I just read the whole book of this last night, and it is amazing. It's written from the point of view of an autistic boy around my age (which would be like 15). My cousin suggested it to me because she works with autistc kids.
The point of the book is that he's trying to find out who killed the neighbour's dog, but for a lot of it he goes of on little speils talking about insignificant things, like why he doesn't like the colour yellow and such like.
It is really interesting. Touching and hilarious at the same time, it gives you a lot of insight into the mind of an autistic child. _________________ |

I really enjoyed it when I read it, and have recommended it to quite a few people.
I do get a little hacked off when I read misleading comments about it in the media - it isn't an automatic gateway to understanding every person with autism, as certain sources imply. But that's the fault of journalists, not the book itself, which really makes it clear that Christopher is an individual.
And if you enjoy this type of book I'd recommend Stuck in Neutral by Terry Trueman. It came out a few years before The Curious Indident, but got very little acclaim. It's told from the point of view of a young man with Cerebral Palsy, who has a fully functioning mind but cannot control his movements, so can't ever tell anyone that he's aware. |
