Here's the article. Read it first, if you want, so you know what the hell I'm talking about. I'd paste it, but it's kinda long.

VH1's Future

Anyway, my thoughts....

This sucks. The same exact thing is going to happen to VH1 that happened to MTV. At least you had a pretty good chance of turning on VH1 and seeing something related to music, whereas on MTV you're more likely to see beautiful housemates in Vegas or trying to do some stunt. I LIKED BEHIND THE MUSIC. Granted, there was a good chance of flipping channels and seeing BTM: Poison (saw it just the other day, actually), but that's because it was one of the best done episodes (along with Motley, Ozzy, and that rapper guy who got shot, according to their marathon). There are tons of other groups they could do, but it's a matter of finding ones who are willing to do more than talk shit about each other for an hour.

I Love the 80s...really cool. The first ten times. I Love the 70s...Ok. Still cool. I Love the 80s Strikes Back...yeah, still good. But I love the 90s?! How much can anyone miss the 90s after four years? A lot of those groups are still popular or well remembered. Do they expect people to sit around and fondly remember things they haven't seen for six years? Oh the memories...

That Best Week show thing I haven't seen much of because it always looks lame.

The best things I've seen recently have been that show where they did the cartoons of musicians (like Michael Jackson's face falling off, Axl working at McDonald's, all that good stuff). I taped those. And You Rock With _____ was/is awesome. If they want to do more "shows", why not things like that? Fans getting a chance to perform with their favorite groups or other event-ish, "Bands Reunited" type stuff? Granted one was with their old standby Poison (and I didn't care for their guitarist choice, either), but at least it was music related and a neat semi-reality show. Does the world really need another E! channel, even if it's supposedly going to be mostly music?

It always sucks when they try to "fix" channels. That's exactly why MTV sucks now, you know. The original staff got too "old" and out of it, so they were all cleaned out and new, young, "hip" people brought in to keep the channel "fresh". And it just so happens that was right before the channel went to hell. They start with music, then move on to music-related shows, then more entire pop culture shows, then regular cable crap. So much for VH1 being the last basic cable channel still standing. Sad

Anyone out there wanna start a music channel that kindly remains music? Please? Grr! (I don't get Fuse...heard it's decent) XM radio fixed that crap, time to move on to television I say!

I would help you start an all music channel! Very Happy

Seriously, though, I think its too bad that VH1 thinks they have to change their format to get more popular. I dont get cable or satellite or anything, so I dont worry about reruns or what MTV is showing, but I do occasionally watch those channels when I travel. I saw that I Love the 80s: '89 show and it was pretty funny! If they want to get more attention, they should try NEW ideas (like MTV origonally did with Real World), and not turn to an already proven format. And if I could think of any new ideas for them, Ill let you know, but nothings coming to mind. Sad Ah well, those people are getting paid, they should be able to come up with something.

And the fact that they dont have any "appoitment viewing" is kind of the beauty of VH1. I could not watch them for a few months, see a few days of them, and not feel like I was missing anything.

Exactly! The shows were entertaining without being sitcom-ish where if I missed an episode, I had no idea what was going on. I like all their shows that have separate topics/groups for each one. The fact they just now realized that remembering the "good old days" gets ratings is terrifying because you know what will happen now....it will be nothing but "remember this!" and "remember that!", just like MTV has a billion reality shows after Real World took off. Sad sad sad.

Ah, that already exists in that "greatest week ever" show, where they talk about the week before "I love the ____" style. Honestly, does anyone need to remember last week? Let the people who missed it watch E! or, I don't know, check out that handy website they're always shoving in your face for all the news vh1.com.

Lol, I fergot about that show. Watched a litle bit of it, got bored and confused, and left to go watch something else. I thought that it would be about the "best week of the *insert random year*". So it confused me when they talked about stuff that happened a few days ago..... Uneasy

As if we don't have to hear about those events twenty other times, now they want to give you the opinion of someone you've never heard of on the subject. Thrilling.

*le sigh* poor, poor vh1. poor, poor music television! i like the "i love the __" shows, as well as the video and artist countdowns, but i also liked vh1 b/c it would actually show music videos. i wish i got fuse.

i also liked the "no appointed programming" thing, b/c vh1 was great to watch at any time. even if nothing else was on, there'd be a good chance i could turn to a good countdown or interesting behind the music. i also used to love the "movies that rock" (whatever happened to those? they should show them more!). feh but i really don't want it to follow in mtv's footsteps and only show one kind of program. nostalgia's cool, and all, but not 24/7. what's the point of making music videos if there isn't any music television? i think this is all just some conspiracy cooked up by greedy record companies who intend to prophet from the increase in music video dvd sales since no one can watch them on tv.

lol and yea the "best week ever" thing is kinda weird. too repetitive to hear stuff about something that just happened a few days ago. and what? "i love the 90s?" haha i imagined them doing that a few years from now when i'd be an adult and would think "o yea... i remember that... and aww that was so cool" and whatnot, like my parents do now for "i love the 70s." but doing it now takes the fun out of it. i love 90s nostalgia (third eye blind? clarissa explains it all? button-down plaid shirts?), but it's way too early. ahh well its all the more incentive to retreat into my cocoon of old movies and tv shows...

They still do Movies That Rock every now and then. The two newest have been The Full Monty and Rockstar. I catch Empire Records sometimes. Why don't they ever show "This is Spinal Tap" as a movie that rocks? Sad It's a hundred times better than that eye candy with no plot piece of crap, "Rockstar". The one I wish they'd stop showing is that one about the Jackson family. <_<

I can just see I Love the 90s now... $20 says there's gonna be a bunch of pop-punk kids on there kissing Kurt Cobain's ass. Ten minutes right there of "a revolutionary!" "Brilliant!" "My inspiration!". I Love the 90s right here: Nirvana. Club music. Rap. Boybands. Oh yeah, I wanna watch ten hours of that. Surprised The 90s sucked, and everyone knows it. The death of mainstream everything.

Or is it that everything went so mainstream that everyone got so sick of it? (reality shows, anyone? <_< )

That's true. It was also the death of just about every entertainment industry. Television industry, well, you've seen where that is and is headed. And I think we all know where the music industry is with all these put together bands, American Idol, and ten minute no-talent superstars. Money money money. Everyone out for a buck. Don't blame 'em, but don't particularly like 'em either.
