Just from having played ToS on my friend's Gamecube, I'm sorely tempted to buy a Gamecube so I can play it myself ~.^ I can't find it anywhere for PS2, and I heard they messed up the battle system on the transfer. (shrug) Oh well. It's a moot point right now, since I only have two bucks ~.^

Really? No kidding they took their time. Honestly, that seems kind of like a Disgaea OVA--why bother? The game's enough of an OVA in itself ~.^

I finally got money (graduation is a wonderful thing) and ended up succumbing to temptation and buying myself a Gamecube. I'm rhapsodizing Symphonizing, now. Just got to Tethe'alla with Colette's Friendship First title...God, was that a pain to get, since I was shooting for Genis' I Hate Gels! at the same time...

And also! Envy me, for I found at a GameStop not only Tales of Destiny, but Tales of Destiny 2! YAY!! I'm happy ^.^ Among the best sixty bucks I ever spent ~.^

Tales of Symphonia is my favorite rpg. period.

And i know it wasn't your intention, amerowolf, but i just want to say right now, to all tales fans, that this Symphonia we're talking about, so please don't come in here with yo' legendia hate. I love that game and everyone in it, but i digress.

The beauty of this game is this ...

granted, they had to make things ambigous enough in certain parts of the story so that they wouldn't have to change much, the 'end' end varies slightly depending on your soulmate. The charas never get to terribly involved so as not to condradict any of your 'choices'

I Myself have managed To create the unheard of LloydxRegal for the main pairing in my save file.

now regal's like 35, so they obviously handled him differently than the others.

among my party, i have also managed to pair up RainexSheena, and genis colette presea and zelos are ambiguous.

the affection system's pretty cut and dry, but how i actually managed to boost my party member's affection for one another is beyond me.

it doesn't affect the story(unless they are paired with lloyd) in any way, it's just for fun. a way you can tell is in battle, if someone dies, and someone else is like "AArrrghhh nooo" then they're an item, so to speak. in addition there are predetermined relationships as well, raine and genis as siblings, and regal beig al pent up about presea's sister and his guilt trip, elos loving all the ladies, ect.

^ Yeah, ToS -is- a great game, it kindof reminded me of Star Ocean 2 in the way people's reactions can differ during battle and in events-Though Star Ocean's was way more in depth. One time, this guy (It may have been Dias, I can't recall that accurately) laughed when Claude died.

Ah, God, I hate the Mandragoras ^.^ No, my favorite was when I first used Item Thief and Colette just...fell. Flat on her face. I couldn't believe that she actually had an [i]attack[/i] where she used clumsiness as a weapon. That was brilliant.

So was watching nurses run onto the field with Raine's Nurse spell, and using Holy Judgment for the first time and going, "WHAT THE BLOODY HELL WAS THAT?!?!"

I loved Star Ocean 2 as well... <3 Leon was my favorite. The only thing was, I wish they had had some better battle quotes for some of the characters. Particularly Celine. I don't think she says "Darling" once in battle, which disappoints me greatly. She has such a definite, lovable persona out of battle that doesn't really follow her into it.

But Dias laughing at Claude dying? Yeah, I bet he did ^.^ I wonder if he'll ever groan when you revive him?

Oy i hate it when people compare this to Star ocean. I always knew they where too similar at times. I have never heard the likes of star ocean until it's third installment, and i think that it's a sweet series, although i prefer tales in terms of story and character development. since this isn't tales V. Star ocean, i'll get back on topic before i digress any further.

I'm not sure but i heard over at Deviant that A tales of Symphonia OVA may be in the works. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

I think the Character relationship thing in ToS was pretty good, but the fact it didn't change much beyond who gets kidnapped in that one situation and who's standing by your door at the end of the end of the game in the actual outcome of the story kindof made it a fruitless effort. :X

true, but anything to get colette off of lloyd. She's a nice person, and a good character, but the
'can-this-girl-be-any-more-saintly' X 'can-this-boy-be-any-stupider' pairing has been driven into the ground for a long time now.

In terms of pairings, if you don't mind me being so bold as to go "lol yaoi!!1" on you, I like the Relationship between Lloyd and Regal myself. :B When not in a sordid way, I think they have a nice Role Model/Father-Son type thing going. It's cute how Lloyd can honestly look up to someone without the "lol he's cool but i'm not saying!!!" thing he had with Kratos coming into play. XO

Yes, Regal be awesome. Personally, it's not to get Colette off Lloyd--it's to get Lloyd off of Colette. Colette I adore. Lloyd...more "eh" over. I'd rather stick Lloyd with Sheena and leave Zelos out in the cold --.-- Sorry, but Zelos bugs me. A LOT. And I think Lloyd and Sheena would make an excellent couple ^.^ As long as Sheena stays away from Colette, `cause whenever Colette's around Sheena...Sheena gets hurt. It's kind of sad.

Colette is kind of a saintly character, but the fact that she's strong as well makes me love her. If she was really as ditzy as she seemed, she'd be totally cliche. But in her case, a lot of the ditziness is really just her acting. Not the clumsiness--don't get me wrong, that Klutz title is well deserved--but the ditziness? She's really not quite as typical genki-anime-girl as she seems.

I'll stop rhapsodizing now ^.^

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love Collete. X3 I have a thing for characters like that-and without her there wouldn't be much of a driving force for the story. I just have a hard time imagining her in a relationship, even with Lloyd. :X

I like Zelos myself, he's a classic example of a "More than he lets on" character. I think the only girl he truly loves is his sister, he just seems to enjoy making women laugh and smile. :] On the topic of Seles, damn..you're cute, act like it! Dx The one-sidedness of their relationship made the "Bad Zelos Ending" one of the most emotionally charged-and memorable scenes in the game, I just never would've thought her to be so spiteful in the end Neutral

(Or maybe I'm just denying it 'cause Seles is so damn cute. *haha*)

I wouldn't know about the battle system, but that might be because that game was only released on the PS2 in Japan. 8D

[RANDOM INFORMATION] The actual Tales of Destiny 2 was never released in NA (it's a PS2 game!) - when it was brought over, it was actually some other Tales game (Tales of Eternia, I think?), just renamed ToD2. :X I think I'll just wait for the PS2 version of ToD to come out before I buy it. :X eBay prices are nuts sometimes.

LOL SO2. I played up until the second disk then dropped it. Something along the lines of, "wtf, the planet just blew up. What the hell." I guess you could say that I was fed up with Claude's inane stupidity. 8D

+thankful for ova. Maybe now I'll be able to understand a little of what you guys are talking about. I'm sure it'll be great; the Tales of Phantasia one was fantastic. :B

If anyone's played Evolution and/or Evolution 2, does ToS remind you of those games?

It's hard for me...bosses kill me...maybe I just suck at playing, but, anyhoo!

This is one of the few games that really make me laugh. The Skits are hilarious and so are the costumes (except Lloyd's, his is fine). Guys in pink and purple, ahaaaa...

Actually, I'm not that far yet, only on first disk and at second battle with Sheena. So, I think that I just read some spoilers... Shocked

And no, ToS doesn't remind me much of Evolution...I liked Evolution, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as ToS. I can't see many similarities, actually, except for the color of the two main characters' hair (Mag and Lloyd, Linear and Colette).

Besides, if Colette was throwing exploding boxes, then the world would have blown up just like Expel in SO2 already... ^.^

Speaking of SO2, Claude wasn't [i]that [/i]stupid. Well, not compared to Lloyd, anyways. Like in that skit where Lloyd uses a four-syllable word or something, and Raine almost has a heart attack and starts gushing: "I didn't even know you knew that word! You even used it properly!" And Lloyd's all, "It's not [i]that [/i]big a deal!" And you're just kind of going, "Yeah, it is, Lloyd...yeah, it is..."[/i]

... I don't know, having never played ToS. All I know is, "Claude don't touch it!" "WUT I CAN DO THIS JUST AS GUD AS U GAISE CAAAAN *touch*" warrants a "HOMG MORON" in my books. 8D

My advice: keep the AI on "conserve MP" till you get to bosses, then change it to "attack all out/use lots of MP/whatever it is" when you enter battle with the boss. Alternatively, if you're still having a bit of trouble, assume manual control of your characters. :0 Oh, and turn off all the lame spells in your arsenal.

Of course, these are tactics I used in ToP; not sure how effective they'd be in ToS.

Ohhh...yeah. I put the computer-controlled characters on moderation and stuff for their TP skills, it's slightly been helping. Y'know, I should save more often. Went through a whole dungeon, defeated the boss (after using a lot of Life Potions), and got killed by Sheena...without saving at all. I felt so frustrated afterwards, but my dad took me to Costco and I had fun!!! Very Happy

Oh, and the similarities that I saw between Evolution and ToS were the dungeons, treasure, the way you get into battles. It just had that feel for me.

Hmm...not so much for me.

And yeah, Fayore, if you ever do play ToS, you'll be set. That's pretty much the kind of strategy you need.

Another thing that helps out, though, is getting better titles for your characters. That makes them stronger every time they level up and in turn makes the rest of the game just a bit easier. Good ones early on are Berserker for Lloyd (fight enemies 256 times in Hard mode--go somewhere with weak enemies first, though) and Little Pickpocket for Colette (use Item Thief 400 times, which is actually not as impossible as it sounds).

And of course, if all else fails...level up ~.^

Which characters are you fighting with, and who do you usually control in battle, if you don't mind my asking?

LOL. How does it feel to win an internet? 8D

My party usually goes like Lloyd>Zelos>Raine>Genis. Sometimes I kick out Zelos for another character I want to play with (usually either Collete or Presea-- And I use them myself. Lloyd's fine on his own 8D), but that's the party I tend to beat the game with. This playthrough I want to pimp Regal :>
