammoth), the long-jump (dash-jump), all special weapons chargeable (after acquiring the Hyper Buster upgrade) Heart Tanks, and the first super-secret weapon (Ryu's fireball move). Final level was a triple-stage boss fight.
- Mega Man X2 added a special graphics chip for extra visual effects. Introduced the mid-air dash, a new robot suit, secret-hunting helmet. X's hyper shot had a combo effect allowing, it could hit bosses multiple times at once. Introduced the superbosses (Agile, Serges, and whomever the third one was). Also included a super-secret hidden weapon (Ryu's Dragon Punch). First major boss without a visible life meter (final battle Sigma).
- Mega Man X3: Introduced the golden armor enhancements (e.g. double-dash), Zero as an (occasionally) playable character, four different robot suits, more plot-oriented superbosses (Bit, Byte, Vile) and a difficult escape sequence after beating the final boss.
- Mega Man X4: First game on the PSX. X and Zero as playable character with differing gameplay styles and (slightly) different plots and bosses. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

not what i meant. they release two parallel games that are the same (but under different colors; i.e. red and blue). then the sequels are the same game but with different characters and a NEW pair of colors.
parallel games AREN'T sequels in this case. :/ |

Not all paralell releases are "colors", just so you know. Sure, in games like Pokmon (Red/Blue, Gold/Silver) the 'color' differences are pretty much limited to the frequency of wild pokmon encounters, but in some cases, they're actually different games.
Pokmon Ruby/Sapphire, although I can't speak from experience here, feature slightly different plotlines centering around differing antagonists and differing legendary critters.
Or take Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons (which were co-developed by Capcom). They used the same underlying engine, but were two COMPLETELY different games. Different stories, different worlds, levels, bosses, and different secrets. The only things they had in common were a few characters, items, and the ability to "link" from one game to the next to unlock the hidden final boss. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Capcom don't say progression to me, so it's hard to tell exactly where they will go... However, it seems like Capcom will be around forever - there's still a lot of enjoyment to have had from their "simplistic" retro titles.
2D fighting games and side-scrolling adventures should always have a place in gaming. Even if it's a small part, it should be there. So long as there's that hunger for the "old school" Capcom will still be around. |
