Background-heavy music, can be anything.

or words that I can't understand, like a bit of French oprah music and all that jazz.

Cuz' If I understand any word, that gets me sidetracked for few minutes.

When I'm animating I'll usually listen to something that makes me think of what I'm working on. Like When I did my Mok head-rotation and lip sync thing I listened to the Rock & Rule soundtrack, or when I did my Pink Panther walk cycle I listened to remixes of the Pink Panther theme.

Other than that I'll usually just turn on iTunes and let it play. Though the latest System of a Down album makes good homework music for me, for some reason...

It depends on what I'm drawing. I can't very well listen to rock or heavy metal if I want to draw something delicate. My music tastes run the gambit, from classical to opera, country, rock, j-pop, techno, trance, and anything else you can name. Right now, though, I'm stuck on trance music from 15 megs of fame.

It depends how I feel. I like hevay metal, but prefer Hip hop. Rap and hip-hop fall under the same catergory.

If I had to chose just one, I'd say alternative instrumentals.
I usually just turn iTunes to shuffle and let it play whatever it has, sporadically, I forward to the next song...

I teeter between industrial, metal (not so much the nu-metal that you've listed however), and soundtracks. Love soundtracks to bits.

:D *starts clapping and jumping around*

Haha, that's played at EVERY dance around here. [/off topic]

I found a lot of techno and trance from newgrounds last night. And I found some really soft, delicate japanese songs that I can't remember the name of. Both combined have really gotten me in the mood to draw a small romantic fairy-tale series.

I don't really listen to music while I'm drawing, because I tend to get distracted and I start dancing or singing along.

Usually game soundtracks, or in general something upbeat. Smile

I'd say either anime soundtracks or old Russian music (like 50s music). <-- It amuses me alot. =)

Cotton Eye Joe!!!! <3

I did not just admit that.

Anyway, I'll listen to whatever fits the mood of what I'm drawing. If it's something nostalgic, I'll put on trance or soundtracks (love soundtracks), or if I'm drawing a funny picture, then Weird Al Yankovic. Rock is my default music.

You forgot to add disco to the poll. Sad
I LIEK DISCO!
That's what I listen to when I'm drawing. That, and classical piano music. And sometimes video game soundtracks.
