Seeing Suikoden Tactics be out has caused me to ruminate about the old Suikoden games, and ruminating about them has made me want to talk about them. My favorite Suikoden was Suikoden 2...I thought that was a fantastic game. Interesting story, colorful characters (and with 108 of them, that's no mean feat,) and an oddly addictive battle system--yeah, I loved Suikoden 2.

I was wondering what your thoughts on the Suikoden games were--any of the games, from Suikoden 1 up to the new Suikoden Tactics. Does anybody else even remember them, or am I alone in my pointless daydreaming?

I was just waiting for someone to post a Suikoden thread. It's too popular of a series not to have a thread sooner or later. 8D

Sadly, I haven't played any of the main Suikoden games (DX); just Rhapsodia. Which I liked a lot (although it was so goddamn short DX), so I'm hoping to get my hands on some of the other Suikoden games. :0

I loved Suikoden 2 and 3. 1 was okay, and 4 was kinda "ehh..." So if you get the chance, play 2 or 3.

I heard that the storyline wasn't so great in IV. [s]Which was why they made Rhapsodia.[/s]

I've only played IV and it rocked my world. You get to sail the ocean like a pirate, build and army, and you get to duel. Yes, real sword duels, the ultimate stylized cool. The character designs are also unbelievably great. When I was playing this it felt like I was in a Pirates of the Carribean Movie. This game got slammed by the critics but I don't care it's still one of my favourites.

I got IV a while back. It was pretty good. Some of my older gaming friends recommended I try the older ones. So I was able to get myself a copy of Suikoden and Suikoden II. I recently started playing the first one, and I really like it. ^_^

Suikoden I was decent, there were a lot of good characters on there. One thing that annoyed me about that game was the noise it made everytime someone joined the party O_o

Suikoden II is my favorite because it has my three favorite characters from the Suikogames: Sid, Stallion, and *cough* Templeton.

Suikoden III was awesome because when I got bored with one character I could just switch to another at some point heh.

Suikoden IV was boring to me :\

Suikoden 2 has my favorite characters as well--Sierra, Kinnison, Karen, Rina, Rikimaru, Nanami, Milly, Nina, Sasuke, Tomo...the list just goes on and on. I really liked Morgan in Suikoden 1, and I loved Hugo, Lilly, and Watari in 3, but I didn't think 4 had as good of characters as the first ones. Although I did like Rita, Keneth, and Elenor quite a bit.

The thing I really didn't like about 4 was that it changed the battle system drastically, and rather for the worse in my opinion. I think Suikoden 2 has the best battle system--it's fast-paced, but gives you time to breathe; it's strategic, but not to the point where it makes your head hurt; you get six characters, unlike in 4; and you actually got to control what your characters did, unlike in 3. Plus that game had the best Unite Attacks of them all. Nina and Flik's Groupie Attack was the funniest thing ever.

What other characters do you guys who have played them like?

Kyril was so strong, but I hated the OMFG I CANT KILL IT mentality he had towards fishmen for most of the game. :/ Had to work harder with other characters. xD Andarc I liked, as well. He wasn't the strongest out there, but he had glasses! <3 and then I had a multitude of other characters I liked, but I can't remember their names for the life of me. DX

The thing I liked best about 4 was the introduction of Nay-Kobolds. I love cat-people, and for Suikoden they were way overdue ^.^ The thing I liked the least was that there were no krakens. They had krakens in 2, why not in 4? Grr!

Is Suikoden Tactics any good? Should I get it or not?

Rhapsodia! DX [s]Because "Suikoden Tactics" is a dumb name! DX[/s]

I liked it quite a bit. [s]Then again, I'm an SRPG whore...[/s] My major complaint about it, though, was that I finished the game in 20 hours, and 10 of those hours were purely dedicated to levelling up. :< Extremely short game. But then again, I hear that it's supposed to be a supplement to IV's storyline, and that's all. And since I haven't played IV... xD The ending had a small, almost cliched twist to it. :0 S'alright, though.

You might be better off just renting the game than buying it, imo.

Yeah...I forget, why'd they changed Rhapsodia to Suikoden Tactics? The name had a better ring to it ^_^

I think I played the game when I was younger, don't have to much memory of it. I wouldn't mind trying it again.

Suikoden Tactics isn't the same game as Rasphody though...is it. Unless my mind's been wraped into some multi-dimensional playing feild...

The Japanese name of that game is Rhapsodia, but the American name is Suikoden Tactics. I just wanted to know why they couldn't keep Rhapsodia as the name ^^;

:teach:

As for the actual reason for the name change, I have no idea. They probably just wanted people to be sure that it was part of the Suikoden series. :0

Is possible. Seems like a waste of a really good title, though (Rhapsodia is so cool-sounding).

Does anybody know anything about the Suikogaiden games?
