I have a few favorite pieces of clothing that I add to my characters when I'm drawing.
1) Gloves. Black ones usually, fingerless. No matter what, I always have to have more then one character wearing them. Like my character Ray.
2) Hooped earrings. Large ones, that gyspies usually wear. Usually gold colored. Again, I point to Ray.
3) Sleeveless shirts. I have more then 8 characters that are sleeveless. I can't stand drawing sweaters, or even T-shirts for that matter. *sigh* I'm talking about Ray again.
4) Flared pants/jeans. I'm wearing some right now. Most of my characters wear flared pants/jeans. And yes, Ray wears flared pants.
Ray wears all of my favorite pieces of clothing. *thinks for a moment*
Why am I always talking about Ray? _________________ It took me about ten minutes to defeat Giga Bowser, Ganondorf, and Mewtwo from Super Smash Brothers Melee using Peach.
How long did it take my brother to defeat those characters using Yoshi? Two minutes.
I like to obsess over stuff. Here are all the things I'm obsessing over:
Song: Seize the Day by Default
Anime: D.Gray Man
Anime character(s): Kanda
Video Game: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Video Game character: Wolf O-Donnell from Star Fox Assault
OC: Ray Eclrida, copyright of me (duh!)

I never understood perverted mens' fascination with girls wearing highschool uniforms :/ I really like girls/women in suits, (business suits) though. ^_^ _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Cloaks and capes! Absolutely. First off, they're easy to draw, second, drawing fold are fun, third they block the other shirts and pants which means less drawing (I know I'm just being lazy, but that's me) |

Most of my characters are sort of Mod, so I'll put them in minidresses or go-go boots. _________________ |

I like drawing huge fuzzy socks, they're fun.
I agree with your, Brian. The perverse fanboys's regard of uniforms is, well, perverse. I think they're fun to design, but when you've got someone bursting out of a top, that's just dumb. |

Layering on any article of clothing, like a tank top on top of a striped sweater..:3 _________________ |

Oh, Brad you're right. Layering is fun. I like leg warmers, too, lol. I'm such an eighties geek. |

Cloaks, capes, and long jackets are evil. I can never get the folds to look right. I'm fond of drawing hoodies, jeans, chunky shoes, and random accessories. Any excuse to add striped articles of clothing is good too. I heart scarves. |

Jewelry. I remembered today that I like random jewelery to hang from clothing/body parts. Sometimes that's the only thing they're wearing--the dangling jewelery. I ought to upload that picture. |

I have this fascination with things that flow, so my personal favourites are scarves and capes. I love ribbons, too, but since the majority of my subjects are male, I can't exactly get a lot with using as much ribbon as I'd like... Or maybe too much ribbon...
And then, for characters that don't happen to be fantasy-oriented, I love baggy clothing. So they usually get big turtlenecks. <3 Or hoodies. _________________

oh yeah, scarves, there's something about them that makes even the toughest looking character look "soft" or "on our side" I use it for my evil antagonist _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Boots are always fun to draw. You have the laces, the extended tounge and ankle, the chunky sole, all that good stuff. _________________ |

QUOTE (Animemaster2334) | I do have a fetish for dragon wings but those aren't an article of clothing now are they..
No, but they would require altering the upper-body clothing to allow those extra limbs, you know? ;)
As a creature artist, you know I don't drape clothes over the creatures I draw But in those times I do, unless I have a specific design to follow, I try to choose something that feels coherent with the type of character/creature portrayed:
http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-129798.html
Theme: Natural
Clothes: Cape/mantle
http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-123043.html
Theme: Modern military
Clothes: Formal shirt (with accommodation for wings), standard jeans and shoes/boots
http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-127992.html
Theme: FF7 Yuffie
Clothes: Tank-top, short shorts, and a mantle over her left arm
http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-129975.html
Theme: Standard Fantasy/RPG
Clothes: Leather shirt, jeans, boots, mantle over left side
http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-144147.html
Theme: Floral
Clothes: (a specific design supplied by the requestor)
http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-178843.html
Theme: Zeliard PC game
Clothes: All referenced from the game - blue platemail with gold trim, red helmet with white decor, brown boots, green undertunic and Asbestos Cape (an item from the game).
http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-218640.html
Theme: Modern Aquatic
Clothes: Spandex
Apparently I've used clothing designs more often than I thought I did. But each one's a different story, so ultimately I don't have a common 'theme' for them. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Strata has a good point. Dressing to match a character is rather important.
Scarves are indeed the greatest things. I like them, but I can't draw them worth crap, lol. |

Scarves are my PG-13 answer to ribbons. I absolutely love loose clothing that flows, so nearly all my OCs are drawn with scarves (and likely capes, too, but I don't tend to do them often anymore because they're getting rather cliched...), and since they're most likely some type of magic-user, a cloak/robe, as well...
And then on the flip side, I love playing with armor. Paladin. Awesome. Perfect excuse to use an obscene amount of symbolic crosses on a man wearing something that looks kinda like a cross between armor and a skirt.
I've done woolen scarves too, but not often because I tend to draw fantasy. And my character illustrations tend to be in the spring time, not winter...
But scarves. I love making things flow, but the logical side of me hates drawing things just kinda "floating" (isn't that twisted? I love magic but I hate illogical things...), so I tend to throw wind into the picture, too. An excuse for long, messy hair. That flows. <3 _________________
