I've gotten on a kick lately of trying to track down those old video games from my lost childhood. You know, the ones that give you a warm feeling inside when you think of them. Not so much for the games themselve, mind you, but just for the history around them. For instance:

I recently got ahold of X-COM: UFO Defense, an old turn-based strategy game that ran on DOS. Me and my little brother would take turns playing this on our dinosaur of a computer when we were tykes, trading strategies and wowing each other with our war stories.

I'm also looking for Jurassic Park II for SNES. This one was made long before there actually was a Jurassic Park II of any kind, and the story centers around Grant and this other guy from stopping Biosyn from taking over the island. It was fun as hell and me and my best friend would spend hours in his basement playing it. I want that feeling again. Sad

Anyways, what are some of your old games that you would love to have again?

That's what emulators are for. Smile For SNES, I recommend the latest ZSNES, though ROMs are hard to come by (as they are technically illegal). *sigh* Revolution, where are you?

Anyway, River City Ransom for the NES was (and is) a hoot. I still like to go into that shop where they offer free smiles. :P

I'm looking forward of being able to play Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64 again. Boy did we waste many hours of our lives on these games. I prefer the latest Mario Kart races, but the battle games from the N64 are unmatched.

What else... Oh, FF7. The first game that actually wowed me with its cutscenes. Curses that I lost the CDs!

*sigh* So much nostalgy...

I really want to get ahold of FF8, When I was likee 7 or something I just loved to play it but when I got to the second CD (they were 4) It was gone :(

So I had to play the CD1 over and over until I got bored and eventually couldn't play the game.....

Right now i am playing a Zelda: OoT ROM.... Its really good, and I'm enjoying it...

I use to go to the flea market around here a lot and they actually had really well organized cartons of old games. I actually picked up some SNES games at the flea market because the originals of mine were "borrowed" like 8 years ago...

I miss you my darlings...

Erm... Anyway. XD

There was a Ninja Turtle game on NES that I played when I was pretty young. I have strangely vivid memories of the game but I have no idea what it is called. I've had several other Ninja turtle games, but none seem to be even remotely close to what I can remember. It's impossible to describe to people because there's just so many options if I describe it as "well, there were times they were swimming in the sewers, and other times they were above ground and there were members of the FOOT on the streets". Sounds like ever Ninja Turtle game. lol. So that would definitely be one I would want to pick up again.

The second one I can think of is a bit obscure. I actually would like to find this old arcade Star Wars game. Yes, we really did have an arcade machine in my house. It was the huge, bulky kind that you climb into and sit down in. It was some sort of first person tie fighter game. Had a crosshair on the screen and whatnot. So, it was pretty addictive and pretty effin' cool to my little brain even though it was just black and white. lol. So yes, I would like to find my Star Wars arcade machine. XD

That ninja Turtles game, when you were out on the streets was it top-down, but when you go into a sewer it becomes a side-scroller?

That sounds about right. It's been probably about 15 years since I've seen/played it. lol. From what I can remember though, that does sound accurate.

Hmm... it was probably released 89/90. I think it was actually the first Turtles game released. So yea, I was 4/5 when it came out. XD

Indeed, that was the first Turtles game for the NES (there were at least two more that I'm aware off, both these two being "pure" side-scrollers and actually a whole load of fun). The second level, where you go underwater to disarm bombs, is a HUGE pain. I recall living through it (though losing at least one turtle on the way) only once on the NES, and only two or three times on an emulator, where I used and abused the "save state" feature. :P

ETA: Oh, and Turtles in Time was neat. Smile

Really? I found that level really simple. :/

I always lost when I had to fight Shredder and the other dude, though. DX

Super Mario All-Stars for SNES. I had it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in my house now Sad

Also, there was this fighting game for the Nintendo 64 that a friend of mine let me borrow during my early elementary school years. I think it was called G.A.S.P. or something like that...

Duder, you can buy that at pretty much any gaming store for like twelve bucks.

Anywayyy, on topic, I downloaded a ROM of a crappy old DOS game called Jill of the Jungle this week. It was the first video game I ever played back in the day, and man, did I ever play it a lot. I don't even think I used my old computer for anything else. >_>
It looked so impressive and hi-tech back then, but now I realize how clunky everything was. Although seeing things differently is one of the reasons why it's cool to play old games again, AMIRITE?

A few weeks ago I bought an old Atari with 2 paddles and like 36 games at a yard sale. As soon as I got home I set it up and.... it didn't work. I think I need a new power cable or something.

Another game I forgot to add is "battle beast", a game for PC with amazing graphics and really crappy controls..... It was a fighting game, with animals that transformed into robots, they had to fight each other until one of them won and could fight the dr that was threatening them or something like that.... really good graphics, in fact I think that I may draw something about it right now....

@ Paru: I don't know, here in Costa Rica I can't find it..... When I go to US I will try to get it....
