This suggestion fits into the "wouldn't it be neat" category.

Just minutes ago I was browsing through my bookmarks -- specifically, through my temp section, and I noticed a bookmark labelled "Fanart Central". But its URL was not of the FAC front page, the URL was of a certain picture I had bookmarked a few days ago.

So I got to thinking, I notice that every page on FAC says only "Fanart Central" in the title bar. How about having it give out a more descriptive title for each page? For example:
"Fanart Central - Lasher's Profile"
"Fanart Central - Blade for Tai Kai"
Etc., have the title bar reflect the image/story/category/profile that the page contains.

In theory it wouldn't be that hard to code (of course, "in theory" and "in practice" are different things ^_^). It would also mean that when filing an FAC bookmark, the bookmark will be named according to what the URL actually contains (instead of the general "Fanart Central" name).

...Or you could change the bookmark names yourself. Razz

I know nothing about coding, so...yeah.

There are technicial reasons behind that, but I may get around to fixing that.

I'll add it to my todo list if I see it later at home.

For the record, this is the bookmark that led me to this suggestion:
Fanart Central
Hardly a descriptive title, eh? :P

I'm no idiot, I know all about renaming & such, but it would be nice if I didn't have to. Hence, the "wouldn't it be neat" category.

Here's another one for the "Wouldn't it be neat" category:

On the 10 Most Recent listing, it would be nice if underneath each entry it mentioned the category/rating of the drawings. It would also be nice if on the "Last 3 Days" listing it listed the category of each drawing. It's not always easy to tell the subject matter of a drawing just by its title, after all. Smile

I suspected something like that.

Hmm... here's another idea. You know how the "Add comment" link uses Javascript? What about a backup link for the add-comment page? Kinda like:
http://www.fanart-central.net/comments.php?op=new_window&pid=####

When I developed comments I made them support javascript or inline (comment form on the same page) but for design purposes I decided on the javascript popup.

You've obviously found the url so you can use that if you want. don't know how to fit in a non-javascript link nicely with the current layout.

Nah, the Javascript window works fine for me. I had merely been thinking along the lines of certain threads complaining about the comment window not popping up (for whatever reasons).

I feel that a picture/artist rating system would rock, you know, one that is visible to all. If we could see our rating it would be neato. As of right now, it's hard to see what is successful and what isn't. It doesn't nessisary have to be a voting sytem. It could be calculated by #of faves on a particular piece or artist visible to all. Ah, I know that's alot to ask...but it would be neat!

There's already a thread discussion numerical ratings, if that's what you're referring to. Good in theory, unfortunately it would be VERY easy to abuse, i.e. giving ratings based upon what the viewer likes/dislikes instead of how well the drawing turned out.

There's already many viewers who only leave comments of "COOL!", "u r gr8!", and "th1z r0x0rz!" (pardon me for not knowing 1337! Laughing ), a numerical equivalent wouldn't do any more justice than this.

Also, it causes a lot of problems between users, especially if you can see who voted what and if a lot of the users are young. "OMG Y'D U GIV ME A 3?!?!?!?!!! U SUKK MORE!"

More:

When looking at the thumbnail view of an artist's profile, it would be nice if it was broken up into pages by every 50/100 images or so.

It would also be nice that when viewing the list of an artist's picture, to be able to sort the list by category, rating, or title, instead of chronologically like they are now.

That's why I said that. It doesn't have to be an open voting system, just one that will tally up faves/visits to calculate the rating. Yes it can be abused as all things can, but it would make it easier to find good work on this site instead of wading through alot of not-so-good work. It was just a suggestion anyways, so it doesn't matter. Wink

Ah, another one just came to me: Thumbnails for the Last 3 Days page would also be a nice thing to have.

And tonight I thought up another idea for the back burner: In the Thumbnails view, it could help that for R/NC-17 images they show not only the rating (as with all pics) but also the content advisories... to state the reason(s) why it received the adult rating.

(later) PS: Dammit, here's another one. A confirmation message for when selecting polls (i.e., "Cast your vote for ______?") might be useful. I just cast a vote in the contest polls, but because of a mental glitch I hit the wrong button, and I can't take it back or change it. So, I'm a little steamed, because I had absolutely no intentions of voting for the option the forum says I chose.

I'm aware that the PHP scripts powering the forums must be pretty complex. I just needed to rant because I messed up in a contest poll, 'tis all.
