Are you kidding me? It's been licensed by ADV for about two years now.

I want to see Tactics. Hoshi Souichirou has a role in it. Sad

Shuffle is still under rated.

No one has commented about it though

DG, I'll have to get back to you on the Tactics scanlations. I read 'em last year on my friend's computer, so she probably has them. I'll ask her to send them for ya.
I'll tell you what's underated, Chronicals of the cursed sword, some people don't even know what that is, even though its not japanese its still manga and it has the potential of an inu yasha like following (i don't know why people like inuyasha in the first place though). So there this manga is SOOOOO underated. Bleach isn't that underrated but i've noticed that there aren't a lot of seldom bleach fans, letting you know^^
OMG, I loved the manga for Chronicles of The Cursed Sword, really nice! My friend claimed it was a bootleg version of Inuyasha.
Bleck.
Bleach is a good manga as well, & I can't say it's underrated wither. Still haven't seen the anime though. . . . .

I think I've at least heard of all the anime/ manga mentioned here...yes, even Shuffle (although I know nothing about it). I think the most underrated anime is Shamanic Princess. Most people don't even know it exists, and those who do mostly don't like it. I think the reasons it never got much popularity were that: 1) it had seriously messed up episode order, with the last two episodes (out of only six!) actually taking place BEFORE the first four, and 2) it was REALLY weird. Which was why I DID like it. It kind of left a lot up to your imagination. But I thought it was really cool.

I remember that! I liked it as well, although, yes, the ova order was messed beyondd compare. I think they were trying to imbue a sense of suspense/mystery by not explaining what had happened in the beginning, but I think that just ended up confusing most people. :/

Quite possibly. I just had fun imagining how everything in their world worked, then wrote it into a fanfic, posted it up here, and moved on... ~.^

So to speak, because Shamanic Princess is still one of my favorites.

We don't watch TV. I don't, anyway. I used to rent a lot of anime, but then I changed to getting raws/subs off torrents. And now I just leech off my friend because my computer can't handle that anymore. 8D

I never get to watch TV because SOMEBODY else in my house always is instead. So everything I know about, I got pretty much the same way Fayore has. If you mean Shamanic Princess specifically, I rented it by coincidence from a Blockbusters near my house. And really loved it.

You find good stuff in the weirdest places...

I believe that most animes are actually, overrated. Everybody hails anime like Monster and Neon Genesis Evanngelion for its story and characters, but compare them with established world literature, like One Hundred Years of Solitude, 1984, and To kill a mockingbird.

Anime's just a refreshing way of telling a story, a different feel than live action/ manga and should be treated as such.

Quite possibly, however, isn't that a little like saying most children's books are overrated because they aren't on the same level as more famous literature? Or that most comics (not just manga) are overrated because they're not on the same level as stuff like the Mona Lisa? Every different level interlinks, but also stands on its own. So therefore, although most anime might be overrated considering so many people (like me) fall in mad obsession with it, it's not technically overrated in the way you say, considering that it's also in a scope of its own.

I'm just gonna talk about mangas here because I'm more familiar...

Most mangas never reach their potential, part of it being an entirely Japanese creation, the Japanese authors are unfamiliar with roman--clef style which are frequently exploited by masterpieces such as the House of Spirits and the Animal farm. In American comics, one title that would be considered roman--clef would be Maus, and I do believe that Maus is one of the best American comics to come out for a long time.

Everybody praises Japanese mangas for diverse storytelling, but it lacks diversity in style (I know someone will compare the art of dragonball Z and loveless here, but I mean something more fundmental than that) and that anime constantly tries to limit animation as much as possible (characters not facing you, the dubbed voices carrying out most of the story). I personally think artists from other countries trying out the manga industry will actually improve its industry. For example, Frderic Boilet's nouveau-manga movement by combining Belgian comic strips (Tin Tin anyone?) and Japanese manga has been praised by critics for being culturally sensitive (rarely ever happens in Japan) and its renewed style of storytelling.

Mangas can be so much more than they are now, and it did have much later start than word-only novels, so we'll see.
Or that most comics (not just manga) are overrated because they're not on the same level as stuff like the Mona Lisa?
Not only is contemporary comics and 500-years old painting completely different in terms of chronological and media factors, I meant that most, if not all mangas can't be compared to handfuls of world literature masterpieces. Although many, many, many manga fans will shove their favorite titles under someone's face claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Sure, mangas have illustrations that accompany their story, but they once again, can't compete in that aspect with Japanese and Global graphic designers who specializes in that field.

Indeed. That being said, Cybersix is still one of my favourite cartoons. I still like it much more than a lot of the anime I've seen. :)

A pity it seems like most people don't know about it.

Yeah, I'll definitely agree that you won't see manga being able to compete with classics at the present time. And I also definitely agree that they can be much more than they are now. I just didn't agree with your saying that they were mostly overrated.

So I guess we shall ocean what we shall ocean, hmm? ^.^ It'll be fun to see.

I totally agree with the cybersix comment!! I loved that show, especially the beginning music, i even remember the words!! Back to subject hmmm... I'd say "alchino" is sort of underated, its not really anyones favorite manga, it's just there, the art is exquisite, so much detail so yeah, i'd say alchino^^
