It's not awesome. Like on certain parts of the site the site will slowwwww down and it will just stop working. and then if you click onto something else it speeds up and then slows down. Sad

Denis do you need another site transfer?

As the site grows it slows.

changes are comming that will allow it to handle the load better.

Good thing is they should come around the end of the year....bad part, is traffic will go up about 30% before that when school gets out for christmas.

I still have the idea that all the old members, who havent been active for over 6 months should get an email saying that their accounts will be deleted, whoever cares about their account will come back. The accounts wich don't respond to the email should be deleted with all their images and stories, that would make the site's pretty faster since theres less information....

Sure, a few less pictures to enumerate when you view categories, a few less gallery pages to generate... but the overall increase in speed would be negligible.

Indeed, since the speed problem has always been about how many people are [i]looking[/i], not how much info needs to be stored. Delete the pictures, people are just going to look at something else.

Purging... That would free up some space, but like everyone else has said, that won't help much with speed [bandwidth] issues. If a thread is ancient and no one looks at it anymore, deleting it won't do anything for speed simply because, well, [i]no one looks at it[/i]. :/ And bandwidth costs money, hence why there's so many ads around the site. More bandwidth = more ads, no? Really, it's up to Denis what to do about it. :/ I believe that we've already discussed alternate methods to raise more money for FAC, but they haven't gone anywhere. :/

Bandwidth does cost money.

Bandwidth isn't the speed issue, its processing power.

Purging some forum posts can help speed some by lowering the database size (smaller, less memory and less processing to do stuff like searches and sorts). Sandbox has already gotten some purging and other places will later on.
