I love a lot of bands that nobody has heard of. I really like industrial, unusual, and underground music, so I decided to list some of the lesser known things I listen to.
If anyone has any underground stuff they listen to, I'd love to hear it. Or just anything they think is cool..
Juno Reactor
Godspeed you Black Emporer
Alena Apina
Covenant
Elbow (especially the Independant women song..)
The Future Sound of London
Nightwish
One Up Studios (for game music.)
Ruki Vverh
Seabound
Stomken
::wumpscut::
X Japan

hmm i don't know any of those bands, but i've heard of juno reactor, also.
uhh i like a lot of underground punk-type bands- i'm not sure how popular they are actually, but most of my friends haven't heard of them. Also, i'm really kind of oblivious to what music is more well-known, so you might have heard of these bands....
Boink!
The Goops
The Reunion Show
Brigade Rosse
The Partisans
Flip the Switch
The Exploding Hearts
Fu Manchu
Harvey Danger (um i think they're kinda popular b/c their one song "Flagpole Sitta" is on some soundtracks and stuff, but no one actually knows who they are)
The Hellacopters
Mustard Plug
Dead Milkmen
The Network (they're actually green day with a different name or something)
Stiff Little Fingers
Switched
that's all i can think of- um several of these bands are from mp3.com, so some of them might be local bands (sorry i don't know which are)

I can honestly say I've never heard of any of those bands. Well, a couple sound kinda familiar, but I may be thinking of something else I heard of.
I don't really listen to much underground current stuff, but I'm sure I listen to a lot of bands (some of which used to be at least semi-big) that no one's ever heard of. Pardon my shameless promotion, but anything to help my boys sell a few more records.
Faster Pussycat - biggest hit (does the fact they have hits mean they don't count? Oh well, blow me): "House of Pain" ('I didn't write these pages and my script's been rearranged, oh there's no one home in my house of pain')
Samantha 7 - C.C. DeVille of Poison fronts/ed the band, so the members aren't completely unknown, but the band is. Their awesome debut barely sold 5,000 copies. And I have a little internet downloading rant that always goes with that, but I'll spare you. Sammy 7 is great, pop-power-punk as C.C. puts it. Their debut's still on most store shelves. And demos are here! http://www.samantha7.com/news.html
Ashba - I'm sure at least some of you have heard of Beautiful Creatures, and Dj Ashba used to be in that band. Then he kinda did a solo thing for awhile, and now he's put together a new band, Ashba. There's song samples at http://www.ashbaland.com by clicking on "Dj TV" near the bottom. Really really good, and the demos are free, so check it out. I showed Kate, and she loves him and will hurt you if you don't.
Metal Shop - They play the Sunset Strip and are carrying the glam metal torch proudly. They just put out a really funny debut, Hole Patrol, with hilarious songs. Available in the merch section here.
Danger Danger - Old band. Awesome singer.
BulletBoys - I shouldn't admit I like them, but I do and won't deny it. Another awesome singer.
TUFF - All I can say about them is they rock, and for Stevie: "Sellin' my s**t 'cause I'm not ashamed. Buy the TUFF box set at http://www.tuffcds.com !"
There's about 50 other glam bands I could name, but I'm lazy. Maybe I'll continue this list later (without the promotion, I swear! Sammy 7! ok, that was the last one )

haha most of those bands were unknown to me until you talked about them, fallen. sooo i'd say
hmm i dont know the specific definition of underground. umm the way i was thinking of it was bands that weren't really on the radio and were on minor record labels- basically unknown bands, like "underground punk bands". but now that i think of it is underground actually a genre of music? like ska or rock and whatnot? hmm sorry if i got the definition wrong in my previous post. uhhh Rayne could you please explain what you meant? _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

Underground's not a genre...I don't think. 'Cause any genre band could be an underground band.
In my opinion, I've always considered underground to be any band that's not mainstream. Local bands, bands on minor record labels with next to no radio play except in their home towns, club bands, etc. And lately with the internet, bands that have a large online following.

I don't even know any of the local bands around here. One played in the talent show and were B.A.D.. Extremely. The drummer couldn't keep time with a watch, and the guitarist sounded like he was raping a cat. The bassist was the only decent one in the group....not even mentioning the singer. The song they wrote had one line over and over "White guys got no rythm." No, it's just YOU four white guys that have no rythm. Then they brought out a bunch of guys dancing badly to try and cover up the fact they sucked and no one was digging it.
It's kinda funny, though, because there's such a huge lacking of decent musicians in this town, any good bassists/guitarists/drummers end up playing in two or three bands. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

At my school, there is one particularly good band, The Johnson Borthers Band. They can't sing very well, but they have a great lead guitarist. He can play Led Zepplin like no other. Jake Johnson is lead Guitar, Bobby Johnson is... bass, i think, Dylan Kraus is Drums. They may have someone else. But Jake is godly with his guitar.
I'm in Pittsburgh, PA, where Anti-Flag started out. Anyone ever heard of them? I dunno where else has heard of them, but they're a great punk band from Fat Wreck Chords records. |
