It was awesome, I mean can you really expect less from a Stephen King film, and the whole thing with shooter... that was brilliant. I have to say though, I was a bit disturbed at the end the close up of the corn. *shudders* it just disturbed me. it wasn't the fact that it grew from his wife's body, but it was just *cringes* It was unnerving... I dont' know why...

My friend didn't like it, and told me not to waste my money.

But I did anyway. ^.^;

Well, now that it's out on DVD and VHS... I think I'll put my input on the movie... this is a post I put up on ImDb.com and I want to share it with all of you, about the end change

Okay, I'm a total fan JD; So when I saw the trailer I said, "okay, I'll go see this, it looks fun..." I of course knew it was based on Stephen King (It just had the King 'aura' to it) so I went to go pick up a copy at my local Books-A-Million (You gotta love that plugging!)

So I picked up a copy of "Four Past Midnight" to see what the movie was going to be like... who else has done this?

SPOILERS!!! Like Any of you haven't seen the movie yet...
In the book Mort gets SHOT, by some... insurance guy after trying to kill Amy... and dies, after of course, going insane. In the movie he ends up killing Amy and good-ol' Ted, again after going insane. Different ended? What is up with that? I feel they both are a plenty fine endings (which is the most important part of the story right?) but I liked the movie ending BETTER. That surprized me... I was one of the fans of LOTR that got totally upset about no Tom Bombadil... I hate it when evil movie people change books.

I liked the movie ending better because (I had the feeling when reading the novella) Mort is the main character, and readers (or viewers) get attached to the protagonist during the course of the book/film, so I was literly devestated when I read that Mort died (It made me so sad I cried...) I then got over it when they didn't kill the character I loved so much (plus the added fact that he was JD) in the movie (But he still did kill two MORE people). Happiess and bunnies for me.

More Thoughts
Another thing that I personally had the feeling was that in the novella Mort/Shooter was getting back at himself for plaguerism in his past, which is completely skipped over in the movie. The the movie however, I felt that Shooter was created subconsciously to fix Mort's problems (because Mort clearly wasn't going to do anything about it) under the air of plaquerism (The story is a dead give away, what with the murdering of the evil hated ex-wife) Mort's problem in the movie was Amy... or dealing with her and the mess of his divorce.

Sorry for the rant...

Teehee, two parts made me laugh, the part where he is like about to pass out and the camera just pans to a squirrel for no reason! And the end when he just takes a huge bite of corn, I was laughing so hard, everyone thought I was nuts. Laughing

Then again, that John Shooter guy did a hell of a lot better than Jhonny Depp. Great Southern, Mississippi accent and well, he was just creepy o_O

John Turturro (Shooter) was Pete in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and whenever he spoke I just kept thinking about horny toads and the KKK. (see the movie if you don't know what I'm talking about)

But what was the deal with that damn squirrel? When I saw that in the theater I was like, "OH MY GOD!! THE SQUIRREL KILLED THEM!!!" Laughing

I also think that they had the worst last scene of a movie ever. Don't get me wrong, the ending in itself was good, but I don't want an extreme-close-up of Johnny's mouth to be the last thing I see in a movie. They should have ended it with, like a scene of Shooter's hat or the shovel or -- ooh ooh, I just came up with this one -- Mort's book suddenly slams shut and it's the story that he wrote about killing his wife....

*looks around hopefully*

...Okay, I'll shut up.

Had Johnny Depp not been the star of that movie, I bet that no one would have seen it. It was alright, Depp's acting helped it A LOT, but the ending was truly horrid. Stephen King needs to work on his writing me thinks.

Yeah, that pretty much solves it. I want to see it, but have got the time to do it yet. And yeah, deffinietly one reason why I want to see it is because of Johnny.
But I thought that he was HALLARIOUS in Pirates of the Carribean, so that's one reason I want to see him in SW, not just because he's hot....

Hmm... yeah... as I said earlier, Stephen King doesn't like to write happy endings. In the book Mort dies.... but in the movie it's not King's ending, so it's not his fault. Razz
